1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The laptop, when working, was fast, nice looking, and very affordable.

Cons: After a few months of working perfectly fine, the laptop stopped charging. After trying different chargers, and batteries, I realized that it was the charging port itself. The warranty Gateway provided for me sent me to "clever" robot programs that try to seem like people and customer service "professionals" in India who don't do anything. In the end, they refused to fix my product.
I also purchased a Newegg recommended "Net Service" accident protection warranty along with my laptop, so I figured I could send it them instead.
Wrong, don't purchase that warranty either. Net Service refuses to acknowledge my case, and I haven't been able to contact anybody regarding my warranty.

Other Thoughts: I'll never buy a Gateway again.

3 out of 5 eggsNice Laptop

Pros: I am happy with this laptop, and especially happy about the large size of the screen. It runs fast, quiet and cool.

Cons: Somewhat narrow viewing angle, and so-so battery life (which can be expected from the massive size of the screen.) It took about 20 minutes to uninstall all of the Gateway factory bloatware.

Other Thoughts: I am giving this product three stars because although I ordered a new laptop, I am pretty sure what I received was a refurb unit. The foil seal on the box was broken, the bezel for the screen was loose and out of place (I had to forcibly move it and snap it into position. It is still a little loose, but I doubt it will be an issue), and the top edge has 3/4" scuff that took off the red coating. Basically nothing that is worth sending it back, just sort of aggravating. I'll let NewEgg slide on this one, because I have always been happy with their products and service.

3 out of 5 eggsSlightly Irritated

Pros: Excellent display and battery life is good. I haven't tried anything too demanding on it yet, but it seems to run well. I prefer Windows 7, so I was happy to find a laptop with that OS and excellent value for the price.

Cons: Now for why I'm irritated. It's been years since I bought a system from a manufacturer. I typically build my own desktops and this is the first laptop I have purchased for myself. In the past when I purchased a complete system it was standard for the system to come with a disc copy of the OS, but apparently this is no longer the case. There is a "recovery partition" on the laptop, but it includes all Gateway's setup instead of a plain OS. I have heard that companies will provide you with an OS disc if you ask, but let me tell you Gateway is apparently not on of those companies. I went round and round with online support about this. All they wanted to talk about was the recovery partition and recovery discs, not original OS discs. The support person also stated to me that the OS was a "full" version, which typically means full retail, and then stated it was a "full OEM" version, which I don't believe is "a thing."

The only other issue so far is that the speakers are hard to hear unless you go into the sound settings and turn all the equalizer sliders all the way up.

BV: Hi, my name is Balasubramanian V. How may I help you?

Adam: Hi, the laptop I purchased did not come with an operating system disc. I want a windows 7 disc to reinstall the OS if I choose.

BV: Not to worry, Adam. I am here to help you in this regard.

BV: I understand that you require the Windows 7 recovery discs to reinstall the operating system. Am I correct?

Adam: I do not want recovery discs. I want the full operating system disc to install the Windows 7 Home Premium which came installed on my laptop.

BV: Please note that, Gateway does not send the recovery discs along with the unit. The unit comes with a hidden partition that enables you to burn your own set of recovery media/installation media. If you have not created a set of recovery media, you can purchase them from us.

Adam: If I install another hard drive I will need a Windows 7 Home Premium disc to install the OS. I should not have to purchase an OS disc for the operating system I bought with this

BV: I will help you with the instructions to create your own set of recovery discs?

Adam: Yes that is not this issue. If I want to do a complete reinstall of the operating system on a new hard drive I will need a full Windows 7 installation disc.

BV: Yes, Adam. You may create the recovery discs on your own. I will help you with the instructions to create the recovery discs.

Adam: So you are sayng that a recovery disc is identical to a operating system disc from Microsoft?

BV: No, Adam. Adam, using the hidden recovery partition you may create the recovery discs on your own.

Adam: When I purchased this laptop a licensed copy of Windows 7 Home Premium was installed. That software license is mine. I do not wish to reinstall using your settings, I wish to be able to choose my own settings and hard drive allocation. I want a copy of the standard installation disc fr

Other Thoughts: BV: Adam, please note that, using the hidden recovery partition, you may create the recovery discs. This recovery discs will have the same operating system, drivers and preinstalled applications that came with the system.

Adam: I do not want your pre-installed applications. I want a plain unmodified version of the operating system from Microsoft.

BV: If you require a Retail version of Windows 7 disc, then you may have to purchase is from Microsoft store.

Adam: I purchased a licensed version of the software from your company. You should provide me the installation disc for the software I bought from you. That is what Microsoft will tell me if I contact them.

BV: Please note that, we have an option to provide only the Windows 7 recovery discs and not a retail version of Windows 7 discs.

Adam: I guess I should just go back to Newegg and in a review indicate that you would not provide me with the OS disc. A retail copy of the OS disc was always included with every other
computer system I bought from a manufacturer. Are you telling me that the OS that came pre-installed is not a full retail version?

BV: The operating system came with the laptop is a full version.
BV: Please note that, Gateway does not provide a retail version of Windows 7 operating system along wit the laptop.

Adam: Then I should receive a copy of the full retail version of the software that I now own as part of the purchase of the system.

BV: Please note that, since the laptop comes with a hidden partition to create the recovery discs, Gateway doesn't send the recovery discs along with the unit.

