3 out of 5 eggsDecent

Pros: Has allowed me to play a few higher end games on at least medium.
Touch screen is neat . (You will not use it as much as you think you will).
Built in mic has allowed me to put off buying a headset.
Ultra thin design allows for easy travel.

Cons: Severe overheating problems. Running dual video cards can cause this computer to heat to dangerous levels. The highest I have seen the temperature go was a little over 200F degrees. You will definitely need a method for keeping it cool while playing higher-end games.
Dual graphics is more annoying than one might think. The graphics drivers often become messed up. I've had to completely reinstall my graphics drivers on more than one occasion.

Other Thoughts: I've had loads of fun with this laptop, even though it has given me more cause to worry than any other computer I've ever owned. Mostly due to the overheating.

2 out of 5 eggsGood but didn't last

Pros: Amazing laptop and got everything that I paid for. I really like the dual graphics and was pretty good running mid level games.

Cons: The pros only lasted for about 3 months, I've started running into a lot of problems such as overheating, blue screens, unexpected shut downs, and speed stutters (sometimes the entire computer lags).

Other Thoughts: Good laptop overall, but started to run into problems.

5 out of 5 eggsBetter than I expected

Pros: Sturdy laptop with nice champagne/light silver metallic case that is resistant to finger print smudges unlike the piano finish variety of laptops.
Nice keyboard, backlit, touchpad isn't bad though it can be tedious to use (see cons).
As for the the performance:
On battery if you are only surfing the internet and checking your email the battery last roughly 4 or 5 hours. Average use would make it last roughly 4 hours.

You can do light gaming on this laptop as previously mentioned, on High Diablo 3 runs at 45-50fps, Final Fantasy XIV on High(laptop) runs for 30-40fps avg 20-25fps in capital cities.

I got this laptop mainly for programming in Unity3D, 3D modeling in Blender, and image editing in photoshop... all of which work flawlessly.

The sound is amazing!

Cons: -Preinstalled Junk: Apparently preinstalled McAfee was preventing windows update from being able to update properly, I removed it by using a tool provided by McAfee (just google it) and windows update ran smoothly from there. Recommend you also update Graphics Drivers from AMD to 13.12 as the preinstalled ones are kind of buggy.

-Windows 8: I really recommend upgrading to Windows 8.1 as it has many improvements.

-Trackpad: can't scroll up and down so easily since if you swipe it from the right-most edge inward it pulls up the Windows 8 sidebar. To scroll up and down i suggest swiping from top right corner down or from bottom right corner swipe upward.

-Non-Removable battery: battery can't be removed, or maybe it can if i unscrew it, but after searching the internet I can not find if whether acers sells spare batteries or not.

Other Thoughts: Laptop that can do decent gaming.
Windows 8 not really acer's fault.
Trackpad is ok after you get used to it.
It has a touchscreen but i really don't want to smudge my screen with my greasy fingers.
Bloatware is to be expected as with all laptops.

1 out of 5 eggs2 new computers, 2 defective returns

Pros: Thin, lightweight, looks nice

Cons: Acer quality assurance department needs to be replaced

Other Thoughts: Ordered one of these and right out of the box, it would only work while plugged it and stated it wasn't charging. Sent that one back and reordered. Second one had an extremely loud fan on one side and was, again, deemed defective by Acer. Returning this one and ordering an HP Envy.

Pros: For the price, it's a great laptop

Cons: Never recieved my Battlfield 4 voucher

Other Thoughts: I never expect to get the special offers from newegg ... they're perpetually bad at delivering their incentives.

4 out of 5 eggsHDDs are DEAD

Pros: Have NOT bought this Acer laptop yet. As someone suggested that IF you replace the HDD and the RAM for $90 each you might have a killer 'Touchscreen' laptop. $180 for WHAT? NOT A GOOD IDEA!!

BETTER to spend that money on a GOOD SSD.

Many make a big deal about a 7200 RPM HDD vs. the 5400 RPM HDD. There is VERY LITTLE difference.
I was in Europe last summer and had a brand new HDD 'die' on me in my ASUS laptop. I had the original hard drive with me, a 340 GB 7200 RPM. So I bought a Lacie brand external HDD 1 TB and was thinking about taking the Lacie HDD out and installing it into my laptop but it was only 5400 RPM. So I tested them both (the old original 340 GB 7200 RPMs and the new Lacie 1 TB 5400 RPMs) over and over because I too had heard that they the 5400's are much slower!

The results were ALMOST the same, like TWENTY times each I timed the boot and running Photoshop and some games. The results were almost IDENTICAL? The 5400 RPM drive was less than 5% slower, in TIMEs. I did not benchmark them. REAL WORLD timing is much better, benchmarks are often misleading!! I do not have the times available right now but I can guarantee that the differences ARE MINIMAL, irregardless of what the benchmarks might say.

