2 out of 5 eggsDo not buy !

This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 (80NV00JNUS) Gaming Laptop 6th Generation Intel Core i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD 256 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR5 15.6" Windows 10 Home

Pros: Looks way to cool, on paper

Cons: Hardware will fail you

Other Thoughts: I wish i could have loved this laptop. Everything seemed so good, but.

Out of the box, test hardware. Visual driver failed test. OUT OF THE BOX !!! Why is this not tested in the factory.
Thos happened to a lot of people, so i update driver, things kinda sort themselves.
One week later, restart pc, black screen, motherboard dead.
Currently trying to get a refund or exchange... but i dont have the original box and foam, if they just gave me a broken pc and steal my money ill be really mad.
This pc is just to risky to buy, im also traveling a lot, so shipping stuff and waiting to get them is not what i like to do, ill probably be gone when it come back... if they change it.
1600$ down the trash ty

2 out of 5 eggsSeems great... at first.

This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 (80NV00JNUS) Gaming Laptop 6th Generation Intel Core i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD 256 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR5 15.6" Windows 10 Home

Pros: - Pretty
- Solid structure. Feels sturdy.
- Nice metal brushed surface.
- Sound quality is nice.

Cons: - Screen randomly shuts goes black. Not responsive and needs to be rebooted in order for the screen to come back on.
- Keeps defaulting to the on-board Intel HD Graphics card instead of using the dedicated graphics card.
- Unable to update the NVIDIA graphics card using the NVIDIA Experiences panel.
- Track pad sometimes stops working forcing me to reboot the machine.
- The keys feel too close together.
- Has a LOT of bloat-ware. Their photo app takes up almost 700 MB alone.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy this product if you need it for any purpose other than just looking at it.

4 out of 5 eggsGood product. Too much Bloatware.

This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 (80NV00JNUS) Gaming Laptop 6th Generation Intel Core i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD 256 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR5 15.6" Windows 10 Home

Pros: Fast (Skylake i7)
Quiet(Little to no noise during average use)

Cons: Too much bloatware. Prepare to uninstall a few programs.
Not much else as of yet.

Other Thoughts: Rated at 4 eggs due to lack of use and time will tell if it deserves that fifth egg.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Laptop -

This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 (80NV00JNUS) Gaming Laptop 6th Generation Intel Core i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD 256 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR5 15.6" Windows 10 Home

Pros: I am really enjoying this laptop. I purchased it to run 3D design software, electronic simulators, and other science related software. I will start with the boot time for Windows 10. I press the power button and 14.3 seconds later I have logged in and using the computer. This is with all my software loaded from my old computer. My 5yr old Dell laptop took over 3 minutes to fully load all of my startup programs. The screen is very nice in my opinion. The contrast is very good and he viewing angle is very wide. 3D CAD objects and design software appear very clear. I have Core Temp installed and the CPU temperature is above 40C which is nice. The backlit keyboard is easy to use and the keys have a very positive click when pressing the keys. I like the feel of the keyboard compared to other laptops. Performance of my applications is excellent. I have not run any benchmarks to provide actual numbers. My applications load very fast and have no hesitation when running.

Cons: I wanted to look at the BIOS settings and the machine boots so fast it took a few boots for the F1 key to be recognized so I could look at the BIOS. I had the same issue trying to go into Safe Mode so I finally just changed MSCONFIG to get Safe mode loaded.

Other Thoughts: I listen to a lot of instructional videos from various website. The JBL speakers on this laptop are excellent. I have more volume than I have ever had on a laptop. The position of the speakers allows them to project a tremendous amount of clear sounds. Overall I am extremely pleased with the Y700. I have been a Newegg customer since 2007 and have always been pleased with my purchases and Newegg service. Once again they have exceeded my expectations.

4 out of 5 eggsTerrific hardware combination - FAST!!

This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 (80NV00JNUS) Gaming Laptop 6th Generation Intel Core i7 6700HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD 256 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4 GB GDDR5 15.6" Windows 10 Home

Pros: Lenovo did a great job of implementing this hardware combination - all the components function well together, no driver issues so far.
This laptop is built on a solid frame, has a nice feel, and the 'fit and finish' is much improved over previous Lenovo models. The key board is nice for a laptop, almost no flex and the key travel feels nice. The touchpad is smooth and precise, another big improvement over previous models. I opted to not get the model with the 4K resolution touch screen, as most mobile graphics solutions won't run games at 4K, and a lot of productivity apps don't scale correctly yet at 4K. I'm not going to split performance benchmark hairs here... the SSD loads Windows and apps FAST, and the NVIDIA graphics solution is great for a laptop in this price range. The 16GB will be more than enough for our needs.

Fitted with both an SSD and a 1TB mechanical hard drive!

The trend in laptops lately has been the elimination of optical drives. Lenovo spent the extra effort and cost to include an external DVDRW, for those times when you just have to use a disc. This was a big plus for me.

The battery life in these machines has been reviewed as good, I haven't had a chance to test it myself yet.

I bought this mostly for my wife's general use. She is pleased, life is good!

Cons: As expected, this laptop came with Lenovo's pre-installed propriety bloatware/crapware programs, as is common for all the big computer companies. I was just going to uninstall it if I didn't like it. After reading about all the security issues Lenovo has had with their software over the last 2 years, I decided that all this stuff was getting uninstalled right away. It turned out to be a bit difficult as some of it was deeply embedded. I still don't quite have all of it gone.

The battery is internal, as opposed to the plug-in external battery packs that are common on a lot of laptops. This will require some extra effort if/when the battery needs to be replaced or upgraded. Lenovo doesn't list any replacements yet, but I do see them already available from a few other sellers. This was a minor concern for me.

The NVIDIA updater wouldn't connect to NVIDIA out of the box. I just downloaded it again and reinstalled it, no issues now.

This is just nit-picking, the four LEDs for power, hard drive activity, etc. are not visible when looking at the laptop from above. You have to lift the front edge or bend down to see the indicator LEDs. Lenovo should make these visible in the front edge of the palm rest.

Another nit-pick, I'm not sure how I feel about the anti-glare screen. The colors seem to be just a bit subdued under certain lighting conditions compared with a glossy screen. This is just a matter of personal preference.

Other Thoughts: This could easily have been a 5 egg machine, but the bloatware/crapware issue is costing Lenovo 1 egg on this one. Not everyone is going to want to deal with uninstalling all that stuff. However, knowing what I know now, I would still buy another one of these in a heartbeat - you can't go wrong with this hardware package. At the time I ordered it in January, this was a minimum $300 better value compared to competitors (Asus, Alienware, MSI, Dell) that were not quite as well equipped. New Egg even had a better price than Lenovo's own website. For some reason this one wasn't included in the free gaming mouse promotion - oh well.

Oh, and CHEERS to New Egg for positively responding to a pricing change issue that came up within 24 hours after I placed the order!
