5 out of 5 eggsAffordable, Capable, Versatile, and Upgradable!

Pros: It’s a nice looking laptop. The body feels well-crafted and sturdy. The Dolby speakers are way above average for a laptop of this price range. To be honest, it has the best sound of any laptop I’ve ever used. It’s a touchscreen, this feature is handier than expected when using Windows 8.1. It has an abundance of ports including an optical drive, HDMI port, Ethernet, two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 and 2 in 1 card reader. The AccuType Keyboard is surprisingly comfortable to use. So far this Lenovo laptop has been fast (during most tasks) and it rarely gets stuck. Most Office programs, with the exception of Publisher, run very fast. I’ve even been able to play the touch enabled version of Civilization V without any issues. The bloatware is minimal and some of the Lenovo software is actually helpful. Another awesome feature of this laptop is that it can be easily upgraded to fit your needs, for example the RAM can go up to 16GB and the hard drive is easily accessible in case you want to switch to SSD. If you’re looking for an affordable, upgradable, capable and versatile laptop, the IdeaPad S510p is perfect for you.

Cons: 4GB of RAM is not enough for this laptop. If you’re using a software like Adobe Premier Elements it will get stuck making just a minute long video. So even for lite video editing you’re going to need a RAM upgrade. The laptop also seems to randomly turn completely off after closing, if it’s been disconnected from the power source for a while. It’s not a huge deal, but it can be annoying. The screen is really not as bright as I thought it would be, but it’s adequate. The touchpad is a bit of a pain, because you’ll end up clicking on things inadvertently. Maybe it’s a personal preference, but I dislike the multitouch touchpad and key combo (pick one!). Battery life is not as advertised. If I’m doing any gaming, design or video editing it lasts about two hours. If I stick to web surfing and writing, I can stretch it to 3 but definitely not 5 hours.

Other Thoughts: I’m very happy with my purchase. When I bought it I was in a budget and couldn’t afford anything above $500. Fortunately, this computer works up to par (in most tasks) with the 09’ Macbook Pro I was sharing with my wife. I plan on upgrading to an SSD and the RAM, which I’m sure will make this computer as fast as any laptop selling for $1,000 or more.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the Price

Pros: The system performs pretty good for what it costs. Nice new 4th Gen processor. The system feels sturdy and not cheap. All the keys felt right when typing and had a good response. It's nice to be able to touch the monitor instead of using mouse.

Cons: Only 4GB memory, power plug looks like a USB connector feels cheap but it works. Default system wants you to use 'battery save' it will keep you laptop battery between 40-50% it's configurable but the systems manage the battery by default.

Other Thoughts: The system is wonderful for the price.... I purchased a SSD and the system is WAY fast and for less than $600 the notebook with a SSD performs much faster than a $1000 notebook.

5 out of 5 eggsFirst windows 8 computer

Pros: Great computer for an i3 with touch screen, so far.

Cons: Windows 8, and it did not have 8.1 on it, I downloaded it and installed but still hate it.

Other Thoughts: Thanks to David H. when asking questions about loading windows 7 onto it. He suggested searching for classic shell which I did version 4.04 and now it has a windows 7 interface. My wife can now actually use her computer now, this option should have been included with 8 if Microsoft had any common sense.
