3 out of 5 eggsAdequate

Pros: Lightweight, boots quickly, runs multiple programs well. The customer service at AVATAR is great.

Cons: The headphone jack didn't work from the start, I'm a student so I was more worried about being able to type, web search, etc. 11 months after I purchased it, the BIOS crashed. I sent it to AVATAR for an RMA. They fixed and shipped it back. I haven't had any BIOS trouble but a week later the headphone jack started acting funny again. I have to hold pressure in the center to get sound.

Other Thoughts: This is a good laptop for documents, and web searching. The hardware is lacking so I gave it a poor score.

1 out of 5 eggsSeriously not good.

Pros: Pros? It looked good on newegg. Spec wise, it was under price compared to similar spec'd laptops. Design is cool, keyboard is ok.

Cons: Everything.

HDD/SSD are dang slow. Tried putting Windows 7, and 50% of drivers supplied by them do not work. Trackpad no longer works.

Mini HDMI adapter on side REQUIRES 20min/day of NASA level precision of shimming for it to work.

Audio port, must be disconnected/broken from motherboard - all audio sounds like its under water.

SSD clocks in at 4mb/sec, which is about the speed of a Floppy disk. (no joke).

Blue screens daily. on both Windows 7 and 8.

Boot times are over 5min. serious issue there.

Manufacturer 1 year only covers small android devices? See their policy on their website. Saw that after.

I've had this laptop for only 2 months, and it is was and still is a huge mistake.

Other Thoughts: Overall, i'm pretty sure this place is ran outta an office suite - with the same level of warranty, and service.

I've reached out to newegg 59 days from purchase. (literally 1 month after warranty), and Newegg cannot do anything - and manufacturer cannot do anything.

Newegg offered me $15 gift card. Not even sure what that is going to do at this point. Maybe I can pay someone to shim that HDMI cable everyday. Or coffee while I wait for 10min boot times.

Overall, I've made a HUGE mistake with this laptop. Go with a BRAND NAME, and learn from my mistake.

I will say their service was quick, and attempted to be helpful with my questions about reformatting, drivers, issues, etc - but nothing in terms of just giving my money back so I can get a real laptop.

For once, Id RATHER have a 45min customer service wait, for it to be resolved - here, Customer service is readily available - but not able to actually do anything.

Don't get munsoned on this one.

2 out of 5 eggsNice while it lasted

Pros: Bought this for my daughter in high school. Great price for all the bells and whistles.

Cons: We've already been through two adaptors. The hard drive just failed and I'm a week outside the 1yr extended warranty I bought when purchased. Big bummer. Wouldn't buy again.

4 out of 5 eggsBang for your $$

Pros: Performance per dollar is really good. You're getting a lot of laptop for the price of a much lesser machine. An SSD is a major boon here, even though it's set up as cache initially.

Cons: A lot of people have had problems with the monitor, and I see where they're coming from. My display works fine, but has little vertical lines all over it. You don't see them if you're not looking, but they're annoying, nonetheless.

I reinstalled the OS, using the SSD as the boot drive. When the HDD spins up, you hear it. It doesn't have any problems yet, but I wouldn't be extremely surprised if it develops some.

The biggest con for me is the mouse pad. I really wanted to use some flavor of Linux on this machine, but as far as I can tell, there's no way to get the mouse pad fully working. It has basic functionality, but no scrolling, no gestures, no multi-touch. I've tried every fix I can find, but none of them work. It works fine in Windows 8, so for now I'm using that.

Other Thoughts: I was able to pick this machine up at an extremely reasonable price. At that price I was hesitant, considering the mixed reviews and unknown brand name. At the current price, I would be more hesitant. If it drops as low as it was again however, I would recommend buying it in a heartbeat.

2 out of 5 eggsDo not buy

Pros: -Nice specs
-Small and light
-Looks nice

Cons: -The trackpad is horrible. It doesn't detect your finger right away.
-The sounds quality is atrocious. Even with headphones in. Sometimes the vocals on a song don't even go through.
-The keyboard is really bad. You have to bash some of the keys. Especially in the corners. It's especially painful when entering a password and you don't know which letter didn't go through. I do not recommend typing a document, or anything for that matter, on this laptop.
-Sometimes it refuses to come out of sleep mode and I have to do a hard reboot.
-Sometimes takes up to 5 minutes to turn on.

Other Thoughts: I've used this laptop for a few weeks now and I'm finally fed up. This was my first experience with Windows 8. I tried it, hated it, and then tried to install Ubuntu. I couldn't be successful with doing so without some major alterations.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Ultrabook For The Price

Pros: The specs are very good for the money. I needed something lightweight with long battery life, but it also had to have more than 4GB of RAM to run multiple VM's. This was one of the only ultrabooks to fit that bill and stay under $700. The build quality is amazing and it stays fairly cool even under stress. It comes out of the box with a 32GB SSD stick set up as cache... like some of the other reviewers, I easily installed Windows on the SSD using a USB drive and set up the 500GB HDD as a data drive. Still have 10+ gigs left for programs on the SSD also. Overall, I am very pleased with this unknown brand. I will update my review If I run into any issues down the road.

