3 out of 5 eggsYou get what you pay for

Pros: Got it on sale ($350ish) so at least I didn't pay full price for this P O S. Keyboard has a nice feel but does seem a bit cramped

Cons: Tends to freeze on Windows 8 login screen, and the bar that should only come up if you put the cursor in the lower right corner (with the search function, settings menu, etc.) comes up at random and stubbornly will not go away. But my biggest gripe is the touchpad. Granted, I have a mouse that i use most of the time with it, but the touchpad is very buggy. Clicks when it's not supposed to, randomly stops working at all for a few seconds at a time.

Other Thoughts: Save up a little more and get something with a better processor. This computer works, it's not a brick or anything, but the technical issues make it extremely frustrating at times to use it. Even as I'm writing this review it's giving me problems. You get what you pay for, so invest a little more and get a computer that won't frustrate at every turn

5 out of 5 eggsgreat value laptop

Pros: does not heat up - no matter how long you use it, it never heats up on your lap.

2 usb 3.0 slots.

HDMI out delivers great picture quality when hooked up to my led tv.

relatively light weight for 17 in laptop.

reliable so far after 2 months of use

Cons: none yet.

Other Thoughts: great buy for the price (bought my onsale for $350). it's a great basic laptop for internet searching and using microsoft office, etc. but may not be powerful enough for more advanced functions

1 out of 5 eggsEven worse than I thought

Pros: ?

Cons: I have poured through the Lenovo documentation and at least as far as this one is concerned it is quite worthless.
The F keys do nothing and I am unable to start a recovery/downgrade.
The dvd drive apparently has been removed as a bootable device by Lenovo.

Other Thoughts: I will never buy another Lenovo product again.
I am hoping to RMA this one as it is.

1 out of 5 eggsWon't boot from dvd

Pros: It turns on.

Cons: Will not boot from DVD. DVD drive is seen within BIOS, but apparently not a bootable device at F12.
Mouse is twitchy and somewhat erratic to my touch, but I plugged in a USB and worked fine.
Windows 8

Other Thoughts: The only way I'd consider keeping this is if I am able to downgrade to Windows 7 without paying for a license.

3 out of 5 eggsNot bad - seems to be a decent value

Pros: For a 17" laptop, this is not a bad little machine. Generally, it appears to be a good value for the money. Make sure you know what you are getting into before purchasing it, however. We'll know more as the unit ages and observe what problems show up.

Cons: WinDOZE 8 is just a HUGE negative. The "panels" just pop-up from nowhere, the touchpad is a bit flaky under Windows 8, and IMHO, it's just a bad computing experience in general. This machine has newer Lan and WiFi chipsets which can cause some issues with installing LInux distributions, but can be dealt with, as discussed below.

Other Thoughts: My wife wanted a machine that she could perch on the island in our kitchen to read her e-mail, surf the web, and create documents occasionally. Since I'm the primary Tech Support and didn't like how Windows 8 functioned including all of the gyrations and problems of moving my wife's e-mail and web history from her LInux machine to run under Windows 8, I decided to load OpenSUSE 12.3. Not only was the OS environment improved, but the hard disk partitioning was improved as well. This worked great except for the fact that both the LAN and the Wireless chipsets were non-functional initially. After researching this, I decided to load the 3.9 kernel which had improved driver support for these chipsets, and the wireless is working fine. I still need to do some work for the Lan port, but since my wife only uses wireless, it's not an issue at this point. Moving her previous operating environment to this machine was a piece of cake. She is extremely happy. If you can load Windows 7 or the new version of Windows 8.1 when it is available this could improve your computing experience if you prefer the Windows environment.

3 out of 5 eggsLenovo for The masses

Pros: -Large screen
-Large keyboard with num pad
-lighter than previous laptop

Cons: -trackpad lags
-trackpad does not respond
you have to lift your finger off the trackpad and wait for a
few seconds before trying to move the cursor.
-windows 8

Other Thoughts: I installed backtrack on it, took awhile to figure out how to boot from usb/cd.

over all I cant complain for the money, its decent and it should last a tad bit.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop

Pros: Very good computer for everyday use. Buy it, it is a steal for the price. Great battery, and speed. You will be completely satisfied if you only browse the web or type in microsoft word. Don't expect this PC to run under heavy workloads because it isn't designed to.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop! Great Deal!

Pros: My favorite thing is the SINGLE back panel that once removed reveals EVERYTHING! You can access the processor, ram, hdd, wifi card, and battery from one location! I have disassembled MANY laptops completely just to change the hdd. This laptop is majorly accessable! The screen is beautiful, the Pentium screams! Windows 8 is a horrible operating system interface wise, but you shouldn't dock it because of that. Put your own software on, or Start8 will fix all your windows 8 problems. The battery lasts about 4 hours while browsing the net, but it is fairly expensive to replace.

Cons: The price shot up from $349 to $399

Other Thoughts: I've purchased 3 of these as gifts and I threw in a cheap 256gb Scandisk SSD and each of the laptops boot in 11 seconds!!!

2 out of 5 eggsCharger doesn't work

Pros: Good looking, solid feeling laptop, good price point

Cons: Charger doesn't register when plugged in. Internet shows many issues with the charger on this model, should have done more research. Will be returning.
