Windows 8.1

belkin case

Power up your new Windows tablet or PC and you can get into the flow right away. Windows 8.1 starts up faster, switches between apps faster, and uses power more efficiently than previous versions of Windows, including Windows 7. The key is to explore the corners and edges, where you'll find most of the things you do most often, like switching between apps, sharing things with friends, and adjusting your settings. You'll soon be zooming along from work to play and back again — or doing both at once. If your PC is running Windows 7, your files, apps and settings will easily transfer to Windows 8.1.

Preinstalled with Microsoft Office 365 with full versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote, the Vulcan Excursion XB offers perfect productivity solutions for both school and work straight from the box.

2 out of 5 eggskeyboard failure 1 week past warranty

Pros: - price
- convenient design
- resolution is acceptable

Cons: - poor keyboard layout - missing important keys (like print screen): no right-click button on touch pad (left tap works)
- virtually impossible to access the BIOS
- must hold power button a long time before it starts
- problems with communication between BIOS and OS regarding power features - reboot never works: system must be hard booted (for one of the two units I bought)
- keyboard has failed just a week past the warranty period - how convenient!

Other Thoughts: If you can afford to purchase a better unit, I suggest buying a recognized and established name brand.

5 out of 5 eggsPrice and Use ability - office school use

Pros: Windows 8.1
Price and for general use perfect fits for web browsing, email, ... of course, not for heavy gaming. My wife love it, I like it too. When I got this tablet, the price low $110.00.

Run all MS office, OpenOffice and adobe reader (protection password pdf work on this), no lagging. (I don't think good idea to upgrade to Win 10)

the speed much better than quad-arm cpu tablet.

Well you don't want to install Server or heavy game on this little tablet :-) or Run BI.

Cons: no-cons, not for Windows 10

Other Thoughts: Get a 64GB Micro-Flash storage.

4 out of 5 eggsOK for the price

Pros: I got this on impulse as a travel computer. I think of it as a ChromeBook alternative (similar specs, but running Windows) that can work as a tablet. I've had it for about 3 months and just upgraded to Windows 10 with no problems. It runs all my programs more than adequately. I've used it with a Wacom tablet and a VGA adapter to give presentations and with GoToMeeting to do web presentations. It's not the fastest machine around, but for the price, I didn't expect it to be.
I use it primarily as a laptop with bluetooth keyboard and mouse (see cons, below).
I can't comment on service or support because I've never had any problems.
Others have commented on the proprietary power supply: the nice thing is that it allows you to have power *and* connect USB peripherals at the same time. Interestingly, although it's rated as 9V, it functions perfectly well with a standard USB wall wart and a cheap USB to barrel plug cable available on-line. It really wants a 2A wall wart, but I can even recharge it with a 1A supply.
Battery life is decent; I've never run it down, but it looks like about 6 hours on a charge for writing and light web surfing with the screen brightness about halfway down.

Cons: The keyboard / trackpad is *horrible*. It's a very lightweight cover, but that means that the keyboard flexes like crazy and it has limited key travel. Making it worse is that the layout is awkward at best (I keep hitting the up-arrow when trying to get the shift key) so that I have to resort to two-finger typing. The trackpad is tiny and has miserable response. I have several BT keyboards and mice, and with those it makes for a very nice system

Other Thoughts: I actually like it and will probably use it to replace my old Acer laptop for travel. In addition to the system itself, I have the following:
- A 64GB ultra-high-speed microSD card to store programs and data
- A mini-HDMI to VGA adapter (most of the projectors I encounter are VGA)
- A USB hub (there's only one USB port on the system)
- A USB to barrel plug cable plus 2A USB power supply
- A good BT keyboard and mouse

I really can't comment on it as a tablet. I confess that I don't like Windows tablets in general; that may be because I cut my teeth on 7 - 8" Android tabs and I find this one awkwardly big.

1 out of 5 eggscheap quality stay away

Pros: tablet part worked great, keyboard part would not work but i did not use it anyway

Cons: died 3 weeks past 90 day warranty period.
has an odd sized 9-volt charging port, could not find a replacement if ever needed one.
positively no customer service.
cheap electronics junk--you get what you pay for i guess.

Other Thoughts: you can buy a name brand for the same price

1 out of 5 eggsVery Unhappy.

Pros: It's a cheap Windows 8 tablet. Bright screen. Worked right out of the box, for a limited time.

Cons: The stand/keyboard is awful. Ended up not using it at all because of how flimsy it was.
After 3 months, it is completely dead. Will not charge. The charging port was tiny and proprietary so I didn't expect much. Waiting to hear back from Vulcan about warranty options, but after reading other reviews I will not hold my breath.

Other Thoughts: New Egg dropped the price by $20 the day after I purchased this and when I contacted them for a price match I never got a response.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product-Great Service

Pros: Windows 8.1 OS, 1year free MS Office, Quality Product, Great Support & Great Price

Cons: Same con as most tablets/2 in 1s have: Non user serviceable battery & no local in-person interface.

Other Thoughts: The way to access a product/service is how it responds in a time of crisis/adjustment. When my unit required battery replacement, Vulcan went above and beyond to address the matter in a prompt and complete manner. The necessary return most tablets would require transpired in an expeditous & seamless process. Having nearly 20 years of past IBM experience, I have seen nothing better.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't waste your time or money on this product

Pros: Nothing good about this tablet

Cons: Right out of the box, the unit would lock up and turn off for no reason that I could discern. This before it stopped charging. Vulcan told me after I sent it back that the charging port was damaged and they would not honor a warranty because of this. Now I could see if oh for example I cracked the screen, or drop kicked the tablet out of the third story window of my office. But I did nothing other than USE THE DARN THING FOR THREE WEEKS! Do not buy this tablet, take a look at the HP x2. It has very similar specs, very close to the same design on the case (built in stand) and somewhat better price, and it's HP a brand we know and love (or at least I do.)

Other Thoughts: I'm sorry Vulcan, if you make a flimsy power port DON'T FLAKE ON YOUR WARRANTY WHEN IT STOPS WORKING! Total waste of money, now I have a black plastic paperweight that cost me $200! Thanks for nothing ya jerks!

1 out of 5 eggsUtterly terrible.

Pros: Small. Had potential.

Cons: From the beginning, the disk & memory usage would spike above and beyond the viewable range in perfmon. Within 2-3 minutes of powering on, the tablet will freeze. OS is not the issue. This is a hardware issue. Bad memory. No way to replace. I'm stuck with a 10.1" paperweight.

4 out of 5 eggswhup review update

Pros: See my list of pros in last review...tons of them

Cons: I did just fine one flaw. It is the front facing camera. It is a very low resolution and that makes for poor picture quality for any video calls

Other Thoughts: Rear facing camera is much nicer
