2 out of 5 eggsBulky while not very sturdy

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 Touch (59426255) Gaming Laptop 4th Generation Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40 GHz) 8 GB Memory 1 TB HDD 8 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2 GB 15.6" Touchscreen Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: It's an alright gaming laptop. Still has lag spikes when I play SC2 HotS and I have to play it on very low settings in order to be able to have a smooth game (If it's under 30 minutes or so.) Speakers are pretty loud, probably the best thing about this laptop.

Cons: -HUGE and heavy laptop for a 15.6 display. The same length as my 17 laptop. Same weight too.
-Touch screen can be very annoying as it causes everything to lag so I had to turn off the touch screen almost a week within getting this laptop in order to keep it running smoothly.
-Not a laptop that should be used on the go. Very huge and bulky. Not very sturdy either.
-A year and 1 month and the laptop hinges broke on me. When I open my laptop the bottom casing for the screen got caught in the top casing for the keyboard and now my hinges don't work, so I can't open and close this laptop without risking more damage.
-It's in the middle of a laptop and a desktop. Too huge to carry around like a laptop and not fast enough as a desktop.

Other Thoughts: Disappointed in Lenovo after having to deal with this laptop. Lot's of spam also comes when getting a Lenovo but that's just the start of it. I do not recommend this laptop to anyone. Invest in a desktop with the price your'e paying for this or a smaller, less bulkier laptop.

1 out of 5 eggsDON'T BUY, DEFECTIVE HINGE

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 Touch (59426255) Gaming Laptop 4th Generation Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40 GHz) 8 GB Memory 1 TB HDD 8 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2 GB 15.6" Touchscreen Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: cheap, good audio

Cons: Within 6-months the monitor hinge broke. Googling "Lenovo Y50 hinge" reveals that this is a manufacturing problem affecting this model, yet support says when I created my ticket that I may be charged for the repair. CRAZY, don't buy a Y50, and you'll probably want to buy additional insurance through squaretrade or the retailer.

Also, the monitor panel is awful.

1 out of 5 eggsStay Away

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 Touch (59426255) Gaming Laptop 4th Generation Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40 GHz) 8 GB Memory 1 TB HDD 8 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2 GB 15.6" Touchscreen Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: It seemed like a good buy for the price (at the time).

Cons: Build Quality is low, Lenovo doesn't stand behind their workmanship, and the people doing repairs make things worse each time they touch the computer.

Other Thoughts: This is an update of "Solid. Except when it's not.", posted 11/11/2014. I'm downgrading from two Eggs to one.

The hinge cover came loose after 2 and a half months. The computer had never been dropped or mis-handled in any way. Lenovo refused to stand behind their product, claiming "accidental damage".

Fine. I bought the accidental damage plan. I sent it off to them. After roughly two weeks, the laptop came back, but they'd replaced the screen--with a regular LCD screen instead of the touchscreen.

I shipped it off to them again. This time they've scratched the case and re-imaged the hard drive, claiming my OS was corrupt. I had Windows 7 on it, and now I'm stuck at the "Finish Setting Up Windows 8" screen, with a Product Key that's already been used (because it's the tech company's image).

TLDR: This laptop was just fine for a couple of months, but since then has been nothing but a headache, and the repair folks just keep making it worse.

2 out of 5 eggsGood value, bad build quality and display

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 Touch (59426255) Gaming Laptop 4th Generation Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40 GHz) 8 GB Memory 1 TB HDD 8 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2 GB 15.6" Touchscreen Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Good gaming performance
Fast
Nice keyboard
Not too heavy (Not light either)

Cons: The build quality is TERRIBLE. I have seen other people complaining saying the hinges near the display broke after a month or two in reviews here, and the same thing happened to me after about a month and a half after buying the laptop.

The display is honestly horrible. The colors are just disgusting for me and I just don't enjoy using it.

Other Thoughts: It's a decent laptop for the price, but it's bad build quality and display keep me from recommending it. Buy something like the acer aspire v nitro and keep yourself away from this.

1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 Touch (59426255) Gaming Laptop 4th Generation Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40 GHz) 8 GB Memory 1 TB HDD 8 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2 GB 15.6" Touchscreen Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Hardware is good, and is the only reason i give this product any eggs.

Cons: Build quality is horrible. I purchased the 16 gb version of the touch screen model in September of 2014 and have been using it for a couple of months. This PC has many flaws in its design.

