4 out of 5 eggsNeeds SSD upgrade

Pros: Solid specs for the price, runs Windows 7 and Windows 8 for dual compatibility. Comes with the little red control stick mouse in the middle of the keypad which is a nice feature to put back in the new generation of Lenovo laptops.

Cons: Needs an SSD upgrade out of the box and in order to reinstall Windows 7 Professional you MUST order the recovery discs from Lenovo. You cannot create them and the product key is locked even if you get it from the registry on the original HDD. You cannot activate Windows 7 Pro with a retail copy disc and the product key in the registry.

Other Thoughts: For the price it's a great buy but throw a SSD in this thing and get rid of all the bloated Lenovo software and it really breathes new life into it.

5 out of 5 eggsLenovo Think Pad E531Excellent Laptop for the Money

Pros: I love this Lenovo Think Pad you can upgrade the memory Up to 16 GB Max DDR3. You can upgrade the HDD up to 1TB and install a SSD 500 GB Storage it has a Micro 24 GB NEFF Memory for windows 8.
The reason I got it was it came with window 7 Pro
and they gave you the disk for window 8 Pro.

Cons: You have to backup window 7 Pro to save it as a Restore disk.

Other Thoughts: Very happy with this purchase The selling Points were numeric keypad be able to upgrade the memory and the hard drive to SSD and has the Integrated Fingerprint Reader and Bluetooth

4 out of 5 eggsLenovo E531

Pros: I was not happy with the touchpad on the first unit I ordered. It seemed flimsy but I was living with it though I ended up returning it because it died after delivery to a client in San Diego. (I wonder if the Border Patrol scanned/zapped it at a checkpoint on I-8 as I was driving to SD on I-8.)

Cons: I got a second E531 a few days later (Win7 is important to me) and the 2nd touch pad was much better. Seemed the first one had a sizeable gap between the touch pad and the recess the touchpad sat in which seemed to be a bit sloppy. The second one seemed different with much tighter tolerances. The whole touch pad is still on springs or whatever, but the replacement unit seems much better.

Other Thoughts: I do not prefer the springy touchpad for myself but it can be gotten used to, or one could use a mouse.

All in All, Lenovo does a good job

1 out of 5 eggsI don't like the touch pad

Pros: Nice looking, nice quality.. Lenovo, HP and Dell offer Windows 7 through late 2014!
That's how I ended up with this computer.
but I am familiar with Lenovo quality and like it.

Cons: This laptop has a very strange touchpad. The whole touch pad moves when I right or left click.. Seems to be on springs or something. To me, it is hard to right click, etc.. Seems sloppy and often have to do it several times to get it right.. often it bumps the cursor attempting to right click

As elegant as Lenovo is, this touch pad seems sloppy to work with.. The latest Lenovo tech guy says all E531 Thinkpads use this touch pad.

Other Thoughts: I have a very attractive Lenovo Ideapad.. beautiful quality computer. And a desktop with an early Lenovo flat screen.
All very nice

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Laptop for the Money

Pros: Excellent value. Windows 7 Professional. Great keyboard. Good form factor (small bezel, edge-to-edge keyboard). Great for general business use and home entertainment / iTunes / Movie watching.

Cons: Touchpad buttons at the top are sometimes difficult to right-click, especially when using the pointing stick. Not a gaming powerhouse but very good all-round machine and is able to run mainstream games at lower graphics settings.

Other Thoughts: Very happy with this purchase, we purchased 2 for the family and are 100% satisfied - Windows 7 Professional was a major selling point. Touchpad takes some getting used to but I've come to expect this from all new-to-me laptops. Very disappointed in the reviewer that gave "1 egg" for what was likely an honest mistake in the factory software rollback, skewing the results and misinforming others.

1 out of 5 eggsWarning: WINDOWS 8

Pros: Intel i5 - Great Processor!

Cons: The description states this laptop comes with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. It DOES NOT! Windows 8 Pro is preinstalled on this computer.

Other Thoughts: Chat support didn't get the idea that doing an RMA Replacement was unhelpful when the replacement would come pre-installed with the current problem, and waiting 3 - 4 weeks to receive a refund and then re-order another laptop with the possibility of it coming with Windows 8 was out of line for my current need. Thank you Microsoft for allowing a downgrade!

4 out of 5 eggsBest choice for the money

Pros: Thinkpad quality

Cons: Trackpad

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace my Ideapad Y550 from years ago. Lenovo & Thinkpad are names I associate with quality, and while the Edge series doesn't rank with the upper quality brands, it's about the best I found in my research for my budget.

So, the keyboard is absolutely wonderful. Feels solid, responsive, comfortable. I'm glad Thinkpad hasn't done away with the trackpoint mouse. There are complaints about the fact that the function keys [F2 - F12] require use of the function button, but it's simple enough to hit Fn+Esc and let the function keys resume their standard role. The trackpad, however, lacks quite a bit. The idea is nice but was executed awfully; clicking down actually depresses the entire pad, which often results in the cursor shifting away from what you actually try to click on. If you're like me and are used to simply *tapping* lightly on the trackpad to click (Or setting it up with a mouse) there shouldn't be any problem. Single finger tap to click, two finger tap to double click. The webcam is pretty awful, but eh..

I replaced the hard drive with a larger one when I received it with Win7 Ultimate - no problems. The drivers from Lenovo's website (Which can be downloaded in bulk thankfully) all installed and have been working well. I did have an extra 4gb of DDR3 Ram which I installed, but after multiple issues, have left it at the stock 4gb that it came with... But the machine runs quite well. Handles some CPU heavy audio production software, video editing software, and games do well too. I'd happily recommend this laptop to anybody looking for a nice one within the price range.
