2 out of 5 eggsGreat for gaming but comes with some faults.

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 (59426157) Gaming Laptop Intel Core - i7-4700HQ - 2.4 GHz - 15.6" - Windows 8.1 - 64Bit

Pros: This PC has great hardware for an affordable price. Runs very quiet when playing games like GTAV and Skyrim but can get a little bit heated up sometimes.

Cons: Tons and tons of bloatware. Removing some of the bloatware will even crash the computer. Comes preinstalled with the infamous "SuperFish" from Lenovo as well.

Make sure that you change the default graphics card because otherwise you will be playing all games with the built in Intel Processor Graphics Chip which makes it so nearly all games run like garbage. Once this setting is changed from the NVIDIA control panel, the games run great.

I have had to re-install the operating system several times due to several issues that I have never encountered ever before. One of these being a missing driver that was claimed to have been "installed" on the computer. However, since this was corrupted, I could not use any USB Mass Storage Device including my WD exteranl harddrive or any of my USB flash drives. I had to re-install the operating system to fix this.

Other Thoughts: I have had this product since December 2015 (a total of 5 months) and I can safely say this was a bad purchase. I have never had so many issues with a laptop before. As a computer scientist who has used many different computers, I can safely not recommend this computer. It has many driver issues that cannot be resolved unless you re-install Windows. This must be done about every ~3 months to keep the computer running.

1 out of 5 eggsFrequent Boot Failures

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 (59426157) Gaming Laptop Intel Core - i7-4700HQ - 2.4 GHz - 15.6" - Windows 8.1 - 64Bit

Pros: Looks nice. Good combination of features. Runs all my games. I would be happy except for the MAJOR con.

Cons: Dont know if it is Windows 8 or the hard drive but the mandatory Windows 8 autorepair drive function crashes the OS everytime making it unbootable. Have to refresh (reinstall) W8 about every three weeks, re-delete all bloatware and re-install favorites. Moved all my files to a separate partition to keep them safe but still takes 4-6 hrs to reinstall W8 every time.

Other Thoughts: My old Windows 7 computers are much more reliable.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome laptop

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 (59426157) Gaming Laptop Intel Core - i7-4700HQ - 2.4 GHz - 15.6" - Windows 8.1 - 64Bit

Pros: I have the "Lenovo Y50 (59426157) Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 8GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit". It is a beautiful laptop. I will admit there is some work when you first get like uninstalling all the bloatware etc etc. I game on the laptop for the majority of the time but use it for work as well as I operate a IT Help Desk from home and at my office.

The laptop is quick to respond, I almost never use the touchpad, so I can't comment there. I donwloaded the Nvidia drivers easily and set the Nvidia 860m as the default GPU through Nvidia's control panel quite easily.

I lot of people complain about the screen, I don't see anything wrong with it, no washed out look, I can view it from the side, above, and below and the picture holds true.

I'm not going to comment about Windows 8.1 as it is your opinion if you like it or not, I personally do not mind it.

Haven't had any slow downs what so ever with the 1TB Hybrid Drive, in fact, it works fantastic.

When playing games, obviously the fans kick on, they are quiet but you will obviously hear them, you don't NEED a cooling pad, but cooler the better.

The keyboard and keys feel and type great, no comment there really.

From the OFF position to the tiled screen desktop, bootup takes roughly 15 seconds.

Speakers and sound quality are great as well for gaming and listening to music.

Cons: None so far, this thing is a beast and runs amazing.

Other Thoughts: All in all, awesome laptop and I reccomend it, I picked it up for $950 and couldn't be happier.

Some people just got a bad laptop out of the box, which is unfortunate but should not be the deciding factor if you should or shouldn't get this laptop.

You cannot go wrong with this laptop!

5 out of 5 eggsChanged my mind

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 (59426157) Gaming Laptop Intel Core - i7-4700HQ - 2.4 GHz - 15.6" - Windows 8.1 - 64Bit

Pros: I previously gave this product a bummer review because a couple days out of the box it got a dead pixel and shortly thereafter would not boot up. After contacting Lenovo directly and getting an RA from New Egg, we got a new computer and it's running like a champ. My son couldn't be happier. Says its the best gaming computer he's had. He also says it doesn't run as hot as the last one he had (ACER).

Cons: None so far. Working like a champ.

Other Thoughts: Great customer service and follow up. This is why I keep coming back to Newegg for all my computer needs.

1 out of 5 eggsLooks good, works bad

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 (59426157) Gaming Laptop Intel Core - i7-4700HQ - 2.4 GHz - 15.6" - Windows 8.1 - 64Bit

Pros: Strong processor, and with 16 gb of RAM it works rather well (sort of). Good presentation in advertising, and it is certainly thin. Back lit keyboard is neat, if that's your kind of thing.

