5 out of 5 eggsVery fast laptop & casual gamer

This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 (80NV0028US) Gaming Laptop 6th Generation Intel Core i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR5 15.6" Windows 10 Home 64-Bit

Pros: Fast internal processing
1080p screen
sound is great for a laptop
graphics for casual gamer
touch-pad is accurate & smooth
very good cooling solution, can hear fans but not annoying except when using internal mic
intel wireless card
top lid/screen attached firmly, no wiggle and will hold position
key board rigid, no flex.....keys very slight click but feel good & positive
back-lit keyboard

Cons: 5400rpm hdd.....slows things down
not really a con but touch-pad has right & left click integrated , works well but I prefer separate buttons
case is a finger print magnet
case must be removed to replace battery
removing the back/bottom case panel can be tricky..I found a good way to do this
Can seem a bit heavy at almost 6 pounds
internal mic picks up fan vibration/sound
all this performance comes at a price......battery good for about 1.5 hours in performance mode & mod to heavy use

Other Thoughts: This is a very, very nice laptop for anyone, with speed to spare.
I replaced the hdd with a samsung evo 850 500 GB and the speed is astounding.
The evo is working perfectly and it seems that every aspect of the computer
works faster. This is becoming my go to computer.
Now if I just had fiber in my area

5 out of 5 eggsBest laptop at this price point.

This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 (80NV0028US) Gaming Laptop 6th Generation Intel Core i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR5 15.6" Windows 10 Home 64-Bit

Pros: -Great parts at this price. Solid processor, obscene amounts of RAM (for a laptop of this price... try comparing to the price of Alienwares with 16GB), and a great video card. These parts make it great for multitasking and allows it to rivals medium - level desktops in the gaming department.

-In all the gaming I've done thus far, the laptop has not gotten noticeably hot in any way. See below for games tested. So I'd say it has excellent cooling.

-Backlit keyboard has a few brightness settings which can be cycled through with a key press, no software needed.

-Cold boots in 4-5 seconds after an SSD upgrade, makes you feel cool. Without the upgrade though, it takes about... 20, if I remember right.

-Sleek, somewhat futuristic design. Very easy on the eyes.

Games tested:
Warframe - Runs seamlessly on max.
Tera - It defaulted to the minimum settings, I put them on max and it struggled a tad, medium was a nice balance.
Diablo 3 - Seamless on max.
Smite - It wanted to run on minimum at first, but was just as fine when I put it on high. Max caused it to struggle a tad though.
Solitaire - Terrible, crashed on startup, then ran at like 5fps when I could get it running... not even the highest end rigs could run this beast anyway, but it was worth a shot.

Cons: - 5400 RPM drive bottlenecks this machine severely. Fortunately, upgrading it to an SSD was a breeze.

-THE BLOATWARE. OH THE BLOATWARE.

-Only 1 hard drive dock. You'll want a decently sized SSD to hold all your files and games.

Other Thoughts: Quick tip. If you make the wise decision to upgrade the 5400 HDD included with this laptop, know that Windows 10 bases itself on a computer's motherboard. So if you Google up a Windows 10 ISO and make a Windows 10 bootable USB, it will seamlessly install Windows 10 on the new hard drive, no fancy cloning solution needed. BUT NOTE: Windows 10 will not automatically retrieve the drivers the laptop needs. There was a good 10+ that needed to be installed, including the NIC card driver. So no wifi 4 u. You'll need a wired internet connection to get that driver, then getting the rest of them is easy. Special bonus: this process gives you a fresh install, so bye bye bloatware.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks like expected

This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 (80NV0028US) Gaming Laptop 6th Generation Intel Core i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR5 15.6" Windows 10 Home 64-Bit

Pros: arrived ahead off time, is purring along fine.

Cons: the "slight" delay in load up but not that bad. (nitpicking)

Other Thoughts: I was hesitant in trying to get this because of some of the reviews mentioned but I got the box ahead of schedule and started to download the latest drivers. Nvidia would not download the drivers using their tool so I had to go to their site and get it from there. It may be that McAffee was blocking the port. This is now working fine with the 5400 RPM HD just barely slowing it down... Glad I picked this up

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 (80NV0028US) Gaming Laptop 6th Generation Intel Core i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR5 15.6" Windows 10 Home 64-Bit

Pros: Comes with the Intel 8260 2x2 wifi card. This question was asked by many but not answered, the good news is it comes fully loaded.
M.2 slot
16GB DDR 4
Skylake

Cons: 2.5" bay takes a slim HDD so my Intel 530 i was planning to utilize from the old laptop wont fit.
Slow HDD but going to fix that anyway.
Clam shell requires a bit of force to get it to part

Other Thoughts: The available M.2 slot ill purchase a SSD to take over the heavy lifting from the 1TB HDD
Brought with bitcoin thanks newegg.

