3 out of 5 eggsDecent laptop for the money

Pros: Large 17" screen, cost, USB 3, an extra HDD cavity for additional 1TB HD

Cons: The screen does not have the same viewing angle of the Macbook Pro that just died on me. This laptop has an HD video card in it but struggles to play HD sometimes. I bought another 4gig memory stick but I don't mind that, you can never have enough

Other Thoughts: Overall I believe I got a nice laptop for a good price. It is not an apple, but it will suffice

3 out of 5 eggsOverall, decent machine for the money

Pros: Big Screen, cost, another empty HDD cavity which is capable of receiving a 1TB drive. That will be my next purchase.

Cons: Display looks a little washed out. It does not have the same viewing angle capability of my previous Mac book pro (which I bought 7 years ago R.I.P). Video card is not that great, videos from Netflix stutter. I need to pause give it a break for a few seconds then resume playback. added 4 more gigs of ram to give it 8gigs total (dont mind that)

Other Thoughts: For the money I paid (limited only by my lovely beautiful wife) I think, overall, I got a good deal on a computer!

5 out of 5 eggsAcer V3-731

Pros: Beautiful little laptop, its lightweight, the keyboard and track pad are nice and comfy, the performance if great for what I need and a 17inch laptop with this performance at such a low price you cant go wrong!

Cons: None really, just that when I reinstalled windows 7 to get rid of all the bloatware, I had to get all the drivers from acer.

4 out of 5 eggsWin7 for cheap and 2 USB3's

Pros: Windows 7, Pentium dual core, 2 USB3 + 2 USB 2 ports, & Bluetooth, for not much $.

I'm watching this one hoping for a sale. I've had two Acer laptops and they had excellent build quality. Hope this one continues that tradition.

I've got a Pentium B960 in a smaller laptop. At 2.2GHz & 2MB L3 cache it's near equal to a Core i3. It has good performance for the cost. To me it seems to have better performance than the low end AMD CPUs.

I've been trying Win8 and I've tried to tweak it to be more usable. Classic Shell, Start8, StartIsBack, none of them can really turn Win8 into an enjoyable experience. I've also been reading about the changes coming in Win8.1. I don't think Win8 or 8.1 are ever gonna be something I want to work with. The thing that fries my grits the most is the Secure Boot UEFI BIOS that makes it near impossible to dual boot. Very happy to find an affordable laptop with Win7.

Cons: With the 17in screen and 7lb weight this thing is a beast. That's the downside for getting something that's pretty much a desktop replacement kind of laptop. If it gets to be too much I'll keep my big screen and get a laptop bag with wheels.
