no cd or dvd but fast and i upgraded with 120gb ssd. suggested by other customer. Downloads fast almost ultrabook status. you get used to windows 8 i never really  liked touch screen but it was convenient for somethings.

is the battery removable?

Sadly, you must remove 18 screws to pop the back cover off.  It is technically an internal battery, and you must have the back cover installed before the laptop will even turn on.  The back cover completes the battery circuit to the board.

what does it weigh?

It's very light. I used to own a Macbook Pro 15" before I got this laptop and this one is MUCH lighter and slimmer.

If you put it in a backpack, the weight is noticeable, but not significant.

Does this laptop have a bay for a second hard drive or SSD?

I am almost 100% positive that this laptop has an additional slot for an ssd.

Can this be downgraded to Windows 7 Pro?

It can be downgraded to windows 7 however, please remember that there are no USB 3.0 Drivers so your USB 3.0 will not work.  You would be able to still use the USB plug but you will only be at USB 2.0 speeds.

Please be aware when you download drivers, you must use the windows 8 drivers on Windows 7.

Graphics need to be downloaded in this order as well...Intel first, then nvidia(i recommend downloading nvidia from nvidia website)

If you connect an external monitor to the HDMI on this computer, would the Nvidia card also power the external monitor when connected?  Or would the Nvidia card only improve video for the built in screen and any external monitor would use Intel graphics?

It is all depending on the application/program you are going to use.

For example, when I use an external monitor or my TV to play F1 2013, the NVIDIA card would be used.

The way the system is designed, it allows the Intel GPU to be use when graphics isn't that demanding.  When a program, such as a game, is being used, then the NVIDIA would override the Intel.

This method is all automatic and is used to save as much battery life as possible.

You can go into the NVIDIA settings and make the NVIDIA graphics the default where it is used at ALL times.  This will drain your battery quicker and cause the laptop to run hotter though.

Is real battery life anywhere near advertised?

Yes, as long as the Nvidia card is not used. To get the best performance you will need to keep this machine plugged in at all times.