Cons: Where to begin. The display, like many have said before, is godawful, with the sides being just in the area of your eyes that make it blurry enough to be irritating. The processor may be strong, but it runs dangerously hot, to the point that when trying to use the keyboard at all while running a game of even moderate intensity without a laptop cooling device may end up burning your fingers. The graphics card is default set in every program to the Intel graphics, and you must change this manually in every single program for it to actually change, as it doesn't seem to listen to the nvidia control panel.

Other Thoughts: It certainly looks nice, but with all its flaws in the hardware and software, as well as the obscene amounts of bloatware that lenovo installs (Including that one piece of malware, superfish, which does come installed and takes a ridiculous amount of time to get rid of), it really isn't something worth paying $1300 for. My only regret is I didn't see this until my refund period was up, as I sorely wish I could return this piece of junk.

1 out of 5 eggsBroken out of the box

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 (59426157) Gaming Laptop Intel Core - i7-4700HQ - 2.4 GHz - 15.6" - Windows 8.1 - 64Bit

Pros: None - if it non-functioning out of the box, there is nothing nice to say about it. Powers up nicely but no display.

Cons: Non functioning display - either the graphics card was faulty or the screen itself and/or the construction was. Given that it comes with superfish installed, failed to work out of the box, I cannot recomment

Other Thoughts: Given that it comes with superfish installed and ailed to work out of the box, I cannot recommend this laptop no matter feature packed it is for the price.

1 out of 5 eggsRun away

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 (59426157) Gaming Laptop Intel Core - i7-4700HQ - 2.4 GHz - 15.6" - Windows 8.1 - 64Bit

Pros: Good when it is working

Cons: Overall Workmanship. Motherboard, HDD, Wireless.

Other Thoughts: I've literally spend days figuring this laptop out between replacing the HD with a SSD, downloading drivers, messing with the BIOS, reinstalling windows, etc. You name it, I've done it. I had high hopes for this but total let down. Will be returning to new egg.

1 out of 5 eggsDissapointing

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 (59426157) Gaming Laptop Intel Core - i7-4700HQ - 2.4 GHz - 15.6" - Windows 8.1 - 64Bit

Pros: Fast CPU.

Lots of ram.

Good speakers for a laptop.

Graphics card is really good for a laptop.

Cons: Extremely slow hard drive. This thing just bogs down the whole system. It's supposed to be a hybrid 1TB with an 8GB SSHD cache. Regardless of what it is, it is so slow. It just makes the whole system crawl.

This thing also feels flimsy and low quality.

The screen is the next thing. It's not the worst, but it sure could have been better. Viewing angles are bad. It is a very cheap 1080p display.

Next, SuperFish. It's bad enough when companies load their brand new systems with crapware, but maleware?! This system comes with SuperFish preinstalled. If you haven't heard, Lenovo has put this on several of their systems and it alters the certificates and makes it much easier for someone to steal information from you. It's also not as simple as just uninstalling either. You have to go through and remove the certificates too.

Other Thoughts: Honestly, I will NEVER buy a computer from Lenovo again just because of the malware that came preinstalled. Look elsewhere! A $1,000 computer should not have any of these issues.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat hardware and system

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 (59426157) Gaming Laptop Intel Core - i7-4700HQ - 2.4 GHz - 15.6" - Windows 8.1 - 64Bit

Pros: I got this laptop for my girlfriend for graphic design work and playing games. It does both great with it's high res and 16GB of RAM.

SSHD might bit slow, but not really noticeable. No boot issue and Windows 8.1 w/ Update 1 is fine once you get used to it. With 8.1U1 it boots right to Desktop and work very similar to 7.

Lots RAM, great screen res, and fast CPU

Cons: Bigger than expected

Not too happy with keyboard, no dedicated media\mute keys.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Performance

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 (59426157) Gaming Laptop Intel Core - i7-4700HQ - 2.4 GHz - 15.6" - Windows 8.1 - 64Bit

Pros: -Sound quality is nice
-Backlit keyboard is very handy
-Battery life is pretty good as long as you are not doing mobile gaming
-Sturdy construction (the aluminum top and bottom are very nice)
-Excellent gaming performance for the price.
-Can run Crysis 1 on moderate/high settings
-Can run Crysis 2 and 3 on second highest settings
-Doesn't heat up very much
-Nice keyboard

Cons: -Coming from using a Windows 7 PC for 7 years, the switch to 8.1 was difficult
-Some W8.1 services can bog system down, but it is easy to fix
-Glossy touch display gets very messy, very quickly

Other Thoughts: Overall, I have really enjoyed this machine. As an engineering student I needed a PC that could run coding and modeling software effortlessly, and I have not been disappointed yet.
