4 out of 5 eggsExcellent! Except for the charger port...

Pros: -Fast
-sleek design
-bright screen
-NVIDIA Optimus technology
- Backlit keyboard

Cons: -Windows pre-installed (replaced mine w/ Linux)
-Charge port is very sensitive, and unforgiving if you bump it too hard- I'm on my second repair and I'm VERY careful

Other Thoughts: I would definitely recommend this laptop, but I suggest you don't charge it while you use it lest it get bumped and then not charge. I had to send it back to Lenovo under their warranty, and Newegg is going to be doing it *again* under their extended warranty. It seems like poor design to have such a sensitive piece so easily disruptable. Other than that I LOVE this laptop! Its a beast. :)

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Already listed in other reviews--processor, ram, display, etc are all great.

Cons: Intel N 7260

It doesn't work well with Windows 8.1. I admit, my fault for not paying attention one day when doing some updates, but once Windows updated the card driver, my internet connection drops off daily. I've rolled back to the original driver I had, and used nearly every update since, all to no avail. I'm currently on the original one, which is the most stable, but still unsatisfactory. I'm forced to disconnect and reconnect. I work from home and also game frequently. I've lost money and matches thanks to this worthless card.

Other Thoughts: It's hit or miss whether or not you get this particular card--if you don't, you're golden. If you do, prepare for headaches galore.

Lenovo support is worthless too. After explaining my problem, they tried to get me to roll back my drivers, which I'd done. The next step is to do a back up and restore to defaults. When that doesn't work, the only thing they will do is let you send it in for maintenance but they make it clear that you will never ever ever get a different card--they will only refurbish your current one or replace with a different one of the same model.

It was fun making the poor guy on the other end of the line squirm when I asked about compensation for lost wages during the week I'd wait for them to fix my card. I win? I guess.

I'm just going to void my warranty which expires in a coupe months anyway. I'd rather put in a card that I know works rather than suffer through the pain of customer service--which of course is exactly what Lenovo wants. They don't give a flip as long as they don't lose any money.

3 out of 5 eggsSolid performance, good LCD, mushy keyboard, silly battery.

Pros: Great LCD (1920x1080). Backlit keyboard is nice to look at, very Apple-product-ish. Blu-ray drive for good price. Comes with playback software as well. Great sound as well (for laptop's build-in speakers)

Between the 1TB HDD with SSD cache and the i7 processor - the performance is excellent. No complaints there.

Cons: I have two specific issues with this purchase. Firstly, the keyboard looks nice but is not great to type on. I wanted this to be my everyday dev box, and after coding half an hour on don't want to do it anymore just to avoid the keyboard so that's a major FAIL for me. Just so I don't waste the good i7 processor I might box it and turn it into a desktop. It feels like there is a soft gel of some sort underneath the keyboard, and every time you make a keystroke you get this sensation of poking on jell-o. It may be the back-lighting component under the keys that are giving the mushy feel.

Secondly, there are battery related issues need to be sorted out and Lenovo is of no help. On first boot it warmed me that I had an unauthorized battery(!!!) and it refused to charge a counterfeit came in the box brand new! It also continues to warn me that my AC adapter, also came in the box, had insufficient juice and the machine and that performance would be compromised. I sorta see what Lenovo is doing, because in every system dialog like this there is a "BUY" link to get you to store to buy more stuff.

Other Thoughts: If not for the type-feel issue and shady business practice, this would otherwise be an awesome product. Especially for users who do not need to type often, this could be a great buy, assuming they get the charging issue sorted out. So far I have a brand new lappy that rejects the battery it came with.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Everything listed came perfectly, but I've read reviews that have a less-than-stellar delivery.

Cons: Low battery life of about 6 hours, if you don't need it for 6 hours, you should be fine. Be wary if you're using it for heavy use such as gaming, compiling code, et cetera as it will drain your battery even quicker. Feels very heavy. Keyboard is VERY iffy, my second function key broke until I fixed it.

Other Thoughts: Lenovo customer support is terrible, it's a pretty big risk to buy this because even though it's worth the money, if it comes damaged, you might be ruined by their customer support since Newegg doesn't package the item, they put it in another package.