Cons: The touchpad takes some getting used to... Can't think of any other cons at the time.

Other Thoughts: I knew this going on, but the 720p screen looks dated if your used to 1080p. The colors and quality are good, but it's time we retired 1366x768 resolutions. Also, I would have liked another USB port.

1 out of 5 eggsIt's Cheap For A Reason

Pros: Guy trying to help me was very nice and pretty quick to replay. So, despite a poor product they at least TRIED to deliver.

RMA process was very quick.

Cons: The laptop itself. And I cannot speak for any of their other products, so I wouldn't necessarily judge them entirely on this laptop. That said, if you can't do one thing right then what does that say about your other products?

Laptop #1 - Arrived with a malfunctioning monitor which was determined to be a faulty cable. Returned via RMA.

Laptop #2 - Arrived with a faulty mouse pad. Returned via RMA.

Laptop #3 - Arrived with a faulty mouse pad. Gave up after three tries.

Newegg was kind enough to give me store credit and I will be going with a "name" brand.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat when it works

Pros: Very fast, clean lines-very sleek, extremely light

Cons: wire to screen is continuously disconnecting

Other Thoughts: I bought this 8 months ago as a present to replace an older much slower laptop. The thing worked great out of the box, but after about a month the screen just went dead. I sent it in for repairs(30+ dollars) and got it back. I was told it was a loose wire. Everything was great again, until month 4 when the same thing happened. Another 30+ dollars. Now it's month 8 and the same thing again. Not sure if I got a bad one or if it's problem with all of them, but I'm tired of sending it in for repairs!!!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Ultrabook

Pros: There are so many pros for this product:
-Price
-32GB Cache
-Thin
-Great Processor
-No Bloatware
-Good battery life
-Nice Screen Brightness
-Win 8
-2-finger scrolling

Cons: The only con I have run into is that when I hold shift, and the side of my right hand swipes from the right edge of the mouse pad, it prints a capital 'C' . Why, I have no clue, but it is getting me in the habit of being a better typist.

Other Thoughts: Obviously this is a Mac copy (down to having a proprietary plug for the , I'm not going to ignore it, but to get these stats (minus full SSD, and Screen Res) you're looking at well over twice the price.

2 out of 5 eggsDidn't even have a chance...

Pros: Sleek design and build
Compact
Light
Snappy little machine

Cons: Trackpad is glitchy at times
Windows 8 really shines on a touch screen style device, not a more classic laptop/ultrabook build, does not support certain hardware (mice, in this case)
HDD failed after 16 hours

Other Thoughts: This is a sexy, sexy machine. I wish I had been able to get to know it better. Unfortunately, after only 16 hours of ownership, the HDD failed, leaving my completely unable to boot or recover any files without then voiding the return policy. I don't believe this to be Avatar's fault, at least not exactly. With such a compact design, one good jolt during shipping could easily knock the drive and set it up for failure not far down the road. I do believe that was the case here. Thanksfully, NewEggs awesome customer service team issued an RMA right away, and she is now one her way back with a replacement soon to follow. I will update the review once I have had more time with the machine. In addition to the above, here's what I do know:

It has a beautiful design and clean lines. Throw in solid hardware and you have yourself a deal. As the other reviews mentioned, not running the OS from the SSD but using it for caching instead seems a bit odd. However, if you activate intel's accelerator feature, the machine becomes quite snappy. I suppose you could switch that up, if the SSD portion of the drive is accessible. (I have a feeling it's not, despite people mentioning this in other reviews.)

The trackpad is touchy. Sometimes it takes a moment to respond, requires a light touch, but later a heavier hand. Just overall not that great. Unfortunately, Windows 8 isn't compatible with a number of wireless usb mice, which can only add to the frustration here. The keyboard is fine, though sometimes a bit glitchy as well, but I can't confirm if that was only in certain MS apps or an overall issue.

My other complaint is the giant red power button that is basically integrated into the keyboard. A much better placement would have been along the top of the keyboard in line with the indicator lights. Instead, it's immensely susceptible to accidentally being struck when seeking delete, backspace, etc.

I did not have the loud drive issues that other people mentioned. Yes, you could hear the drive spinning up, but you're not dealing with an exclusively SSD machine, and with everything is such a compact casing, there is bound to be some noise. It's not uncomfortably loud by any means. The casing itself keeps this ultrabook quite cool, so you never have to worry about having a hot machine on your lap or excessive fan noise.

Windows 8 is an interesting experience to say the least. It's not the most intuitive OS out there, but we can all use a challenge now and again. Once you orient yourself, it's not too tricky. I have to admit though, it doesn't serve well on a non-touch screen product.

I will, of course, amend my review once the replacement arrives. I hope to be impressed!
