5 out of 5 eggsFollow-up review - Still a value to me

Pros: Even cheaper than before =)

Cons: Obviously, make sure it is fully working before you send in the rebate. Available screen protector options for this model less than great.

Other Thoughts: Reading through the reviews here, it sounds like there is a wide variance in the quality control of the refurbished devices from Newegg. In the event that you luck out and get a fully working one, here are my discoveries in the 6 weeks of use since my first review. I mentioned that it freezes when going into sleep/low-power mode and mine still has that issue now and again, hereafter called the "sleep-freeze" issue. I still stick to my earlier recommendation to delete the mess of OEM partitions down to one NTFS partition and then clean install Windows 8.1, which can be done even with Windows 8 the license that comes with it (First use Belarc Advisor or similar to find out what the Windows Product Key is on your tablet). If you are going to stick with the version of Windows 8 that is on it and go through the long, slow upgrade path to 8.1, here is what I found with my son's Z2760 tablet: MAKE SURE you turn off any sleep options THROUGHOUT the update process and keep it plugged in, so that it will never attempt to sleep/hibernate/turn of screen (yes, even that) during the whole process. I personally believe it is some general fussiness with the power management in Z2760 chipset. In general usage, I have found that having it go into sleep mode when "closing the lid" (mine is in a leather case) causes more sleep-freezing, so I turned that off too. Don't worry... It will still go into a low-power mode when the "lid" is closed, even if you have all sleep options off. Over and out.

1 out of 5 eggsis it worth your time?

Pros: I like the size and weight.
NewEgg processed my order really fast and shipped really fast. (That's how fast they want to get rid of them.
I'll update this when I receive the replacement unit.

Cons: DOA
Now I have to deal with RMA and get it replaced.
The charge indicator light won't come on when plugged into the wall outlet.

Other Thoughts: ! should have gotten an !Pad or @ndro!d tablet.

1 out of 5 eggsDead on arrival

Pros: Lightweight

Cons: Dead, charge LED doesn't light, reset didn't work, won't power on whether plugged into AC adapter or USB. NewEgg is RMAing it. Looking forward to trying another one.

1 out of 5 eggsReplacement for DOA unit

Pros: Got to wait a few weeks to try the unit

Cons: System is set with an "other user" account on startup. I am unable to bring up any type of on screen keyboard. At this point I guess I get to purchase a micro USB adapter and hope I can coax some life out of the 2nd unusable tablet I have been shipped.

4 out of 5 eggsProbably won't work out of the box, but issues can easily be fixed

Pros: -Inexpensive windows tablet
-Portable size, long battery life
-relatively good performance (compared to other intel atom tablets) once you upgrade to windows 8.1 and update intel drivers

Cons: -terrible screen quality (compared to other windows atom tablets)
-probably will need bios update to get the table to recognize battery
-needs numerous updates (bios, driver, and windows) to get the tablet ready for use

Other Thoughts: Many reviews mention that this table is DOA due to the fact that it won't hold a charge. I had a similar issue and was able to fix it by updating the bios (just make sure to keep the tablet plugged in throughout the process because as soon as you unplug it then it will automatically shut down).

Once you update the bios you should then install the 100 or so windows updates (they will automatically show up when you search for updates). After that, you will have the ability to upgrade to windows 8.1 in the app store. After you do that, you can then check for driver updates on the acer website (there should be a set of updates dated 11-2013). After updating the drivers (in particular, the intel driver) I noticed a significant improvement in performance.

As you can see from this review, you have to jump through a number of hoops to get this tablet to work properly, but once you take care of all of the fixes you will end up with a great little tablet for under $100. The only other major criticism I have of this tablet is the screen quality, which is pretty bad compared to other windows tablets. I wouldn't try to read any books on this thing, but it it's great for just about anything else (movies, web browsing, office apps, etc...).

4 out of 5 eggsAcer Iconia w3-810-1600 8.1

Pros: Cost, Win 8.1 upgradeable take your time upgrading just a few updates at a time. Runs open office just fine , sd card slot , usb on the go ,hdmi out , room to install alot on sd card, runs vlc player,

Cons: Display is not ips but for the money who cares it is adequate without being a pain in the neck.

Other Thoughts: For a cheap win 8.1 tablet it does not get much better than this.

2 out of 5 eggsReturning

Pros: Windows tablet

Name brand product

nice screen for the price

Cons: Microsoft Office not working

Other Thoughts: I had high hopes for this tablet since I needed it for school, but unfortunately with the Microsoft Office not being included as advertised this will not work. The screen is not bad to me as most are saying and I was diagnosed as being legally blind years ago...

1 out of 5 eggsWindow update does work and terrible screen

Pros: Window 8

Cons: 1. No MS window license include - This is different from what is mentioned in the product description.
2. Screen resolution is terrible - It hurt my eyes to look at the screen for more than 5 mins
3. Window update does not work - it always give me an error code
4. No recovery disk

Other Thoughts: I want to return it but online RMA does not allow return. Will contact support to get RMA.

4 out of 5 eggsOnce you get it working, it's great.

Pros: It's a fast little web surfer and the app store is nifty.

Cons: The battery did not charge initially. I read on the Acer forums that something was wrong with the shipping bios. After updating the bios and power cycling the tablet (full shutdown, power up) twice, the battery was recognized and began charging.

Other Thoughts: I originally planned to RMA the unit, but once I did my own tech support and got the battery charging, it ran great. I have yet to test the HDMI and MicroUSB interface
