5 out of 5 eggsIgnore the Bad Reviews

Pros: Fast, Great Graphics, Great Display, Nice Price, Backlit Keyboard, Great Customer Service

Cons: Not so good battery life but this is expected with a high performance laptop. Driver support isn't the greatest for other OSes

Other Thoughts: After the Bios fix this laptop is running flawless.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible

Pros: Spec are probably good but I wouldn't know.

Cons: Sent a defective product.

Other Thoughts: Worked fine out of the box, everything was in order and i downloaded chrome because IE is terrible. I don't mess with it for about an hour and I come back to it, log in, and I'm greeted with a black screen, I can open Task Manager and run programs (like Chrome) from there but the home screen and tile screen never show when I exit. Tried looking online on my desktop for answers, nothing worked. I tried turning it off and letting it charge for a while, thinking the battery may just be low, also didn't work. And then when I try to log in again the cursor wasn't moving or clicking anything when I tried. Also a few of the buttons started to come loose and a few were already completely off, and these buttons aren't able to be put back on, looks like they're glued.

1 out of 5 eggsNot the best laptop

Pros: It has a nice display
The 1 TB hard drive
The graphics card isn't to bad

Cons: It has Windows 8 and isn't a touchscreen
The trackpad is bad
Got sent a defective product
Flimsy keyboard

Other Thoughts: This laptop crushed my dreams. I was really excited when i first ordered it and thought, "Wow 1 TB hard drive, dedicated graphics card, a great amount of RAM, awesome price" but then I was crushed when they sent me a defective product and I was frustrated when I called Lenovo and some rude man didn't care about what I was trying to say and just hung up on me.

So my over all review about this product is, that it's awful and I would never recommend it to anyone ever.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat bang for the buck

Pros: -Price point is incredible for the included hardware
-Very light for a 17 inch laptop
-Surprisingly long battery life for its size
-Backlit keyboard
-LED backlit screen is very bright and easily usable in direct sunlight

Cons: -no physical media included with the unit (drivers disc, windows disc, etc...) makes replacing the hard disk difficult (take this into consideration if you want to swap the drive for a SSD like me)
-touchpad left and right buttons are integrated as part of the touchpad - easy to accidentally move the mouse particularly when attempting to right-click

Other Thoughts: -screen hinges feel a bit loose though the screen does remain in place so long as the unit isn't moved
-for comfortable use of the unit, I would definitely recommend an external mouse - attempting to click the mechanical buttons in the touchpad often results in unintended mouse movement, and the tap to click function of the pad is very sensitive and often generates a click when I didn't intend one

I bought this unit to use for my upcoming college courses because it was the most cost effective option I could find that satisfied my college's system requirements.

3 out of 5 eggsRoom for improvement

Pros: The process specs look good, ram is 8GB which is what you need minimal for the OS. Video card looks to be okay, and 2GB of video ram should be fine, after all it's not a gaming rig. 1920 x 1080 display is exactly what you want, the viewing angle would be due to the type of LCD. Not a big deal on a laptop, gives more privacy from nosey people in public places.

Cons: Slow HD, WTH 5400, should be 7500 with 16GB SSD, and a 10/100Mbps LAN? Why not 10/100/1000Mbps and no 802.11AC on the WLAN. Battery is only 4-cell lithium ion? The standard is usually 6-cell, and usually upgrade to a 9-cell. I can't see how this could last 5 hours like they're claiming.

Other Thoughts: Personally I don't care for the appearance. Lenovo laptops are usually pretty attractive, I don't know what they were thinking. I really don't understand why they give you a 2.4GHz Haskell CPU surrounded by lackluster components like the HD, battery, LAN, WLAN, and no SSD. I would replace that HD with a SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD512BW 2.5" 512GB SATA III MLS. That will speed things up considerably. The issue with 3rd party batteries not being compatible with the charger that someone mentioned is strange to say the least. I own a Lenovo ThinkPad T61, so I know that the OEM batteries can be very expensive, but who wants 2 hours of battery life. I think there's a lot of laptop from Lenovo that will be better than this for $900 and up that will at least give you a better look, battery, and Network hardware. Hopefully whatever you choose to buy will last you many years, so I wouldn't settle on something that will disappoint. Nothing worse than waiting and staring at a hourglass while a program loads, or having to stay plugged in all the time.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop marred by greedy crippleware

Pros: Excellent specs for this price range. Some of the built in "bloatware" is actually worth keeping, especially Lenovo Reach, which essentially offers remote desktop service from your smartphone for free. Lenovo even has an android app that lets you control your laptop via bluetooth on your smartphone. I haven't tried it yet, but the youtube videos look pretty cool.

The video card setup is exactly as advertised, which I appreciate.

The performance bottleneck on this machine is the hard drive. I'm considering purchasing a 1TB 7600RPM hard drive to compensate, but for now I am pleased with the performance.

Cons: Lenovo laptops will not charge 3rd party batteries. Their batteries are overpriced and they underperform.

