2 out of 5 eggsCrashing, parts dying, incredibly slow hdd

Pros: Runs silent, and cool.

Cons: Microphone and camera died after a few months. The second HDD is slowing down and has noticeable lag when loading something, especially while gaming. The display has started to flicker which requires a restart to fix. The touch pad is slow and doesn't always respond. Not worth the $1000 price tag.

Other Thoughts: At first the computer was excellent until everything started dying after a few months.

4 out of 5 eggsAcer Aspire V3 772G

Pros: Great price for the hardware.

Cons: The touchpad multi gesture just does not work with win 8 and after updating to 8.1 it fails literally 1 sec after use. So, what I'm saying is the touch pad only functions as a point and click device, don't expect it to scroll or zoom.

Also, Win 8/8.1 is complete garbage. I've had driver issues with just about everything. It is a pain to uninstall win8 bloatware. You have to jump through so many hoops just to remove office 2013.

If you want to install win 7, be prepared for another pain, go ahead and google it, you'll laugh.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat, but defective

Pros: Great Performance
beautiful screen
Fast response
great touchpad
great for gaming.
long battery life when in power save

An AMAZING computer for performance. While it was working for me was everything i had asked for.

Cons: Defective Hard drive
Customer Support is not knowledgeable
Tech support false diagnosis on initial problem
No free shipping within warranty after 5 months

see other thoughts...

Other Thoughts: If the HDD worked fine, would have been perfect, but due to the bad drive, which was falsely diagnosed as a bad OS install on the backup, forced me to ship it back for repair. At this time it was six months after purchasing, one month after their 5 (weird choice in time frame) free shipping for repair...when it was IN WARRANTY. fought and argued over what was the problem. Only after i sent PROOF of the drive failing through diagnostic software they admitted that it COULD be the drive, but they would have to see it to be sure. currently waiting to get it back since they DO NOT LEAVE UPDATES as to what they actually did before they sent it back.

tl dr:
great (but defective) pc, lousy support, disappointed cutomer, hoping its fixed

5 out of 5 eggsGreat laptop for school/gaming

Pros: -This computer is really fast!
-Value is unbelievable (for the 999.99 sale price)
-Stays relatively cool and quiet
-Feels durable
-Windows 8 is not as headache-inducing as I thought

Cons: -It's difficult to move without opening something or pressing a button
-The power cord is a pain to get in the slot
-The entire laptop lifts up when you open it, then slams back down as it opens if you're not careful
-Tons of bloatware (both from Acer and Windows 8)

Other Thoughts: Build Quality: 4 out of 5 stars

There is no doubt that this is a well-built computer. There are, however, a few small issues that led me to deduct a star. First, the power cable is very difficult to insert into the power slot. Second, whenever I try to pick it up, the disc drive is located such that I open it nearly every time. Third, (and maybe this isn't necessarily a bad thing) the entire computer lifts up if you don't hold it down when you open it. This either speaks to its light weight and good hinges, or a design flaw.

Performance: 5 out of 5 stars

I bought this for school and Diablo 3. It boots up in under 10 seconds. Office programs and web browsers (Chrome and Firefox) almost seem to open before I even click them. On Diablo 3, I get 60 frames per second at maximum settings and 1920x1080 resolution (it sometimes dips down to 30 fps during more graphically intense sequences, but this is not too noticeable).

The solid state drive is wickedly fast. The only complaint I have here is that everything automatically installs directly to the SSD. You will have to change your downloads and your personal files to the HDD, which is quite spacious at a nice 750GB. This was a minor pain that really only took a few extra minutes to set up. Overall, the speed you get from the SSD is definitely worth the small hassle.

I was hesitant about Windows 8, but once I customized the start menu and made my own fine-tuned adjustments, it became much less of a hassle than I originally anticipated. With that out of the way, it's a very stable and quick operating system.

As a side note, I was disappointed by the significant amount of bloatware on this computer. I spent probably an hour going through the control panel and the metro interface to get rid of all the junk.

Cooling & Noise: 5 out of 5 stars

On some gaming laptops I've had in the past (cough Alienware), the fans are at the bottom. This never made sense to me, because the laptop is always sitting on its bottom. On this laptop, though, the GPU fan is on the left side toward the upper-middle (between the escape key and the control key on the keyboard, approximately). Even during extended gameplay, the laptop stays quiet and remains cool enough to touch (although it does kick out some heat--it definitely doesn't stay stone cold).

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

This laptop is a steal for the 999.99 sale price. Even at $1300.00, though, this is a very nice computer. If you're a college student looking for something you can game in the middle of class with (and maybe take notes, of course...), then don't hesitate to purchase right away.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Upgrade

Pros: Quick boot up
,msata 120GB SSD
Video card runs most games

Cons: Windows 8
Can't figure out how to reinstall fresh Windows 8

Other Thoughts: I had a very old Asus ROG laptop (G72GX) and this is by far much quieter, cooler and more powerful. I can barely hear the fan while playing games on high-ultra vs playing the same games in low-medium on the ROG laptop.