The HD 530 initially failed the mathematical test as mentioned by another reviewer. A simple update of the graphics driver and also of Lenovo Solutions Center, re running the test the HD 530 passes all tests. Looks like it is a driver issue that has been addressed. So don't go sending back what is an awesome laptop for no good reason.

3 out of 5 eggsSent back for replacement

This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 (80NV0028US) Gaming Laptop 6th Generation Intel Core i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR5 15.6" Windows 10 Home 64-Bit

Pros: Great configuration
Performs brilliantly
Keyboard design is really good.
Speakers are wonderful IF they work(see below)
Graphics rendering is as what you expect. Not brilliant but more than good.
Anti-glare works good, but I think its a cheap anti-glare transparent plastic thing rather than the screen being as such.

Cons: First day after opening, there is a ticking sound every second and the speaker does not work when kept on a flat surface. When I pick it up, the speaker magically starts working and the ticking sound stops. Searched a lot on google and found this issue for many lenovo laptops. Lenovo hasnt fixed this yet. I expect Lenovo to have fixed this earlier.

Also, unable to login to Nvidia for driver update. Searched online and found that this is because the graphics driver has not been installed properly.

So sent back to newegg for replacement. Waiting to hear from them.

2 out of 5 eggsReturned Lenovo Y700

This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 (80NV0028US) Gaming Laptop 6th Generation Intel Core i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR5 15.6" Windows 10 Home 64-Bit

Pros: First off, let me say this is a beautifully made machine. It is truly one of my favorite looking laptops out there right now. I did not want to return this machine, it had everything I wanted, minus a SSD. The build quality that Lenovo did in the Y700 was exceptional.

Cons: However, contradicting my pro's that I listed on this machine, I was very upset when the LENOVO SOLUTIONS CENTER was constantly failing after the first day of unpacking and loading the machine. This was not due to Lenovo's hardware or software, but due to a bad MATHEMATICAL OPERATIONS TEST on the INTEL530GPU chip that runs the standard graphics. The computer would freeze up and black out every 20 minutes while scrolling up or down through a website. Lenovo is already aware of the issue, and Intel is in the process of determining if it is a hardware issue on the GPU or a software issue. However, NEWEGG has been excellent in my return, and they are aware of the issue as well. Bravo NEWEGG for taking care of your customer so quickly, and I am now happy and settled in on my new machine.

Other Thoughts: Quality control needs to be more precise and accurate between Lenovo and Intel, especially on an important part of the architecture in running the computer.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's a no-brainer.

This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 (80NV0028US) Gaming Laptop 6th Generation Intel Core i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR5 15.6" Windows 10 Home 64-Bit

Pros: Bang-for-the-buck - Best system around for $1k (w/ promo code). Too many Pros to list, see below.

Cons: 1) The two USB 3 ports & HDMI port are on the right side, which gets in the way a bit for right-handers that prefer to use a mouse.
2) It would be nice to have four USB 3 ports with HDMI 2.0 and/or DisplayPort, but HDMI 2.0 is very rare right now (makes it possible for 60Hz @ 4K resolution w/ a TV that also has HDMI 2.0).
3) I purchased two extra generic power adapters for $25 apiece, and they power the unit but the battery won't charge (it discharges).

Other Thoughts: Why I purchased this unit, after quite a bit of research, drawing from over 30 years' computer experience:

Latest gen quad-core i7 w/ 33% faster memory; combined with a very respectable GPU, this system is optimal for video editing, gaming, etc.

Much-improved cooling system over previous models, as (now) their best gaming laptop draws in air from below and flows out the back, which makes the CPU and GPU run quite a bit cooler, as shown by one youtube video author. When a computer system gets too hot it throttles down, and since this system doesn't have a cooling issue, the components will last longer, and you'll always get the best performance. I've had this unit a week, it's quiet and has never felt hot.

