2 out of 5 eggsHorrible product

Pros: Quick
Good display

Cons: Windows 8

Other Thoughts: The SSD started to not read all the time after 8 months.
The display just started to display lines in the screen that come and go. The laptop hasn't moved in months and nothing was placed on the screen. So I know its not cracked. I would honestly choose a different product if I had to do this over again.

4 out of 5 eggsMostly good

Pros: It's the best bang for your buck. At least it was when I got it.
The HD screen is nice for gaming and work.
I can play quite a few games like Crysis 2, Portal 2, Call of Duty Black Ops 2, Borderlands 2 on close to max graphics without any problems.
If your going to play competitively you want to tone things down a bit for better mouse point control.

Cons: The downsides are the same as everyone elses.
The SSD has a awful Firmware version that leaves people like me stuck with the following problems.

Symptoms include random crashes followed by the SSD hard drive not being recognized by the system.
If your system goes to sleep it can also cause the system to not recognize the SSD drive.
If the system crashes and you perform an unexpected reboot the SSD also won't be recognized by the system.

While it's easy to repair it's a pain and if Im in the field by myself I'm toast. The problem that I'm running into is the SSD in my system is not the same SSD as the ones other peoples reviews so finding firmware updates went from being easy to..very hard.

My Micron SSD is a "RealSSD C400 2.5 128GB Sata"
Firmware Rev: 010G
Part Number: MTFDDAK128MAM-1J1

Other Thoughts: Im posting this so that other people like me who run into this problem can find solutions much faster as most of the info happens to be laid out nicely here in the reviews I've been reading. I had to add to them though with my experience as it only differs slightly.

Currently I'm still trying to get a firmware update thats compatible with my Firmware Rev: 010G.
So far, my first experience with SSD drives are a love hate relationship. 8 seconds from a cold start till I'm at my desktop is nice but not at the cost of poor reliability.
Hopefully Acer can get me the correct firmware update.

4 out of 5 eggsgood laptop good ssd

Pros: great rig it does everything i could want and more.

Cons: quality of the ssd

and usb port location would have been better closer to the monitor.

Other Thoughts: Stealing this from another poster. but this worked for me as well. i did the exact same method. tried the sata to usb with no luck.

this 100% worked for me.

I found a fix for the SSD "No Bootable Device" without sending it in to ACER. I got a Rosewill SATA to USB Cable Converter. I tried running it through USB, but that didn't work (the hard drive showed up in Device Manager, but was not listed under "Computer").

So then I plugged the hard drive directly into my desktop. When I booted, Windows 7 saw a corrupt disk and ran disk repair on it. I could then access my files through my desktop computer. So I shut my computer down and put the SSD back into my laptop and the laptop booted just fine. In fact, I'm typing this review on my laptop.

I would still recommend the firmware update mentioned by another reviewer below.

3 out of 5 eggsNo bootable device.

Pros: Fast rig. Certainly not the fastest thing out there, but it's only $1200 so you get what you pay for.

Cons: The SSD. I've had to send the laptop off to Acer three times. No joke, THREE times! You'll notice that Acer doesn't list the SDD brand under the specifications. Intel 320 Series SSDSA2CW120G3 is the SSD you're looking for. This SSD has an very bad issue data loss issue. If power is unexpectedly interrupted to the SSD, it's storage space will drop from 120gb to like 8mb. The SSD will also rename itself BAD_CTX 00000159. How do you fix this issue once the damage has been done? I'm not sure... However Intel released a firmware update for the SSD late last year. Acer has apparently been shipping these rigs out without the firmware update to correct this issue. http://communities.intel.com/thread/24205 <firmware update found there. If you plan on buying this laptop, or are getting it back from Acer after a repair, I URGE you to apply this update.

3 out of 5 eggsSSD Dead after 3 months

Pros: While it worked, it's been great. Incredibly fast boot time. Great gameplay on modern games. Excellent connectivity to the internet. Great battery life. Great screen resolution and quality.

Cons: Windows 8 is stored on a solid state drive (SSD instead of a traditional hard drive (HDD). If your SSD dies, then you lose Windows. The laptop worked great until I opened today, and I noticed it had "0% Battery". It immediately died, and then I tried plugging it in and booting it back up. All that will come up now is "No bootable device found." So it may be that the SSD and the battery are dead. I'm not sure yet.

I bought the warranty, so I'm about to send this in. Even still, from reading the other reviews, this seems like a common problem with these laptops.

Other Thoughts: For what it's worth, I bought two of these laptops at the same time, one for me and one for my wife. My wife's laptop is still going just fine.

2 out of 5 eggsHarddrive has failed twice

Pros: Beautiful graphics, whisper quiet, runs incredibly fast

Cons: This is the second time my motherboard has failed and I am sending it back for repairs

Other Thoughts: I bought my laptop on 2/26. I had to send it in to Acer because my battery stopped actually charging - no problem I pretended it was a desktop. I went to carefully change the battery. I turned my computer off properly, opened it up, took out the battery to check, put in a new one... and there was no bootable device. Okay. So I send it back to Acer.

That was about a month and a half ago.

Today I am writing because today, again, my battery has stopped charging. I didn't take the battery pack out. Instead, I just treated it like a desktop. Eventually my dog stepped on the cord, the computer died and when I tried turning on the power again... no bootable device. Is this a common computer thing because I've literally only have had this happen with this one laptop.

3 out of 5 eggs1 out of 2

Pros: Fast, HUGE

Cons: DOA SSD Drive, HUGE

Other Thoughts: We ordered 2 of these machines. about a month apart. First one is working nice and is quite fast.
2nd on came DOA, the SSD drive is dead.

Newegg is sending me a return label for shipping so that is good. I will have to wait another week for the replacement so that is bad.

3 out of 5 eggsSo far... 5/10?

Pros: Fast, quiet, fair price, huge screen.

Cons: Internal speakers aren't anything special. I'm also not too fond of the touch pad but I use a wireless mouse so it's not an issue for me.

The first three weeks with the laptop have been great. However I go to use it today and it wont boot. The SSD failed a month into it. It has a year long warranty on it though so I'm sending it in to Acer tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get it back soon.

Other Thoughts: I have owned other Acer's and haven't had any major issues with them. This is the first time I've had one fail this quickly (or ever). If the SSD would have worked properly I would have given it a full five stars but that wasn't the case here. I would still recommend the laptop to anyone needing a mid range gaming laptop though.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible service

Pros: It's cheap

Cons: it sucks. The specs seem good until you look at them in depth, then you realize it's a very average gaming laptop...you can get much better for only 200 more.

Other Thoughts: I got this without really paying attention to the specs, as soon as I noticed my mistake, I try to call newegg to try to get a refund or exchange. They tell me first that there is NO REFUND WHEN IT SAYS THERE IS ONE THE PAGE. Next, they tell me I can't get the refund because I opened the box...the brown ups one. The idiot finally went to talk to someone, and I was then informed that if I wanted to use that money towards anything else I'm going to have to wait for about 3 to 4 weeks. I NEED IT NOW. I could barely understand the guy, and I had to ask him to repeat himself numerous times. I've ordered from newegg for years and have never had to deal with this before. The fact that I now have to wait about 3 to 4 weeks really screws me up. If you're going to have people answer the phone, make sure they know what they're talking about. I almost lost 1200 dollars because the guy was a moron and almost didn't even let me RETURN it. This is a huge blemish on Newegg's record for me, and I might just start dealing with A-zon instead, they don't give the run around and are helpful.
