3 out of 5 eggsGood laptop, but lacking for gaming purposes

Pros: It's actually quite an alright laptop for the price.

* It has a massive amount of hard drive space. I have about a hundred Steam games. Granted, not all of them are installed, but games nowadays run into the gigabytes, and I never even have to think about space.

* 12GB of memory. That's a lot for a mid-range option, and it shows when you're the type of person who leaves your computer on for a month or more without restarting or turning it off. (Don't jump to conclusions - I *do* hibernate it so I'm not gobbling up power!)

* It turns on smoothly and quickly. For all people whine about Windows 8, this laptop turns on much quicker than Windows 7 from all 3 states: off, sleep, and hibernation.

* It's a rather large laptop, which is *good* for a gamer. I hate small keyboards.

* It is not loud at all. If you hear a whirring, then you're probably using the laptop to such an extent that such a sound doesn't matter. If you're worried about the weight then you aren't looking at the right class of laptops - but that being said, it's not that heavy either.

Cons: For the purposes of gaming, this laptop is actually disappointing for the price.

* The maximum resolution is 1920x1080. There have been 1920x1280 monitors commonly available for around ten years, and the graphics card can't support them.

* The Intel HD Graphics 4600 graphics adapter is just not that great. 3-5 year old games sometimes can't get 30 FPS.

* It comes with bloatware. I don't hold it against this particular laptop/brand, though, because lots of similar laptops from many other brands will do the same.

* Power vs cost - This isn't a bad laptop by any means. But - if you're not into power specs, then you should probably be buying a cheaper laptop. If you ARE into power specs, then I would argue that these results for the cost just aren't worth it. I bought this laptop a half year ago, so maybe by the time you're reading this review it's now worth it. But I feel like once you are in the $1K+ range, you should be looking for fairly powerful options, and this laptop provides mid-line results. This laptop sacrifices graphical power for memory and hard drive space, so if that's what you're looking for, ignore this bullet point.

Other Thoughts: In the end, this isn't a bad laptop. It's just not amazing.

So, would I recommend it? Yes, if the price is right.

5 out of 5 eggsLove it!!!

Pros: This is an AMAZING laptop for the price! I got it for $1,099 and at that price you can't ask for more... It starts up in seconds and plays Skyrim and Bioshock Infinite in Ultra settings and looks awesome! Windows 8 will take some getting used to that's the only downside to this laptop other than that I LOVE IT!

Cons: Windows 8 not as great as Windows 7...

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for an affordable gaming laptop you've found it! Even got my boss jealous and he wants to pick one up! LoL

4 out of 5 eggsOnly one problem

Pros: This is a wonderful, powerful machine for the money.

Cons: My only complaint is that the keyboard is not backlit, and that is mostly my fault for not checking the specs more carefully before I hit the "buy" button.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat value multimedia laptop!

Pros: - 2GB GTX 760M (Equivalent to a desktop GTX 650 according to GPU score on PassMark)
- Intel Haswell 4th gen quad core
- Nice display
- GORGEOUS design
- Plays Blu-ray discs

Cons: - This one is a preference: Chicklet keys. They're fine for typing, and just okay for gaming when your desktop has mechanical.
- (For some) Windows 8
- Can get a little hot, but if you're a righty, the vent is on the left side

Other Thoughts: This is a great valued gaming laptop. I did some recordings of some gameplay on Far Cry 3, Battlefield 4 (BETA) and Tera Rising on YouTube (erzascralet48; not a plug for views, just going to talk numbers, but see for yourself if you'd like) and it played all games at 1080p with Medium to High settings very well with most filters lower or off. Battlefield 4 BETA with the newest BETA drivers form Nvidia were able to get about 38-42 FPS on HIGH preset 1080p-- Any frame drops were server issues or drivers that WILL mature on and after launch.

Be aware when you receive it, though! On the box, it will have a specifications sticker, and on the display, if it says "ComfyView" (like my purchase from AMZ did), it WILL be a matte, Anti-glare screen! Both AMZ and Newegg detail it as "CineCrystal" (Glossy), and that's what I expected from it, but I didn't receive that. My mistake for going AMZ over Newegg that time. It isn't that much of a pain, though, so I may deal with it.

Looking for a great laptop for watching physical discs (Blu-ray and DVD) or some portable gaming at 1080p on Medium to High settings? This is THE best priced one, and HANDS DOWN, the sleekest looking laptop you will find out there! If you're more serious on gaming, there is a Toshiba that has a GTX 770M, or an MSI one, too, but I wanted something nice looking, and this looks beautiful!

5 out of 5 eggsExceeds expectations

Pros: Intel i7 2.2 - 12GB DDR3 memory - 1TB hard drive - 17.3" Full HD (1920 x 1080) - NVIDIA GeForce GT 760M w/ 2GB GDDR5 VRAM - Blu-ray Disc/DVD±RW DL - webcam - Wi-Fi - Bluetooth - HDMI - USB 3.0

Cons: Difficult to roll back to Windows 7, second HDD caddy not included.

Other Thoughts: I think that all Win 8 configured laptops will have this same problem, but rolling back to Win 7 is not as easy as I though it would be. Difficult, but certainly not impossible. After about 2 hours of searching I finally have all the hardware working properly. In particular, USB3 drivers were difficult to find.

Otherwise, I cannot say enough good things about this laptop. Specs speak for themselves, but what the specs don't tell you is that this is an attractive laptop that performs beautifully and is very quiet. For the money, there were only two other laptop that come close - ASUS and Gigabyte each have a model in this price range but the Acer comes out on top for value for the money.

Other than rolling back to Win 7, I added a 128GB SSD and this monster really screams. Boot time is about <10 sec. to desktop. Video is bright and crisp as well.

Overall, I don't think you can go wrong with this unit for under $1250. I highly recommend the V3!
