4 out of 5 eggsBeautiful Design, Fantastic Sound, Great Value

This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 (80Q0000EUS) Gaming Laptop 6th Generation Intel Core i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 256 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 10 Home

Pros: Beautiful all metal design
JBL audio, forward facing speakers are loud
Has Sub-woofer on the bottom
Keyboard and trackpad are one of the best
Excellent performance
Heat is NOT a problem
Did I mention its beautiful?

Cons: Lenovo opted to add a (rather cheap?) "anti-glare" coating on the screen, that I'm not too sure I like. (Some people have removed this and say a gorgeous, glossy vibrant screen lies beneath...yet I'm not brave enough to remove it.)
The brushed aluminum finish is a fingerprint magnet in the worst way. In fact the entire device is prone to fingerprints.

Other Thoughts: overall this is a great device that I would recommend to anyone. You can find a better gaming laptop, but not at this price.

1 out of 5 eggsLook somewhere else!

This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 (80Q0000EUS) Gaming Laptop 6th Generation Intel Core i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 256 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 10 Home

Pros: Fast shipping by New Egg.

Cons: Had Laptop for 2 weeks before motherboard fried!
Lenovo has had this at their repair facility longer than I have had it in my possession.
Lenovo's customer service is seriously lacking in communication skills and they are always right.

Other Thoughts: From the first day I fired this up I had conflicts with the nVidia card needing to update but never would. Even after messing with it and getting the updates, the laptop would default to the onboard graphics card even while playing any kind of game. And Like I said in the cons, I only had it for 2 weeks before the motherboard went bad. Lenovo has had my laptop since the 28th of January 2016 and it is still counting. Just my opinion but save your money and buy something else, not this 1200 dollar paper weight.
One last thing, I even talked to a supervisor at Lenovo to try and get some answers today and he blew me off!

3 out of 5 eggsDouble-Edged Sword

This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 (80Q0000EUS) Gaming Laptop 6th Generation Intel Core i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 256 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 10 Home

Pros: -RAM can handle the hardest gaming stress you can put on it, as can processor
-amazing boot time
-sleek keyboard keys
-numerous versatile ports
-excellent fan placement and efficiency (doesn't get in the way/doesn't suffocate easily)
-high speaker volume and quality
-high mic quality

Cons: -almost a little too heavy
-severe mic/soundcard and motherboard problems
-NVIDIA driver update was needed immediately after opening, yet it did not work. Had to use third party driver updater software.

Other Thoughts: About the mic/soundcard, as other reviews and forums state, the mic will randomly work and not work. Restarting only SOMETIMES fixes the problem. This problem can happen even happen when using a mic through the audio/mic port with external headsets.

Also had an experience similar to other people where device would not start. I sent the device back to Lenovo in Grapevine, Texas. Shipping to and from the facility was quick, however a part needing to be replaced (later I found to be the mother board) was on back order. After calling several support employees it took 28 days for my laptop to be repaired and returned. When I found out the motherboard was replaced, I expected the mic problem to go away. Today, my laptop still doesn't have a fully functional mic.

I wish this computer worked all of the time. When it works, it is better than most other laptops and desktops, built or not, for its price (especially when it's on sale). In order to avoid having to send this laptop back and/or have a computer with an unreliable microphone, I would recommend buying this item after Lenovo HOPEFULLY fixes these issues because it really is a great machine other than 2 MAJOR problems.

1 out of 5 eggsdo not get this laptop

This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 (80Q0000EUS) Gaming Laptop 6th Generation Intel Core i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 256 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 10 Home

Pros: I like the backlit keyboard and fast boot up time and large crisp display

Cons: mic will not work at random times
display drivers freeze up
display blacks out and forces you to restart
video card drivers will not update out of the box
am returning for different laptop

Other Thoughts: do not buy this laptop as it was just issue after issue and only got worse and worse and I've only had it for two days and now have an RMA in hand and will be getting something else with much better reviews

1 out of 5 eggsPoor product. Breaks after 3 weeks. Bad warrenty service. Poor customer service.

This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 (80Q0000EUS) Gaming Laptop 6th Generation Intel Core i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 256 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 10 Home

Pros: Since I had less than 3 weeks with this product there was very little time to find pros about it.

Cons: The product broke in less than 3 weeks of ownership with little use. When I made a warrenty claim the factory was out of part to fix the computer. The default time to process a warrenty is already almost 3 weeks with ground shipping to and from the factory and 7 business days to process so these delays will leave you without a computer for over a month. Lenovo support and customer service does not seem to care at all that I placed my trust in them by purchasing this product and this time without it will cost me dearly on my school and work.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy this product unless you intend to spend weeks without it shortly after buying. Will likely not be purchasing another lenovo product.

