5 out of 5 eggsPretty awesome

Pros: When you first get the laptop and set it up its a bit slow. But I think thats mostly because of the excess apps already installed on the system and all the set up.

I found out after speaking to customer service that you can upgrade the RAM to 16GB with 2 8GB cards. DIMM DDR3 1333/1600. but you can't upgrade the CPU but it's 4th gen i3 so what ever. it's still good.

The sound quality is alright. It's really quiet when it's maxed out but that's what head phones are for.

The video quality is nice too. So if you just want to be lazy and watch movies or cartoons, you can without any disappointment (unless you have horrible internet connection then I am sorry for you son, I got 99 problems and internet ain't one).

You can run online games just fine with minimal settings if you use the system with default components.

Windows 8.1 is a nice combo with the touch screen so navigating is easy and the applications that are included or that can be downloaded with make your life simpler.

The acer apps didn't work at all for me but that wasn't a big deal considering the windows apps available.

If you have a windows phone then you basically have a good student/business set up having one drive (cloud server) to share files between the two.

I use my system to record and edit music (which doesn't need much requirements) and it runs great (so long I don't run other programs).

Cons: non that can't be fixed. It just needs more RAM.

Other Thoughts: It's cool.

2 out of 5 eggsGets the job done, not much more.

Pros: 2.5 stars. It runs, you can do all the web surfing you want. Word processing and day to day stuff all work fine. Video works ok, though not great (see below). Looks pretty nice for the price, touchscreen works fine, battery life is good.

Cons: It's kinda slow. My last computer was an Acer that I bought about 4 years ago with a slightly higher GHz Core - i3 processor and I had hoped that with the 4th generation i3 the difference in GHz would not be noticeable. But, frustratingly, this model is noticeably slower than the one I bought 4 years ago. This is especially true at startup and when watching streaming video. Streaming videos have a tendency to freeze sometimes. Nothing major, they usually start up again after 30 seconds but it can be an annoyance. Everything functions fine, it's just nothing to be excited about. I'm not particularly tech savvy so maybe others could get more out of their machine. But don't expect to be wowed.

Also, the sound quality is terrible. The speakers are on the bottom of the machine facing downward, playing into the desk or whatever surface it sits on. Very tinny sound, not much volume, takes some getting used to.

Windows 8 is annoying, especially at first. I'm not convinced that a one size fits all operating system is right for tablets and laptops. The tablet/phone-like functions seem useless to me most of the time and not very user friendly. But you get used to it pretty quick and might as well learn it now I guess because I don't see them going back to the old system.

Other Thoughts: Decent computer. If I could do it again I would go for a slightly higher end model or one of the similar models other brands make.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Deal @400!!

Pros: Low cost when on sale for 400, such as 3/8-3/10.
Touch screen is plenty bright and intuitive functions w/ Win 8, as one would expect.
Due to the widescreen format of the 15.6" display, the keyboard is large enough for long fingers to easily type.
Great performance-to-cost ratio. I needed to complete a bit of multitasking, college work, and the occassional casual game/emulator without all the power/heat/noise more aggressive machines generate.
Very quiet during use.
Does not get hot because of the low-voltage and lower performance over high-end machines.
Runs instances of Office applications and several background applications without issues.

Cons: No DVD drive. I can live without this however as all files are easily shared over home network, thumb drives, external hdd, or SD card.
Only 3 USB ports (may be a Con to some).
Windows recovery is challenging without DVD drive. An external HDD was used in my case.

Other Thoughts: Much lighter at 5lbs. than my gaming laptop.

Power port is on the right/back side of the laptop. This can be a Pro or Con for some. For me this is a positive feature because the laptop may be pushed further back on a desk or closer to a wall when necessary. (No cord sticking out the back).

Being a network engineer and avid gamer, I already have serious work, media center, desktop gaming, and mobile gaming machines. I was looking for something like this--low cost, best value in performance.
