5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: The power you get in this laptop is fantastic for the price. It's everything you could need in a gaming laptop and for a good price.

The keyboard layout is great, the keys feel less 'cheap' than most laptops.

Cons: None that aren't stated on the specs (No CD drive, etc).

Other Thoughts: Really like using this laptop.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Performance by Compromise (Re-review)

Pros: 2 650M gpus, can play some high end games.
Slick looking display
Lit keyboard
Good aesthetics overall

Cons: Hard drive slower than molasses, start up time is absolutely abysmal. Windows 8 is a pain in the @ss.
6 gb ram can get maxed out pretty easily
screen glare can get pretty bad being a glossy display

Other Thoughts: It's a decent budget gaming laptop, but the hard drive can be a deal-breaker if you're not willing to deal with 2 + minute startup times and "(not responding) on every other application that gets opened, including control panel.

2 out of 5 eggsLike a knock-off sports car that drove great until the parts fell off

Pros: The computer was great when I got it. It's very attractive looking with the red back-lit keyboard. I was careful in selecting it, chose to go with this system for the 1920x1080 resolution and dual video cards. Ran most games fairly well, with the exception of Witcher 2 which would not run at all even on lowest settings+resolution for some reason.

Cons: One of the reasons I bought the system was so I could take it with me to Japan and have a portable gaming system. After I arrived in Japan I discovered the webcam mysteriously no longer worked, and the PC did not even recognize one was installed.

Later, the left speaker began acting up, either not working at all or only working part-way. It could be fixed temporarily by turning the volume all the way up, but it's still dodgy at best.

The worst issue, though, is the screen. Eventually the screen would stop turning on when I turned on the PC. It would randomly decide to work if you closed the lid and opened it again. Seemingly at random. As of a few days ago it has stopped coming on altogether. The backlight will come on rarely after doing the lid trick, but now it displays no image.

System works fine with external monitor, but it kind of defeats the purpose of having a laptop. In the end, I regret the purchase. I'm only writing this to let off steam, as I know the system's been discontinued.

5 out of 5 eggsExceptional Gaming Laptop

Pros: This is a phenomenal gaming machine! Thanks to SLI Technology, 60FPS can be achieved with ease! Sound is great, USB 3.0 works, and the machine stays surprisingly cool. Even when under computing/gaming pressure, it doesn't generate enough heat that would be considered dangerous. Keyboard lights up and feels great when typing; numeric keypad is super handy.

Cons: - Battery Life (duh, it's a gaming machine)
- Fingerprints (if it works, then I don't care about fingerprints)
- Trackpad (Who uses a track pad for gaming anymore?)
- 5400 RPM HDD (games load quick though)
- Windows 8 OEM (OS is okay; makes backing up a bit difficult)
- GPT and EUFI both make it challenging for swapping HDDs and making OS/recovery changes.

Other Thoughts: Despite the minor flaws, most gamers will play with the power plugged in, accompanied by a low-cost mouse, and a HDTV of some sort. Stay up to date, enable SLI at all times, and you'll be good to go!

- Always have USB Recovery media and a backup on hand.
- Upgrading HDDs? Macrium Reflect's Cloning feature is your best friend.
- Leave the partitions alone so you may recover Windows.
- When upgrading to 8.1 via Windows Store App, head to Lenovo for 8.1 drivers (required for BIOS and SLI configuration), and create fresh external recovery media.
- To enable "Always On USB", it must be enabled under the BIOS settings via F2.
- Disable the trackpad with "Fn+F6" so as to not accidentally click/move with your palm when gaming. Great if you use a mouse. Press again to re-enable.

3 out of 5 eggsGood Until It's Not

Pros: This machine was great when it was new. The screen was excellent, and the GPUs driving it performed well. It's also a sharp looking machine; clean enough to be used in a business environment, but just enough detail to make it look like it might be something more.

Cons: Just after the warranty expired, the display started acting up - flashes and bands of colors. Over the span of six months, it got progressively worse and eventually unusable. As I work in computer manufacturing, I ordered a replacement LVDS cable (from China, sadly) and a replacement LCD (from Seattle, fortunately). Neither change helped. The machine still properly drives an external monitor, so the fault must be in the LVDS connector on the graphics card.

4 out of 5 eggsGood exept for touchpad

Pros: Keypad, screen backlighting, sound and 3 usb ports. graphics capabilities.

Cons: Touchpad jumps around all over the place, so not recommended for any uses requiring precision. Updates by synaptics or lenovo did anything to improve it. Windows 8 is a definite 2nd choice, and unfortunately a "downgrade" to windows 7 was not available. Battery life is around an hour using office applications & max power savings

Other Thoughts: I upgraded the memory to the max 16GB and added a 500GB Samsung EVO PCI Express SSD which I use as my C drive (fits in vacant PCI Express slot - easy insertion). Previously I had tried using readyboost with a 64GB UHS Class 1 SD Card, but the performance increase was negligible, so with the SSD C drive the readyboost SD card became redundant

3 out of 5 eggsWorked fine for a year

Pros: Gaming

Cons: Hardware issues after 1 year

Other Thoughts: Just got off the phone with a lenovo tech and he said that it would cost more money than it's worth to fix and just get another computer!

Thanks JC

5 out of 5 eggsY500

Pros: Very capable gamer/multimedia laptop. I added a 120GB Intel 525 mSATA and was gonna add in some ADATA XPG Gaming Series 8GB 1.35v 1600MHz RAM AXDS1600GC4G9-2 but never got around to it being I traded it away.

The speakers put out the sound!

The GT 650m's had an ASIC of 84/86%. This is good = faster speeds, lower voltage = cooler and quieter.

Cons: Touchpad had tracking issues sometimes.

Other Thoughts: Note to adding RAM to laptops. Most laptops come with proprietary bios so there are no settings for DRAM, just note if you want to run 1600MHz + speeds be sure to get memory that is tested at stated speeds @ 1.35v. Or the bios will default to 1333MHz.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Surprising

Pros: Fast for a laptop, surprisingly fast. I got this in a trade about 2 months ago and I have not been disappointed with it. Way more of a machine than I would ever need as a laptop but would have been nice to have had when I was traveling all the time. Has excellent picture and stays pretty cool.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: You can either rock the dual video cards in SLI or use a add on DVD/Blu-ray drive. Not a real issue but would have been nice to have had a slim reader installed in the front. I will use my external reader if I ever need to. I have a SSD mSATA Intel 530 128GB as my boot now and a secondary 256GB SSD for storage. Needless to say this is anything but slow. The 1TB drive it came with was much to be desired, needless to say it was not in there long ;)

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: - Plays most games at it at very high settings with little issue (dual cooling bays help it from becoming anywhere near as hot as my old laptop).
- Performs very well as a work laptop, spent most of the time since I bought it programming (since I'm pursuing a computer science degree) and it has performed very well.

Cons: - The biggest con I've found is the speed of the hard drive. It doesn't take too much to max it out (not a huge problem when playing games, but when downloading quickly or compiling c++ the extra time waiting can become noticeable).
- The 'm' key lost one of the plastic pieces that keeps it connected which means it will occasionally fall off (after which I can still snap it back into place). I'm just hoping none of the other keys follow suit.
