2 out of 5 eggskeeping it, but...............

Pros: nice price for the processor. It was cleaned up nicely on the outside, minus a good bit of dust in some of the connectors. No nicks dents or obvious scratches.
Battery pack in very good condition.
No bloat.

Cons: Worst mouse pad ever. Extremely small effective area.

Flimsy, not what I would call robust. Hope I never drop it.
I miss IBM.

!!!!WARNING, NOT ALL UNITS SHIPPED HAVE 64 BIT OS!!!!

Other Thoughts: Caveat emptor. Seems a refurb at this price, with this processor would have been shipped with a 64 bit OS. I needed a machine fairly quickly and kept what I got. In hindsight I should have tried to get what I thought I was paying for.

I find it a bit unethical (legal?) to ship 32 and 64 bit at the same price with no way of knowing what you are getting unit you receive it. Having asked what OS was being installed I was told by everyone who responded that it was 64 bit. Not true in my case. Again, to pay the same price for a 4 cylinder car as a 6 cylinder is not fair to the folks who got the 4 cylinder, and I question if it is strictly legal to not tell the consumer ahead of time that it is a crapshoot. I can find nothing that warned me of the OS gamble, but I'm sure the fine print covers that legally.

Just one guys humble opinion.

2 out of 5 eggsPossible copy right infringement

Pros: I got a very clean one. 5 STARS.

Cons: Windows 7 pro 64 was branded by Joy Systems. Possible copy right infringement. For that I give it 1 Star!

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for the Price

Pros: Without considering cost, I would have probably given this laptop 4 eggs. However, it is a perfect laptop if you need one that is good and cheap, and the price makes up for the cons for the 5th egg. I cannot believe I found this for such a price!

Cons: Warning comes up on start-up that the voltage of the power cable is low. I installed my own version of Windows 7 and none of the drivers were automatically installed (had to use another laptop to download the wireless driver). This is not this particular laptop's fault, but it was still annoying.

Other Thoughts: I love Newegg!

2 out of 5 eggsKind of a mixed bag

Pros: The T410 is a very nice laptop for someone who wants durability and usability in a PC. This refurbished machine, however, has been a mixed bag.

Some pros:
-Came with a 9 cell battery
-Came with a fingerprint reader
-Outside of machine is very clean and only slight cosmetic blemishes

Cons: I wouldn't have been able to get this laptop working as I received it if I weren't a Lenovo technician. No joke. The keyboard had the dreaded "poiurewq" problem with the p key, along with several other dead keys due to the ribbon cable shorting on the internal chassis. So basically it came with an unusable keyboard. This was fixed with electrical tape as per the instructions on the Lenovo support forums. It is mainly because of this that I'm forced to give such a low rating- a working keyboard is kind of important.

The hard drive that came with mine is a 160gb Seagate Momentus 5400.3 ST9160821AS with considerable hours on it and a liberal coating of dust and grime. It is clearly not the original, nor has it been refurbished. I've since replaced it.

The windows version is 7 pro, though mine came with 32bit only, so 4gb of ram is the max for this machine. The product description doesn't state 32 or 64, so I guess this isn't newegg's fault. Still a con in my mind.

Other Thoughts: I have a feeling that the quality of these refurbished machines vary, as mine is otherwise clean and hardly used. It's mostly the components that appear touched by the refurbisher that I have issues with (keyboard and hard drive mainly).

No webcam, though my machine did come with a fingerprint reader.

1280x800 resolution with nvidia NVS3100M graphics

My machine was refurbished by Joy Systems (as seen in the system properties page)

4 out of 5 eggsPerfect for my purpose

Pros: WINDOWS 7, Lenovo quality, compact, fast for what I needed it for and Cheap! This laptop was purchased for the purpose of using it around production and R&D labs so a smaller physical size was desirable and a large hard drive was not necessary. The big plus was it is Windows 7!

Cons: Small screen, small hard drive.

4 out of 5 eggsVery Good, solid buy

Pros: Solid inexpensive laptop. no issues. Runs quiet and everything. Very nice. Had an issue, it was resolved in about a half hour with the vendor. They are also very kind.

Cons: Came with Windows loaded in a wonky way.

2 out of 5 eggsNot bad, but came with issue

Pros: Good computer for the price. runs smooth and had no issues connecting to anything. Display is crisp. As a refurb, it shows no signs of damage except maybe the stickers.

