5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: The specs are fairly impressive for a laptop at this price.
I installed LinuxMint without issue, I hate windows anything. The last Acer I bought the SD card reader didn't work in Linux but in this laptop it works fine.

Cons: 4GB of memory are soldered into the motherboard, but this is fairly typical for laptops now a days. This makes upgrading memory limited to one slot and the CAS of the soldered in memory.

I wish that Acer would admit that the Converter Port can support many display port adapters

Other Thoughts: I thought that i would hate not having a CD rom, but barely noticed. I just used a USB CD-rom when I needed it. The placement of the power button is a little annoying, right next to the USB it gets pressed accidentally.

All and all, i am very pleased with this computer and gladly buy another Acer.

1 out of 5 eggsTrying to get a refund..

Pros: it ran better than what I expected for the first 2 weeks.

Cons: When it first arrived, I installed around 3 games on it. Diablo 3, WoW, and Dota 2. It ran the games at medium to high which was good, but after 2 weeks, yes 2 weeks performance at any one of those mentioned games suddenly dropped. I went from getting 20-30 fps on medium/high to 0-5 fps. I did not install any other program or game other than those 3, so that was awfully weird. What's worse is that I have a lower spec laptop from 2010 that runs the games better. I turned the settings on all 3 games to the lowest and its still averaging 5-10 fps, which doesn't make sense. Not eligible for return either...

Other Thoughts: I hope to speak with customer support on this issue, but its not available 24 hours a day like it suggests...

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop

Pros: Very portable, runs great, amazing speakers, Bluetooth, Plays my games above expectations.

Cons: Screen feels cheap (flimsy when opening), a lot of bloatware out of the box, No SSD like most other ultrabooks, only one USB 3.0, No VGA plug (I do a lot of presentations)

Other Thoughts: My 5 stars reflects the 479.99 price that I paid (it included shipping and Battlefield 4). I got this laptop because my old one was having some issues. I was upgrading from an Asus K53E that had a 2nd generation I5, but integrated graphics. I had played battlefield 3 on it, but it lagged even at low settings. I knew I wanted something with the A10 APU for gaming on a budget and also wanted something lighter like an ultrabook. This met both of those criteria and the lack of optical drive did not bother me because I was looking at ultrabooks that didn't have them. It did have a crazy amount of bloatware out the box, but I immediately did a clean install of Windows 8.1 enterprise so that was fixed. I have been using it for school with no problems.

Gaming-wise, I have played Battlefield 3 and can run it on Ultra without problems. I also have played the Battlefield 4 that came with it, but have only played it on Low settings which it does great - I do not think it will do good at higher settings though.

I intend to upgrade the RAM soon because I have a spare 4GB stick from where I had upgraded the ASUS. It does suck that 4GB is soldered on this one.

I think after upgrading that, I may add a smaller SSD or a Seagate Hybrid Drive.

4 out of 5 eggsV5-552-X814

Pros: Touch screen. The best sound from a laptop I've heard. Lighted keyboard. Price, 399.99 w/ coupon day before thanksgiving at medium sized box store.

Cons: No right click button on touch pad (why'o why). No dvd drive. Had to by an external. Had to take the whole bottom cover off to get to the one memory slot. Broke off one of the plastic vent grills in doing this. Need an 8G memory mod ($$) to upgrade to 12G. The computer seems to be taken over by Microsoft and Win8.

Other Thoughts: The specs on this A10 processor compare to an Intel I3 so the original price was a bit inflated.
I can see why a computer manufacturer or a end user would go back to Windows 7 to take back control of product. Boo Win8.

5 out of 5 eggsPowerful and thin. Great so far.

Pros: Very thin, light weight, powerful, perfect for school, light gaming i suppose. It came with a copy of Battlefield 4 but the code is only good for Origin and I am a fairly strict Steam user. but I wont put that in cons. Its not the computers fault. Especially great for the price I got this for.

Cons: I haven't really found a problem. It does come with windows 8 with I wasn't really excited about but also not the computers fault.

Other Thoughts: I needed a laptop for my school work. IPad really wasn't working out. In fact I've come to really dislike any and all tablets. I have a really good desktop that I've had since high school but I needed something I could use during work and at school. This has been awesome so far. Again, very light weight, powerful and thin. I played a few light games on it (Castle Crashers, Don't Starve and Borderlands). My next test game will be Skyrim. Once i changed a few settings it was great. The only thing that took my a little by surprise was the sound of the fan. Its not very loud for something, but its not like any other fan I've heard. A little high pitched maybe. But it doesn't happened often, and when it's done, it doesn't last long. During set up was the longest I'd heard it.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat I expected

Pros: I bought this laptop for light work/gaming, nothing too serious. So far it has performed everything fine. The build quality seems good, speed is decent, thin and light compared to regular notebooks. Seems to run cool as well.

Cons: The screen is not anything special but not horrible. Battery life is not great and the battery is built in, so it won't be as easy to replace when the time comes.

Other Thoughts: There is only one RAM slot from what I've read that is configurable. I plan to take apart soon to upgrade to 8MB. I think 4GB is soldered onto the board and 2GB is in the slot, but I am not sure on this. I also bought this for under $500 from newegg, and my five stars reflects this laptop at that price. Would be four stars for the $580 that it is priced at now.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome laptop!

Pros: This laptop has great power and speed for the cost. The keyboard is high quality as well as the speakers. So far I have run some pretty tough software and games on this laptop with no problems. I really recommend this one!!!

Cons: I would say that the two cons that I have for this laptop is the lack of spare RAM slots. This only allows you to upgrade to 8MB. The other con I would say is that it does not have a built in CD/ROM drive. You have to use an external drive for that. This is the only reasons I rated the laptop 4 stars. Otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.

Other Thoughts: I would say over all this is a great buy. I do not regret buying this laptop and I have really enjoyed this product!