Much-improved trackpad vs. previous models (a fairly common complaint), improved surface for typing on, excellent keyboard tactile response, nice red accent lighting for finding your keys in the dark.

Speakers send Dolby JBL sound towards you instead of upwards due to the new design.

Bottom of unit is no longer plastic (magnetic aluminum chassis).

15.6" FHD screen = more DPI vs. 17.3" FHD model, making it sharper; it's backlit, and not a touchscreen (which adds to the price).

Battery life improved with the Skylake CPU; for a gaming rig, it's pretty darn good. Five hours of regular use is attainable.

Comes with an external DVD burner, if comparing prices elsewhere check if the optical drive is included.

High-end graphics w/ 4GB RAM (not the 2GB version)... The faster 970m and 980m GPUs command a large price premium; The 980m is approx. twice as fast as the 960m, but the 960m, combined with the components in this laptop, is plenty fast enough for serious gamers; hard-core gamers w/ a bigger budget may want to opt for a laptop with faster graphics as there are some demanding games that you won't be able to set for highest/ultimate settings with the 960m.

Easy to upgrade the hard drive to SSD and/or add the latest m.2 SSD for seriously fast data transfer. There's 11 screws on the bottom, and it pries apart easier than most laptops. If you invest in an m.2 SATA drive, you'll need a very small screw. I found one that fit from my previous (and dismantled) laptop. Upgraded to Win 10 Pro, installed on an m.2 SATA drive, replaced the HDD with an SSD, and use the SSD for backup and storage. The HDD was put into an external USB 3 enclosure for external 1TB storage. System backups (from m.2 to SSD) take about two minutes for 20GB. It's even faster when reading from the SSD and writing to the m.2; for video authoring, one can have video clips to be worked with stored on the SSD to read from, and set the m.2 drive for the drive to write to.

Bottom line: Get this computer, you won't be disappointed. I can't speak for tech support, as I haven't used it. But online chat at Lenovo was helpful regarding questions I had. If you want the same unit, but speedier, and don't want to take the computer apart, go for a 128GB m.2 SSD + 1TB

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop, Poor Hard Drive

This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 (80NV0028US) Gaming Laptop 6th Generation Intel Core i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR5 15.6" Windows 10 Home 64-Bit

Pros: The laptop is great, extremely fast processing and the 16GB of DDR4 RAM is amazing to have at this price point. It also looks professional, which, for someone who has to use it at a business meeting table like me, is a major plus. It's lightweight for a 15" gaming laptop, and the battery life has impressed me at around 3.5 hours per charge. Plugged in, this has run games including FO4 at frame-rates and graphics settings I never thought a laptop could. Well done Lenovo. It was also nice that they sent a USB optical drive in the box.

Cons: One major con... the hard drive. Really Lenovo? I would have easily paid $50 more for this to come from the factory with a 7200 RPM drive. This thing takes forever to load from the stock 5400 RPM drive. Why?, just why... this is what knocked the egg off. I now have to clone the contents of this drive onto not only a 7200RPM drive, but a boot drive of an SSD. This has shot the cost up.

Also, all of the stupid Lenovo software solutions are too much. takes a good minute to boot from being off.

Other Thoughts: If you are in the market for a budget friendly, powerhouse of a machine, this is it. I replaced a MacBook Pro, and I am not going back. This is awesome! Runs all of my games (FO4 included) far better than my expectations, but looks nice enough for large business meetings. Thank you Lenovo!

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing laptop, very happy

This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 (80NV0028US) Gaming Laptop 6th Generation Intel Core i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR5 15.6" Windows 10 Home 64-Bit

Pros: This is my first notebook in about 10 years. Run a very powerful destop. This Lenovo is so well built. Very impressed. Palm rest is just phenomenal, attention to detail, aluminum chassis from top to bottom. Styling is awesome, sound, performance.

Cons: None really.
Windows 10, but give it time for improved drivers.
But going to stick with windows 10 here, they support my FLAC's!
Wish the battery life was better but 5-6 hours really not bad at all with a laptop of this power

Other Thoughts: Thank you Newegg for an amazing deal first of all. Can't believe the price I paid for a superior product. Absolutely love it. And wow, 1 day shipping, amazing! Couldn't be happier with my purchase, highly recommended.
