2 out of 5 eggsGREAT but it Breaks

Pros: Great laptop - light, functional... just fantastic.

Cons: It stopped booting up after about 3 months, and it went on a perpetual "must restart" loop. It wouldn't even boot. Even my techie friends - and a professional from Acer - couldn't get into it to even erase the hard drive. There is only one service center in the US - in Texas - and it takes two weeks to get it back PLUS you have to send it with all of your data! Ugh. It's a $1700 paperweight now.

Power cord is very loose. Agreed that this is a problem.

There is no place to plug in direct internet unless you buy a separate connector - you have to use Wi-Fi.

Other Thoughts: Great laptop, poor execution. Unfortunately, I suggest you don't buy it.

1 out of 5 eggsBottom line: Great laptop, when it’s not in the shop

Pros: The good: Fast, looks great, appears well built

Cons: The bad: It has required a new motherboard, SSD, and possibly another new motherboard in less than a year. Each service takes a little over a week. The power connector is soldered to the motherboard so any force on the cable can lead to charging failure and requirement to replace the motherboard. I suggest using only on a desk or on battery power.
After the first service the default drivers for the touchpad were not compatible so new drivers had to be found and installed before scrolling was functional again via the touchpad. Shortly after I got it back I upgraded to windows 8.1. A week after that the computer refused to boot. One service rep tried to blame the upgrade to windows 8.1 instead of the faulty SSD (which was eventually replaced). He stated that Acer does not support Windows 8.1 on the laptop and suggested I reinstall 8.0.
Another service rep (the special level 2 rep) suggested that power settings (balanced vs power saver) were to blame for my computer restarting every time I tried to exit sleep mode. It seems that reinstalling windows and setting everything back to default settings was not good enough to rule out a settings problem. He also asked why I wasn’t using hibernate and perseverated on that for what seemed like 10 minutes before moving on. It’s as if everything would have been ok if hibernate worked (it didn’t, it also caused a restart and loss of work).

Other Thoughts: Overall it was an excellent laptop until it started breaking down… every 3 months. I am especially worried about the power socket durability. I would expect most people to start having problems with that issue after the warranty has expired making the computer a very nice gorilla glass encased paperweight.