1 out of 5 eggsCannot recommend RMA'd twice, do not be fooled by the specs and the price...i was

This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 (80Q0000EUS) Gaming Laptop 6th Generation Intel Core i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 256 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 10 Home

Pros: price seems good and it has all the specs you want. Newegg was great with making me a satisfied customer with their RMA procedure. I ended up buying an Alienware instead

Cons: 2 times I had the exact same issues! I think Lenovo put out a troubled product. 1. The major issue-I shutdown and the next morning the laptop refused to restart. I don't know what the actual problem was, motherboard, cpu, gpu, ssd...who knows. Issues 2-4 are just annoyances.... 2. Like other posts, it failed the Lenovo Solution Center Video Card Test for Intel(R) HD Graphics 530, for Mathematical Operations, 3. it keeps registering a display adapter stopped working error and 4. Nvidia updates do not work right out of the box, I had to do some tweaking to get it to work. and yes all of these issues happened on both laptops I had! The same exact issues out of the box

Other Thoughts: Thank you Newegg for taking care of a long time customer, after you allowed a refund I quickly purchased a different branded laptop from your website and couldn't be happier! The Alienware 17" is amazing

1 out of 5 eggsWorst Purchase Decision I've Ever Made!

This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 (80Q0000EUS) Gaming Laptop 6th Generation Intel Core i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 256 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 10 Home

Pros: -It looks nice on the outside.

Cons: -Out of the box it will not install updates from NVIDIA and the screen flickers every 15-20 seconds.
-It only has 256 GB of Memory, I guess that is on me for misreading the specs. Extremely over priced compared to other laptops of this class which sport a 1 TB HDD or higher. It doesn't appear like I could expand the internal storage space and I haven't been able to find any documentation on the matter.
-Glitchy, upon first run it ran a self diagnostic and failed 3 categories and then the computer crashed before I could screen shot.

Other Thoughts: -Being a first time Lenovo customer, I do not recommend this or any of their products at the time. I expected a lot more out of the box for $1200.
-Trying to get a hold of Lenovo on the phone regarding the issue has proved fruitless.

4 out of 5 eggsFantastic Laptop, Minor flaws

This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 (80Q0000EUS) Gaming Laptop 6th Generation Intel Core i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 256 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 10 Home

Pros: i7 skylake, 16GB DDR4, 256GB ssd, 17 inch screen

Runs very smoothly and has great performance for the price I got it for ($1099)

Lots of functionality, laptop looks absolutely gorgeous, the built in speakers and subwoofer are good with the dolby tuned software.

Cons: Anti-glare plastic on screen is terrible. Washes out colors and makes everything a little blurry.

GTX 960 is a bit of a low end card, should of at least put a 970 on here especially since the last gen of Lenovos had the gtx 960 as well.

Windows 10 is annoying and there is some bloatware

Lenovo doesnt offer 1TB HDD at 7200 RPM, was forced to go with only a SSD of 256GB.

Mic sometimes is not recognized and you have to restart the laptop before it is recognized again, there are other issues like this but I believe this is due to windows 10

Webcam sucks. For this price point they definitely went cheap on the webcam, picture quality is decent at best lighting conditions. You can't mirror the image at the max resolution as it doesn't support it.

*UPDATE*

Woke up to the laptop refusing to power on. Screen remains powered off when turning on the power and even plugging in HDMI does nothing, only the power button stays on with the laptop not working.

The laptop died on me within the first month of owning it. Have RMA'd it to Newegg for a replacement and can say that this is very disappointing. To have a brand new laptop die so quickly without any warning signs is troubling. Luckily I got the warranty when buying this and I recommend you do so as well.

Other Thoughts: The laptop is fantastic when it works, it's very fast, the 16GB of DDR4 are great and work well w/ the blazing fast i7 skylake.

Even when taking into account the flaws it's still a good laptop, but it could have been great had Lenovo fixed them.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Home Media Laptop

This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 (80Q0000EUS) Gaming Laptop 6th Generation Intel Core i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 256 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 10 Home

Pros: Backlit keyboard, well placed touch pad which won't get in the way of typing, solid performance, great build quality (feels very sturdy). Great battery life. Real loud quality speakers (for a laptop), love their placement. Great viewing angles on screen. Battery life is great, performs incredibly well with any application. Anti glare is applied onto the screen.

Cons: If you get an SSD only version like I did, there might not be a place to add an extra hard drive. I had a spare 1TB laptop drive I wanted to add in, only to find out there was only an NGFF SSD installed, the space where a 2.5" drive would go had no cage, or connection ready for an extra drive, not to mention how difficult it is to take apart. Screen doesn't have the best color range, but it looks nice.

Other Thoughts: Would have liked to see at least a 965m instead of 960m, only cause I know it has better performance to power ratio, and consumes less power. I also would have liked to have been able to add in a spare drive. Would have liked to see some multimedia controls in the power button area, as there seems to be a lot of unused areas around the keyboard, but I guess it makes it easier to move around, without hitting a button by accident. Even so, I think its gonna last me many years.
