5 out of 5 eggsBest laptop for the price

Pros: I am a college student who always multitasks so having a laptop that can handle playing music or movies while using the internet and Microsoft Office or the Adobe programs is a must. I hook this up to a large monitor and run it as dual screens with lots of apps running and it handles it better than more expensive computers I've used. I also love that this laptop is lightweight and super portable! This laptop can also be used on the lap without ever getting hot. The ports including power supply, USBs, and HDMI are also well placed. The keyboard setup is very functional with an easy to turn on and off number pad (rare for a laptop this size) and the buttons are very responsive which is good for quick typing.

Cons: As one might guess from the good specs and low cost, it feels cheap. The outside casing is durable, but the keyboard and screen both feel cheap. The touchpad is sensitive enough when moving the cursor but it is sometimes unresponsive to clicks. The screen brightness occasionally flickers up and down when watching TV, but it is subtle. Also, this laptop comes with a LOT of Lenovo software which is all JUNK, but also easy to remove.

Other Thoughts: Best laptop for the price: runs like a beast but feels cheap. I would recommend this for anyone who wants a good portable laptop and wants to pay under $500.

1 out of 5 eggsU510 Touchpad DOES NOT WORK

Pros: Everything works well except the touchpad, after doing a clean install of windows 8 pro I managed to get the laptop in working conditions. Its powerful and has lots of space.

Cons: The touchpad does and will not work. The only way to fix this issue is to strip the laptop apart and tape electrical tape onto the bottom of the touchpad. It is a known issue with the U510 series and will never be fixed. You cannot return this product and good luck trying to sell it to someone else.

Other Thoughts: If you will always use a mouse go ahead and buy this otherwise avoid like the plague.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It looks nice, and works well for what it cost

Cons: Around the keys the silver pannel among the keyboard pops up and down it seems loose and sometimes when I am typing buttons wont register ill have to click or make sure that piece is flush. Normally when it occurs I see the piece is popped up.

Other Thoughts: I think I will file a customer support claim or contact the company personally about this issue once I have time, I have been very busy and just now able to write a review.

3 out of 5 eggsBad power brick - not great support experience

Pros: Decent specs for the price. Performs appropriately for the specs.

Cons: Terribly frustrating tech support

Other Thoughts: Out of the box, the laptop would not keep charged (first noticed as the screen dimming and the power button blinking even when plugged in). Call to Lenovo tech support was very frustrating - they kept asking me to do things that didn't make sense and give instructions that didn't make sense on Windows 8 to troubleshoot. Finally I got a supervisor that just asked what I thought the problem was, and I told him I would say 80% that it was the brick was faulty, so he shipped us another brick. (This turned out to be correct.)

Buying a refurb I was expecting some monkeying around, but a multi-hour call over a power brick is a bit much. (Although, Lenovo could have saved themselves a bunch by testing EVERYTHING in the box when it came back, not just the unit itself.)