5 out of 5 eggsIgnore the Bad Reviews

Pros: Fast, Great Graphics, Great Display, Nice Price, Backlit Keyboard, Great Customer Service

Cons: Not so good battery life but this is expected with a high performance laptop. Driver support isn't the greatest for other OSes

Other Thoughts: After the Bios fix this laptop is running flawless.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible

Pros: Spec are probably good but I wouldn't know.

Cons: Sent a defective product.

Other Thoughts: Worked fine out of the box, everything was in order and i downloaded chrome because IE is terrible. I don't mess with it for about an hour and I come back to it, log in, and I'm greeted with a black screen, I can open Task Manager and run programs (like Chrome) from there but the home screen and tile screen never show when I exit. Tried looking online on my desktop for answers, nothing worked. I tried turning it off and letting it charge for a while, thinking the battery may just be low, also didn't work. And then when I try to log in again the cursor wasn't moving or clicking anything when I tried. Also a few of the buttons started to come loose and a few were already completely off, and these buttons aren't able to be put back on, looks like they're glued.

1 out of 5 eggsNot the best laptop

Pros: It has a nice display
The 1 TB hard drive
The graphics card isn't to bad

Cons: It has Windows 8 and isn't a touchscreen
The trackpad is bad
Got sent a defective product
Flimsy keyboard

Other Thoughts: This laptop crushed my dreams. I was really excited when i first ordered it and thought, "Wow 1 TB hard drive, dedicated graphics card, a great amount of RAM, awesome price" but then I was crushed when they sent me a defective product and I was frustrated when I called Lenovo and some rude man didn't care about what I was trying to say and just hung up on me.

So my over all review about this product is, that it's awful and I would never recommend it to anyone ever.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat bang for the buck

Pros: -Price point is incredible for the included hardware
-Very light for a 17 inch laptop
-Surprisingly long battery life for its size
-Backlit keyboard
-LED backlit screen is very bright and easily usable in direct sunlight

Cons: -no physical media included with the unit (drivers disc, windows disc, etc...) makes replacing the hard disk difficult (take this into consideration if you want to swap the drive for a SSD like me)
-touchpad left and right buttons are integrated as part of the touchpad - easy to accidentally move the mouse particularly when attempting to right-click

Other Thoughts: -screen hinges feel a bit loose though the screen does remain in place so long as the unit isn't moved
-for comfortable use of the unit, I would definitely recommend an external mouse - attempting to click the mechanical buttons in the touchpad often results in unintended mouse movement, and the tap to click function of the pad is very sensitive and often generates a click when I didn't intend one

I bought this unit to use for my upcoming college courses because it was the most cost effective option I could find that satisfied my college's system requirements.

3 out of 5 eggsRoom for improvement

Pros: The process specs look good, ram is 8GB which is what you need minimal for the OS. Video card looks to be okay, and 2GB of video ram should be fine, after all it's not a gaming rig. 1920 x 1080 display is exactly what you want, the viewing angle would be due to the type of LCD. Not a big deal on a laptop, gives more privacy from nosey people in public places.

Cons: Slow HD, WTH 5400, should be 7500 with 16GB SSD, and a 10/100Mbps LAN? Why not 10/100/1000Mbps and no 802.11AC on the WLAN. Battery is only 4-cell lithium ion? The standard is usually 6-cell, and usually upgrade to a 9-cell. I can't see how this could last 5 hours like they're claiming.

Other Thoughts: Personally I don't care for the appearance. Lenovo laptops are usually pretty attractive, I don't know what they were thinking. I really don't understand why they give you a 2.4GHz Haskell CPU surrounded by lackluster components like the HD, battery, LAN, WLAN, and no SSD. I would replace that HD with a SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD512BW 2.5" 512GB SATA III MLS. That will speed things up considerably. The issue with 3rd party batteries not being compatible with the charger that someone mentioned is strange to say the least. I own a Lenovo ThinkPad T61, so I know that the OEM batteries can be very expensive, but who wants 2 hours of battery life. I think there's a lot of laptop from Lenovo that will be better than this for $900 and up that will at least give you a better look, battery, and Network hardware. Hopefully whatever you choose to buy will last you many years, so I wouldn't settle on something that will disappoint. Nothing worse than waiting and staring at a hourglass while a program loads, or having to stay plugged in all the time.