Even worse, the battery that shipped with my laptop did not register as an "authorized" battery, and thus it won't charge.

Lenovo has already agreed to send me a new battery, but this problem would never have occurred if they hadn't pre-installed incompetent crippleware in a greedy attempt to lock their customers into buying their inferior and overpriced batteries.

The work-around is to install 3rd party BIOS software, a process that I just don't want to deal with.

Other Thoughts: If you only need a 3 to 4 hour battery life and you don't mind buying Lenovo brand batteries, this is a good buy.

If you need an extended battery life, you should purchase another brand.

5 out of 5 eggsGood buy

Pros: Fast Processor, lots of storage and a good video card

Cons: Useless bloatware, poor battery life, somewhat faulty bios

Other Thoughts: When unbinding the function keys in the bios the f4 remains locked. But a fix is on the way in a bios update. Other than that the laptop is nice and powerful. It plays games very well and the sound is pretty awesome for what it is. The display is crisp and colorful and the touch pad works good. As for the bloatware I called Lenovo support and had a set of recovery disks sent that were shipped over night free of charge. Then I did a clean install of Windows 8.1. I'm confident if I have any problems within the warranty period they will be taken care of promptly. So far I am pleased with the purchase and support. No buyers remorse here. Despite the f key problem I still rate it five stars because it will be fixed.

5 out of 5 eggsA great computer for a great price!

Pros: You already know the pros, I7 Haswell Processor, 8 GB of memory, 17.3 inch screen with full 1080p resolution, back lit keyboard, built in GT 745M, and pretty decent battery life.

Cons: Keyboard is a little flimsy, mine was popped out on the right side when it arrived, not a big deal, pushed it in, it clicked into place. Some people have mentioned poor viewing angles, it's a laptop, yes it has poor viewing angles, luckily it,s a laptop and you can move the screen easily.

Other Thoughts: When you get it update your drivers, and you'll be very pleased with this machine. I was looking for something I could take to LAN parties without having to lug my gaming rig around, or breaking the bank.. This computer plays newer games at lower settings which exactly what I expected. Gets a little hot when gaming obviously, buy a laptop cooler. The battery life is very surprising actually, if you're gaming with it plug it in, if you need to take it to school, you can run this thing for hours without needing to charge it. Buy this laptop. Windows 8.1 isn't bad at all, had some compatibility issues with League of Legends but windows 8.1 resolved the problem for me with it's own trouble shooter (first time a windows troubleshooter has helped).

4 out of 5 eggsBetter than before

Pros: Fast
Great specs for price
Holds a lot of space even though much of it was taken by the restore partition (about 100 GB)
Is quiet

Cons: Poor battery life
Warms up after a certain amount of power is used (which decreases the life on the machine)
A bit heavy so laying down with it is a bit painful

Other Thoughts: Well I wrote a review on the same machine before it just had Windows 8 not 8.1. And that machine had a lot of flaws, but this one here I am satisfied with. Gamecube/PS2 emulation with high quality enhancements works pretty well on here. I'm sure there are quite a few modern PC games that will run to but I haven't tested that out yet. I got to pay nearly the same amount I did on the last machine because they ran out of stock as soon as mine had reached them, so customer service was mostly pretty nice.

I recommend this laptop. I just dont like the keyboard because it seems too spaced out.

5 out of 5 eggsSome Hurdles, mostly minor, Excellent choice.

Pros: The design is great.

This has a removable plate, three screws no issues. Pushes off as easy as an old school cell phone trying to remove a battery. Easy easy easy!

You have direct access to memory, fans, chips, hard drives as soon as you remove it.

This computer has a "novo button" which is used to access things like boot menus and bios. You can use it while hibernating or when powered off.

The bios is painless and it is very easy to get windows 7 on this machine.

You just use the novo button, switch to legacy boot system, and make sure you switch to legacy boot support, and just choose your method.

Cons: The only con I really have, is that Lenovo, has a pretty shoddy support on their site for the drivers for things.

Their download page looks like it has all the things you need, but when you download and install it, it doesn't exactly work.

I had issue with the touch pad driver, audio driver, and the worst, the wireless driver.

I will post how I solved it here, because once the solution was found, it was easy.

These are the drivers for the touchpad and FN keys.

These work with windows 7.

For the audio, I let windows 7 find those online, worked perfect!

For the Wireless, this one I had to open the bottom, see the model number because NONE of the drivers worked. I ended up going directly to INTEL.

It just fails and doesn't help. Mine had the intel wireless-n 7260. You might not. You might be able to use the default drivers on the Lenovo site.

If you too have this model, the direct link is here:

I used: Wireless_16.10.0_s64.exe on that page.

Other Thoughts: Is actually a CON, but really, so minor it is a nitpick. I don't like FN keys that you turn off and on, I prefer the shift like function where you just hold to use it and release to turn it off.

Roomy enough for a 2nd hard drive bay but doesn't have one, but I knew this going in.

Screen has a pretty poor viewing angle but most laptops do.
