4 out of 5 eggsNice Laptop

Pros: - Good hardware for the price
- Sleek Design
- Lightweight
- Good Battery Life

Cons: - Comes pre-installed with a ton of bloatware
- SD slot isn't of the spring variation, so when an SD is inserted it sticks out (and it is towards you) which can be awkward during long term typing sessions.
- Keys are a little stiff. I expect I will get used to this in time

Other Thoughts: Other reviewers noted that the text on the screen can be blurry at times, and I experienced this as well. The problem isn't the monitor, but Windows scaling, which causes items to be larger than default. Changing this setting back to the default (125%) eliminated all blurry text issues (control panel\appearance and personalization\Display).

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Hardware for cheap!

Pros: In this price range, this laptop is hands down the winner in terms of hardware. An i7 paired with 8GB of RAM, and a very decent dedicated video card? What else could you ask for? The styling is very minimalist, which I like and has a fingerprint barrier as well.

Cons: The LCD panel is simply terrible. Viewing angle is so small sometimes the bottom or top of the screen will wash out while viewing dead on. Text is also noticeably blurry, and no amount of setting twiddling remedies it.

Also, there is no CD rom drive present. I don't mind, but I did feel slightly misled by the photos. I read other reviews though, so I knew I wasn't getting one.

Other Thoughts: For the price, it is really hard to beat the combination of hardware. I didn't buy it for gaming, but it is very competent in that area, especially for games a few years old. For a daily-driver, most folks will probably be tickled to death with the performance.

Other have complained the touch-pad is terrible. Out of the box i agree, but it is greatly improved by simply turning the sensitivity down. Once I did that, it is not even an issue any more.

Turning the gamma all the way down helps with colors, but that's the extent of display adjustments that yielded improvement.

If it wasn't for the display, I'd consider this a flawless laptop for someone with a sub-$1000 budget who wants workstation performance. If you can deal with the display issues(or connect to a monitor) then you probably won't mind.

4 out of 5 eggsGood machine, poor screen

Pros: The build quality is excellent, it is a good-feeling, solid, lightweight machine. Excellent keyboard, the hinge is solid and the lid doesn't flop around. Everything works as it should. No rough, sharp edges as some of the newer ones have. The plastic feels solid (except for the screen). It is fast, it's not locked up on me a single time. I'm very happy with it.

Cons: But the screen...oh my...it's appalling. It is a MATTE screen, not glossy. You'd think that would be good...no glare. But it has such a poor viewing angle that even the difference from one eye to another is significant, no matter how I hold my head. The colors are muted and awful, no matter how much I mess with the settings. I use this machine mostly docked to a large, separate monitor and it is beautiful. So the poor color is due to the screen and not the onboard graphics.

The touchpad is also appalling and jumps around a lot. But when I try to scroll with it (two finger), it just doesn't work half the time. I keep automatically licking my fingertips as if it would help (it doesn't). I use a mouse mostly, so it's not an issue for me. But gee, how hard is it to put a good touchpad in there?

The headphone jack and power cord are on opposite corners/sides so that means if I use it plugged in on my lap, I'm always tangled in one cord or another. The monitor and USB ports are all over the place, so if this is fully attached to peripherals it is like an octopus, leading me to buy a USB docking station (which allows me to dock this laptop to my desk with two cords..nice).

Other Thoughts: The lid itself is a bit floppy. The hinge is solid, but the top of the lid will bow if you set something on the closed laptop and the screen will show artifacts if you push the laptop screen up against something (like a bookshelf above your desk). A layer of something rigid in there would have been great. I worry about harming my screen if something in my bag, like a mouse, were to be under the laptop when I lay the bag down.

4 out of 5 eggsNIce Laptop

Pros: Runs fast
Lots of storage space
Dedicated gaming graphics card

Cons: Windows 8 (not really a con of the computer but should be noted)
Track pad is not great.
Sort of plain looking.

Other Thoughts: My cons aren't that big of a deal, but I would totally give this 5 stars if the laptop was 14'' instead of 15.6 which is a little bit big, in my opinion. The trackpad is a terrible, so I use a mouse whenever possible. I wish it had a little bit more flash, like a backlit keyboard. If you can ignore these minor things you will have a great laptop. What it lacks in looks it makes up for in performance!