Cons: I too am surprised that this laptop is not faster. I was looking at the Acer laptops and read some GOOD reviews on them, while in Europe (4200 to $400 more in Europe)! They all seemed to be very good, especially for the price and "Touch Screen" as well!!

However, IF I got one I would install an SSD [FOR SURE], probably Samsung 840 Pro 256 GB or even a 512 GB, I currently own TWO (one each).

Other Thoughts: I installed a Samsung EVO 500 GB in my 4 year old ASUS laptop when I returned to the states, and it is literally like a new computer. It is so much faster in EVERY WAY! Boot times 20-25 seconds, even games seem like I am on a new and better laptop??

Then three weeks ago I built another 'Tower' PC, with a MSi Z87-GD65 Gaming Motherboard, Intel Haswell 4770K, 16 GB of G.Skill Trident X 2400 MHz. For the drives I installed a Seagate 1 TB for data and games, and a Samsung 840 Pro 256 GB for the boot drive (large enough for my favorite programs and games).

It is ONE SWEET machine... My first boot time was 'Windows' 3 seconds flat! Now TOTAL boot time is 20-23 seconds with MANY THINGS installed. That is "Windows" 10 seconds and desktop another 10 to 13 seconds. The more you install the longer the boot times.

OTHER things to do: besides an SSD, and maxing out the RAM, then clean out all JUNKware, that they always install on new PCs, optimize the system and HDD, and then seriously consider installing Windows 7, it can still work as a Touch Screen.

I have read numerous articles and reviews of people replacing Win 8 with Win 7 and the differences are REMARKABLE. Win 8 is ONLY faster in the boot time, but it does it by FAKING and CHEATING! It loads the 'Modern interface' or desktop before it has actually finished booting, making it APPEAR to be FASTER.

I would NOT USE Win 8 if they paid me, no joke. I have worked on numerous Window 8 systems and they are terrible.

I have owned EVERY version of Windows (and DOS 1 thru 6) that Microsoft has ever made. I beta tested Win 3.0 and 95. Windows 7 is by far the BEST OS that Microsoft has EVER CREATED!

In 8.1 they only improved the interface A LITTLE!

3 out of 5 eggsDecent

Pros: Touchscreen, dual video cards, windows 8 quick boot, battery life for a non-ultrabook

Cons: one problem with this laptop is that it has an ultrabook esq processor with a very slow (5400) HDD. the laptop just feels clunky and sluggish very often (compared to my lenovo y510p). I have also experienced problems with it just randomly restarting. There are definately issues with this computer but it isnt terrible. I would not however recommend this computer to anyone, i would say to go and spend just a little more money and try for either an ultrabook with an ssd or just a better version.

Other Thoughts: I really like AMD, and really pull for them to compete with intel which is a large portion of why i got this computer, but unfortunately i feel like they dropped the ball a bit with this processor. I think it just falls off too much from the 5750m.

I also had some problems at first getting the dedicated videocard to show up as in use. I had to do some major updates to drivers and bios work to be able to actually see both "gpu" being used.

4 out of 5 eggsBought Two of These 15 December 2013

Pros: Very high value for the money, light weight, large amount of RAM, high hard drive capacity, solid & attractive design and build quality, very good quality screen

Cons: Primary hard drive sacrifices speed in favor of large storage capacity; relatively brief (but acceptable) battery life.

In fact, if they'd have opted for a faster 7200rpm hard drive at even half the storage capacity, this would have been a 5/5 review. Even so, still 4/5.

Other Thoughts: Extremely good value in a world where the term "good deal" is overused. This laptop is actually just a solid, well made, high-value-for-the-money "good deal".

Both of my kids have their own now, and they like them.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat for Creative Office Working

Pros: Very Light, Thin, Touchscreen, Back lit keys, Runs windows 8 very well, handles adobe Dreamweaver and Photoshop with ease.

Cons: Not Fast enough for even midstream gaming.

Other Thoughts: Honestly I bought this computer as a replacement for my desk top. I wasn't looking for ground breaking numbers or anything but I felt like it would've been a slight bet better. It struggles to run games 3 or 4 years old at 20 fps with low quality. I honestly don't know why either, maybe I just over estimated the graphics card. I asked new egg if they'd let me exchange for a more expensive laptop but were going to charge me a pretty hefty restocking fee. Oh well.

Anyways, it's still a good computer for going back and forth to work. My idea was to get rid of my office and home desk top and have something decent to take back and forth. Works fine for general use and it looks nice.
