1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: pretty light, no fingerprint magnet material outside

CPU: For other usual computing except high-def video playback, A6 seemed enough.

NOISE: Not much noise. Stay fairly quiet.

POWER CABLE: It is pretty light, close to netbook size. Somewhat make up for the below-par battery life.

Cons: CPU: A6-4455M is NOT capable of running 1080p videos easily. It often struggles and jitters here and there making the whole experience sub-par to i3 2nd generation and even to Core 2 Duo.

SCREEN: The screen is absolutely horrible. Blue-tinted. And colors are lacking in general. AND VGA port is not available to make it up for the lacking colors in general (although I was aware of this so it's a wash for me).

BIOS: Simply NOT possible to use Windows 7 because of dim screen bug. Found out that Lenovo has NO plan to fix the issue, making you stuck with Windows 8.

HEAT/NOISE: Not much noise, but the vent definitely gets hot.

BATTERY: just sucks.

2 out of 5 eggsDon't bother.

Pros: Very lightweight and portable. Pretty good keyboard, as with most Lenovos. Getting Linux on it was quite easy. Performance isn't too bad. It can actually handle Minecraft on low settings, but not much else. Day-to-day is fine.

Cons: The battery is terrible. In fact, I would use a more forceful word than terrible, but I don't want to come off as dramatic. Just honest. This has, without a single doubt in my mind, the shortest battery life of any consumer electronic device I have used in the past decade. If I can get an hour out of it, that's a good day. In fact, it takes longer to charge than it takes to discharge.

That hour battery life is on medium brightness, but this laptop's "medium brightness" is roughly equivalent to reading by candlelight at midnight in the 1700s. Every single time I use it, I think I must have left the brightness low from last time, only to turn it up and see it is maxed out already.

The trackpad is a little bit infuriating. When you rest a finger anywhere on the pad and click anywhere else, it will interpret that as a right-click. Annoying, to say the least. Otherwise, the trackpad is pretty good.

The construction leaves much to be desired. I highly doubt this could survive a fall from any height. Best to keep it in a backpack. The inside black plastic attracts all manner of fingerprints, and it always looks dirty.

Other Thoughts: I got this for much cheaper than its currently sold for here, and I still regret it. Just because something is sold for this cheap doesn't mean that its worth buying. A fact that many people simply don't understand.

Save up some cash and get something better. If you really need something this cheap, look into a Chromebook. If you really need more power than a Chromebook can offer, then spend more money. If you think you'll be exempt from the laws of economics and get by with a machine like this one, then prepare yourself for disappointment.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat, efficient machine

Pros: Has everything you need, nothing you don't. I use it for basic things such as Spotify, Pandora, Web browsing, etc. I like how the speakers are on the bottom. I can close the lid and still hear the music. Nice feature. Also, it's very light, which is nice. The keyboard is awesome, and it has keys to mute and change music volume, as well as screen brightness. The keys are comfortable to click as well. The trackpad is nice and big. I had some trouble with it at first. I sent it back to Newegg a couple weeks after I got it, and they did something to it, and I haven't had any problems with it since. I think there was something wrong with the driver. No biggie. I'm satisfied overall with this computer. I recommend it.

Cons: It is a bit plasticy. The lid is pretty flimsy.

Other Thoughts: I think you should go with this PC if you're looking for a simple computer to do simple tasks. Not sure how it would fare as a gaming PC, but who knows. I also really like Windows 8. I think it looks cool and makes your life easier.

2 out of 5 eggssigh...

Pros: ultra thin, crisp display, neat design, had windows 8...

Cons: Weirdest BIOS ever. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to server a UEFI PXE client... windows server must have some kind of weird support for this that nobody in the pxe/gpxe community reall knows about. Only legacy PXE works...

It's impossible to find recovery software for this thing if you blow away the recovery partition on the hard drive. I'm not even thinking about calling lenovo to deal with that, so I installed windows 8 evaluation on it and took it the pawn shop.

the touchpad is terrible. Between trying to click and point at the same time with it I often confuse it because the touchBad itself is the left and right click on the corners.

windows 8 broken, wifi problems, it seems really undercooked.

Other Thoughts: No extended battery? seriously?

5 out of 5 eggsPretty decent

Pros: My wife got one of these. Think of this as a "budget ultrabook." It is small and light. If you are looking for a traveling companion that won't weigh you down and doesn't cost a lot of money, this is a good choice. The speed is adequate for general-purpose and office stuff.

Cons: There ARE a few bad things, but most of these are simply because this is a very tiny, light machine. First is no optical drive. But if they added an optical drive, it would not be this size. The second is that the battery life is only around two hours, but this is a because, once again, such a small frame simply does not have room for a larger battery. It is also not easy to open up to install upgrades, but there is not really much to upgrade, so no big deal. The processor in this thing can support two channels of RAM, but there is only one memory slot, so some memory performance is left on the table. Once again, the fault of the small size. Finally, the touchpad is kind of annoying. In order to grab and drag, you cannot just tap on the pad, you have to push hard enough to activate the switch underneath. Kind of annoying, but nothing that an external mouse can't fix.

Other Thoughts: Another "minus" is that this comes with Windows 8, but does every other machine, so I can't knock them for that. Install "Classic Shell" and use the registry hack to disable the Win-8 swipe gestures and it will work just like Win-7.

The screen is only 1366x768, but that is true of almost every laptop under $1000.

Yes, there are some trade-offs associated with the size, but the good thing is the size!

5 out of 5 eggsLight Weight and Powerful

Pros: Light weight, good memory, great value for performance, sturdy. I've spilt coke, dropped it and had it scratched up at the airport yet still it works.

Cons: Not enough HD space

2 out of 5 eggsEhh

Pros: Cheap: purchased for ~$350

Very light weight: weighs just a bit more then my old dell mini 10v.

The keyboard works quite well and is easy to get used to.

has USB 3 port which are a nice feature.

seems to run fairly fast once you get every thing set up considering the specs.

Cons: Battery life: advertised as
" You can count on your IdeaPad S405 PC when you're away from a power source. Not only is the S405 engineered for long battery life"

This is very far off base. max of 4 hours if you are doing nothing but typing with WiFi off and screen turned very low.

material: the material is very cheap, it already has wear marks around corners, and where screen contacts the keyboard. After only a month this is shocking to see. The

Screen: the screen is very dim in windows 7, as in lowest- medium settings for regular computers. This is a know issue with windows 7 and Lenovo is hopefully working on a fix.

Other Thoughts: Personally I would recommend buying a better quality laptop then this. It works but feels poorly designed and cheap.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat (except win8)

Pros: Fast (once bloatware removed). Thin, light, decent battery life. PRICE!

Cons: No VGA out, windows8, no security/lock slot

Other Thoughts: The major issue here is windows8, but with a bit of tweaking (3rd party app to bring back the start menu), and some messing around in DiskPart to delete the recovery partitions, it's a great machine for the price.

A minor (but annoying) problem is the lack of a slot for a standard laptop security cable, so the machine cannot be left out on a desk.
