1 out of 5 eggsACER - poor tech service

Pros: good price & specs

Cons: As delivered the ACER would connect to my home wireless network only if it was 3-4 feet away from the router. Farther away it wouldn't connect. As I had destroyed the shipping box Newegg wouldn't take it back and I had to deal with ACER for repairs. ACER's tech service dept. was totally incompetent. They made 2 attempts to fix the problem, unsuccessfully. I finally bought a Dell laptop (which worked perfectly) and threatened to sue Newegg unless they took the defective ACER back. They finally did take it back and refunded most of my money. So, don't buy an ACER computer. As for Newegg, they were caught in the middle so I don't assign much blame to them. But be sure to keep the shipping box until you're sure you won't have to send the item back.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Laptop

Pros: Excellent gaming laptop as did not know I bought a Quad-Core Processor. Makes for an excellent Gaming Laptop. Can use any Acer Charger since it looks like all the charging cables look to be universal.

Cons: Does overheat, but with a cooling pad runs like a charm and does not overheat.

4 out of 5 eggsI like it

Pros: Starts up really fast, and I can play any game (online) at medium to high settings without lag. ie. Borderlands 1 & 2 , War Thunder, Crysis 2, Medal of Honor, Battlefield 3 and more. It is also fast when creating large HD videos using Sony Vegas 11.

Cons: Battery life is not 5 hours as advertised. Its more like 3 under normal online browsing conditions. It also runs pretty hot.

Other Thoughts: A great overall computer for gaming and HD video editing.

4 out of 5 eggsGood laptop

Pros: First and foremost, shipped with Windows 7, not that 8 garbage.
Has a quad core processor.
750 gig hard drive.
Didn't have to change any bios settings to set up a dual boot with Mint 16.
Thankfully, this model had the Atheros wifi card and not the broadcom. Broadcom linux drivers are spotty at best. Also nice was the touchpad being Elan and not Synaptics for the same reason as the wifi.
I did upgrade the memory from 4 gigs to 8 and was pleasantly surprised to find that I only had to take out 2 screws to access the memory, hard drive and wireless card. Will be nice later on when I upgrade the drive to ssd.

Cons: Only a few:
For some reason Acer did not include the AMD ahci driver, just the generic Microsoft one. Went to Acer's website and there was was no ahci driver. I do know that many manufacturers bundle the chipset drivers with the video driver so I downloaded the newest video driver. No ahci driver in there either. Had to go to AMD for the driver. Not a big deal, but definitely something I shouldn't have to do a new laptop.

Other Thoughts: Overall a good laptop. Cost a little more then I wanted to spend but finding a laptop with good hardware and Windows 7 pre-installed now a days is almost priceless Would definitely recommend this laptop.