Adam: Yes, we've established that. But the operating system license on my laptop in now mine, not Gateway's. I should be provided with an unmodified copy of the software license I now

BV: The product key on he laptop is for the operating system that came with the laptop and its not for a retail version of operating system.
BV: So, if you install a different operating system, then the system will prompt for the product key?

Adam: You just told me the OS is a full version which should be transferable to another machine should I choose. Are you now saying that it is not a full version and is an OEM version only
licensed for the laptop it was installed on?

BV: Adam, the operating system installed is an Full OEM version, it cant be installed on a different computers. It can only be used in your Gateway laptop.

Adam: A full version typically means retail copy which the license can be transferred to another system. There is not such thing as a "full" OEM version. Regardless, I should still be
provided with an unmodified copy of the OEM licensed software.

BV: In that case, this is not a full version operating system. Please note that, we do not have an option to provide a full retail version of operating system.

Adam: A OEM and a retail installation disc are identical. Your license key is what determines the version and the condition

5 out of 5 eggsSolid with the right price

Pros: Good price, good design, nice to have a choice with a bit of color as opposed to black and grey. Very fast boot up. Windows 7

Cons: pad is sensitive and when typing seems to get bumped easily, we ordered a wireless mouse and it works well.

Other Thoughts: Great laptop for home, nice big screen. Not ideal for a student as it is large and a bit on the heavy side for lugging around a campus.

5 out of 5 eggsBetter than others

Pros: Fast startup, not a lot of preinstalled bloatware, comes with a free trial of Norton Antivirus, big screen, reasonably sized keys, number pad, volume keys above number pad, can turn off screen brightness without putting laptop to sleep, can run anything I've thrown at it (although I haven't done any high-intensity stuff like newer PC games), CD's and DVD's don't need any special setup to play.

The tl;dr: Has nearly everything I need in a laptop.

Cons: No lights for caps lock, etc (Just shows up temporarily on the screen), touchpad is in the right place to accidentally hit while typing (although think that's pretty much universal)

Other Thoughts: I'm about to head off to college, so we'll see how this does there, but as of now, I think it's perfect.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Laptop at this Price Point

Pros: Beautiful display, Runs very cool/quiet, Unique coloring (some don't like it, I do), I actually enjoy the spacing between the keys on the keyboard. Great WLAN. Swap out the hard drive for an SSD and this baby flies.

Cons: Trackpad (like many people have mentioned) is terrible. I bought this USB mouse for $13 and it has been a revelation:

Even if you don't like that one, invest in a USB or wireless mouse and avoid the trackpad all together.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent, Solid, DEPENDABLE laptop

Pros: I purposely looked for another Gateway laptop since I have owned multiple ones over the years and this one is EXCELLENT like all the rest. You can't beat the price for 6GB of RAM and a nice i3 processor... and best... Windows 7 !!! It's very well built, sturdy, doesn't feel "Cheap". Screen is bright and VERY clear! Boot times and speed overall is superb, one would think there was an i7 processor in it.

Cons: The trackpad!!! WHY oh why couldn't Gateway have spent a little more and put in a Synaptics trackpad. I've never had problems with those. BUT... this Gateway has an ElanTech trackpad. I never heard of Elan, but it's BAD. Bad because it picks up accidental brushes against the trackpad causing your cursor to jump all over. And yes, there are a few "sensitivity" and "palm check" settings. But no matter where you place the settings, the thing does the same jumpity jump. I've looked for driver updates everywhere (Win Updates, Elan's website) and there are none. So the "finicky" trackpad is the only "Con".

Other Thoughts: I swapped out the regular hard drive on my NV76R45u and put in an SSD. Now the laptop boots from cold start to Windows 7 desktop in literally 18 seconds!!! The speed of this laptop astounds me every time I use it! I always recommend this model whenever someone asks me which laptop to buy.

5 out of 5 eggsDefinition of a Bargain

Pros: Beautiful display, lightweight considering the screen size, runs cool, great WLAN. Great value for the price.

Cons: Trackpad you will want to avoid, go for a USB or wireless mouse. Decent amount of bloatware but that is pretty standard and it isn't difficult to remove.

Other Thoughts: So far so great. I'm a gamer but am not hardcore about it (currently working through the Mass Effect trilogy) and it has been cruising through on the highest settings with no issues and running cool the entire time. Some people fault the spacing in the keyboard but I actually really like it. For this level of LED display, monitor size, and specs, I think this is pretty tough to top. This is my first Gateway laptop and I have previously owned a Dell 17 series and Toshiba Satellite.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Deal

Pros: Fast boot, runs nice and cool, haven't had it become unresponsive in any way at all in my first month of ownership.

Cons: I dislike the space between the keys on the keyboard but a negligible complaint as it still works just fine.

Other Thoughts: The bloatware was there, but easy enough to remove and there wasn't a ton of it to be removed.

5 out of 5 eggsGateway Laptop

Pros: Product came within 3 days in a very secured package. This is my fourth computer from Newegg and as always they do a great job. Got this for my wife who is a nursing student and she loves the red color. I did the set up, made factory back-up disks and connected to the internet. Setup was smooth as silk. Great price, great computer.

Cons: Not to much here except speakers are just ok and all the bloatware will take a little time to remove.

Other Thoughts: Need a solid computer that really gets with it, you should consider this model.