Cons: Arrived with a Windows Activation code that is not valid. I have contacted the seller and will update this if they resolve the issue. This is something I shouldn't have to think about and consider it a serious negative.

Other Thoughts: Everything else is good. the packaging it came in was very sturdy, so there should be no worries as to condition when it arrives, unless there is some major accident.

4 out of 5 eggsNice Inexpensive Laptop

Pros: A very nice 14” laptop PC for the discounted price paid. No complaints here. I have shopped around and it’s fairly hard to find a dual-core Intel i5 laptop in the price range I paid from NewEgg. Most laptops in this price category are either older Intel Core-II models, or they feature i3 processors. NewEgg’s buyers did a nice job on locating this product to sell to their customers.

These appear to be corporate returns. The first laptop I received looked brand spanking new. The second laptop had considerably more wear and tear on it. There were no serious blemishes, or visible damage on either laptop. See my other thoughts below:

Both laptops seem to work just fine so far.

These ThinkPad T410's have nice bright, crisp looking LED back-lit screens. The 7,200 RPM hard drives boot-up Windows 7 Pro in under 25 seconds. You can use both the WIFI interface and the Gb Ethernet NIC at the same time, with dual IP addresses, for faster network throughput. This is a nice feature for rapid hard drive back-ups. Many laptop NIC cards are limited to only using one network interface at a time. My first backup was completed in less than 6 minutes and 30 seconds.

The keyboards have a nice fairly long-stroke feel to them for a laptop. They are not mushy, or springy feeling like some cheaper keyboards.

These Lenovo laptops also have a nice LED night light, located where the camera would normally be, that does a nice job of lighting the keyboard for use in dim board rooms.

Cons: Ordering a refurbished product is always the luck of the draw. There is a certain element of buyer beware risk involved. The first laptop I received was like new. The second unit you could tell had a fair amount of wear on it. No problems so far with either laptop. The second laptop was hard to tell it had been ever been refurbished though. It arrived with food caked to the inside surface, the screen was smudged and dirty. This was easily removed with spray cleaner. I also had to blow-out the heat sink fan unit, as it was also choked with dust. That should have been the first thing that the refurbisher did. Not much of refurbishment job here. On the other hand the first refurbisher did a great job. I could tell by the included instructions that the two laptops came from two different refurbishing companies.

The second unit arrived with only four days left to activate it in. I was able to re-arm Win7 using a registry hack to gain an additional 30 days, so I could have sometime to evaluate it, before activating it.

Note: These laptops do not include a built-in web cam.

Other Thoughts: I ended up ordering two of these refurbished laptops, because I was so impressed by the first one. The first one was for my son who is in college and the second one is a gift for myself. The first unit came with a 2.66 GHz i5 CPU, versus the advertised 2.40 GHz. No complaints here. The second laptop came with a 320 GB hard drive versus the 180 GB HDD in the first one. The second laptop also had an extra long-life battery installed. You could tell, because it sticks out the back-end further, whereas the first laptop's battery was flush. I looked at the hard drive SMART data for both HDD’s and the 180 GB had only been turned-on 169 times in its short work life. The second laptop HDD had more than 1240 starts on its hard disk.

The first laptop booted-up with a fresh factory installation on it. It relies on a service partition in the event you need to reload the factory configuration. The 2nd laptop was configured differently; it included two copies of Windows 7 Pro for refurbished computers on DVD, with no factory reserve partition. One DVD contains the Win7 64-bit version; the other has the 32-bit Windows version. Both laptops came with Win7 Pro 64-bit preloaded. Frankly, if given the choice I would prefer the separate restore DVD's, versus a hard drive recovery partition. This way if the HDD ever fails you can install a new hard drive and restore from the Windows recovery DVD's. This added unexpected bonus helped to made-up for the heavy use on the second laptop.

So far I think I have done okay on my Christmas purchases. My son is rough on laptops, so I could not see spending the money to buy him a brand new one again. If NewEgg offers these Lenovo T-410 laptops with another heavy discount again, I would strongly recommend them.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: Still well built.

Cons: See my previous review.

Other Thoughts: I see that the pictures have been updated. They used to have a generic Thinkpad photo. You can disregard my complaint about the fingerprint scanner in the photo now.