The battery is internal and the only way to get to it is by unscrewing the case. This wouldn't be a problem except for the fact that the battery is barely connected to the motherboard inside. If you place the laptop on its side in a backpack with the number keys facing up the battery will lose its connection and the laptop will not charge. This is a HUGE problem and has forced me to reinstall everything and lose all my data within a month of use. Fortunately I didn't lose too much data because of multiple backups.

Another major problem is with its hinges. Everytime I open the laptop there is a loud cracking sound and most of the time the bottom left hand portion of the screen gets snagged on the speaker. Thus making the hinge simply pop off.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a gaming laptop and want something sturdy look elsewhere and don't buy from Lenovo.

Also, the model that I purchased didn't include the pictured external drive.

3 out of 5 eggsI really want to like it..

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 Touch (59426255) Gaming Laptop 4th Generation Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40 GHz) 8 GB Memory 1 TB HDD 8 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2 GB 15.6" Touchscreen Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: - Backlit keyboard
- thin
- design
- stays cool
- quiet

Cons: - SLOW, going from an older HP with an i5 and 4gb ram to this with an i7 and 8 gb of RAM I was expecting it to be lightening fast, but it is not. From the start, it boots up slow from hibernation (~45sec). the old HP would boot from hibernation almost instantly. and going back into hibernation takes about a minute or minute half. Also doing simple things like opening windows 8 apps can take 10 to 15 seconds. The GoPro studio software can take 30sec to a minute. I'm really disappointed in the speeds..

- Keyboard layout, typing is easy and I like the responsiveness of the keys, but the location and placement of certain things is frustrating. First of all, it takes two hands to adjust volume or screen brightness. These are controlled by pressing function then one of the arrow keys. And the arrow keys are small and squished between the QWERTY and number pad. The shift button is small and the delete button is sandwiched between a bunch of the other keys. You can adjust the function keys to require pressing the fn key or not, but the available functions in the fn keys are not very useful. again, disappointed in the keyboard.

- Speakers, they are average i guess. there is some lenovo software that can make it sound a bit better but its not as good as my old HP with Beats from 4 years ago.s

- Trackpad placement, i like the trackpad but the location is annoying. it is not centered in the computer so i always find my (right) hand using the right side of the trackpad and when I try to click i end up right clicking.

- The power cord is short (compared again to my HP)

- Its a lot bigger than I was expecting and almost does not fit into the 15.6" case I got for it. Its also kinda heavy for being plastic.

Other Thoughts: - I got this for video editing, not gaming.

- I've read that it will get faster with time, but I have a hard time believing that.

- No pros or cons about the touch screen or screen quality. A lot of people don't like it but it looks fine to me.

- Considering returning it and just keeping the old HP until it dies.

- Maybe I'm expecting too much, but for $1000 it should run better than and old HP pavilion that was $500 from staples 4 years ago, just saying..

2 out of 5 eggsSolid. Except when it's not.

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 Touch (59426255) Gaming Laptop 4th Generation Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40 GHz) 8 GB Memory 1 TB HDD 8 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2 GB 15.6" Touchscreen Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: It's quick, quiet, and does everything advertised. As usual, Newegg got it here quickly. The screen is bright and the red backlit keyboard is great.

Cons: * The touch pad is constantly triggering when it shouldn't be. It's really frustrating to be typing along and suddenly have your text showing up someplace else.
* The hinge cover has come loose after two and a half months. This prevents the laptop from opening and closing easily. Even though it's still under warranty and never been dropped or abused, Lenovo are claiming it's "Accidental Damage" and unwilling to repair.
* Windows 8 was frustrating, so I went back to Windows 7. If you do this, be sure you have the drivers ready to go, as they're not included in the stock Win7 install.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat gaming and everyday laptop

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 Touch (59426255) Gaming Laptop 4th Generation Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40 GHz) 8 GB Memory 1 TB HDD 8 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2 GB 15.6" Touchscreen Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Great laptop, good built, processor, excellent and sharp display, great sound quality from JBL speaker with S/PDIF audio out. Overall it is a very nice laptop for the price. It is tough and can has been able to handle pretty much anything from games to everyday work in graphics with agility.

Cons: Poor support with Lenovo, slow HDD even with SSD hybrid

1 out of 5 eggslow quality

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 Touch (59426255) Gaming Laptop 4th Generation Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40 GHz) 8 GB Memory 1 TB HDD 8 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2 GB 15.6" Touchscreen Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: I don't see any pro to this unit

Cons: fell apart with a month, internet keeps dropping out, blue tooth never worked and tech support ended up downloading free software that had a malware on it and it had to restore to factory default to undo.

Other Thoughts: just too low quality!
