2 out of 5 eggsGreat while it works, but a gamble with short warranty (90day)

Pros: Snappy enough as a general tablet, capable of multitasking, and also supports mini-HDMI out, which is good for connectivity purpose to big TV without resorting to casting or streaming.

Speaker volume is very good, and also has built-in GPS for offline navigation. Battery life is really good, unless you suffer from rogue app that wakelock and drain down as as result.

ROM community is thriving and strong with 5.0 Lollipop already out, as long as you don't mind rooting and reading on XDA-Developers.

Cons: Unfortunately, the refurbished process is a hit-and-miss. You may get a perfectly fine working sample, or ones with blemishes or defects. My own copy has fine noticeable scratches from day one, which I decided against exchanging as everything else work.

However, it started exhibiting issue with audio out jack no longer transmitting sound lately. After contacting manufacture for warranty clarification, I was told it's 90-day as the official policy. So mine is past the warranty coverage now at around 7mo mark. That being said, if you are just a few days past the 90-day, definitely contact Hisense as the phone rep sounds fairly decent and helpful.

In the end, buyers beware on Hisense refurbished electronics!

4 out of 5 eggskids love it

Pros: good picture. all my apps work. micro sd slot and hdmi. price is good for a tablet that everyone can enjoy

Cons: when charging touch screen does'nt work properly; so cant play any games while tablet charges. So far that is the only problem I have found. no warranty so its probably not made to last.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Runs smooth.
Has a clear picture.
Charges quickly (when it did charge).
Solid feel.

Cons: USB port died and product can no longer be charged. Warranty for refurbished is only 30 days.
Loaded with un-installable bloatware.

Other Thoughts: We have 3 of these in our house. 1 bought new and 2 refurbished ones. The refurbished ones both have the same USB charging problem while the new one doesn't. If you are not offered a rebate or the price is more than 1/4 it's original tag, I advise not buying as you will most likely have problem.

4 out of 5 eggsSo far so good.

Pros: Specs on this guy are amazing for the price. If your willing to take the risk this should run android 5 without issue. (btw i got this for $89 with $20 mail in rebate)

Cons: First one had to be returned. The charging/ USB port didn't work properly.

Other Thoughts: Test all functions as soon as you get it. Go over it with a fine tooth comb. be extra careful with the Charging/USB port. They tend to be the week spot from what i have read.

4 out of 5 eggsWorking great thus far

Pros: I picked up the refurbished variation with rebate for around $56 (quite the steal). Everything with the tablet is working well thus far. Seems pretty responsive and has some really nice features for the price. Wifi, charger, audio jack, and micro charging port are all working fine at the moment. Hopefully they continue to work well for a long time. I'll update the review if anything breaks prematurely.

Cons: The box that the tablet came in was beat to hell (literally smooshed/flaking/colors were washed out). Not the mailing package, but the sero box. The actual tablet and charger were in good condition though. I was initially worried seeing the shape of the box...but was all good on the inside. Taking off one star for the initial scare.

Not sure if the non-refurbs come with a paper manual, but this one did not. Manual wasn't really needed anyway, and was easily found as a PDF online just for the sake of it.

Other Thoughts: Seems like a great bang for your buck tablet. I just finished all the Newegg rebate stuff, so hopefully I get that rebate as advertised. I'll update if i never get it.

5 out of 5 eggsNexus 7 Killer Indeed!

Pros: I just upgraded from a Nexus 7 2013 Wifi tablet to this tablet, and I already see some major differences. This tablet is much more responsive than my Nexus was when I play games and read my comics on the highest quality setting using my comic apps (and I bought the Nexus brand new and this tablet refurbished) and it's so nice to finally have a micro SD card slot (my old tablet was internal storage only).

Another thing that I appreciate about buying from this website is that when I purchase something that is refurbished, when I take the electronic device I've bought out of the box, it looks and works as if it were brand new, which totally applied to this tablet.

Cons: The cameras aren't anything special since it's 5MP in the back and 2MP in the front, so the photos I've tried taking with it are pretty pixelated. Especially when using the front camera, but that's to be expected considering the specs, and 5MP is pretty standard for most cellphones and tablets. It would have been nice if they were able to put a 5MP camera in the front as well, though.

Other Thoughts: If you're debating whether to get a Nexus 7 tablet or this Hisense Sero 7 Pro, go with this one! You get more features at a lower price, and it doesn't lag when you unlock it on the lock screen or when you try to open up or perform tasks in most apps.

If you're looking to play Hearthstone, watch movies, and read ebooks/comic books on a tablet, this is a pretty good and affordable one to do it with. I got mine on sale here at a fraction of the cost of my Nexus 7.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat tablet, for a while

Pros: Really decent display
Fast processor
Compatible with all the apps I wanted

Cons: Glitchy
Build is not the best
Stopped working reliably eventually

Other Thoughts: Bought this a while ago. Really liked it. Then it stopped connecting to the internet, would hang every time I tried to start up, shut down randomly. Did several factory resets and finally shoved it a drawer somewhere to salvage for parts, as it was past warranty. Pulled it out the other day to take a look? Low and behold it was working fine. Downloaded some apps, was thrilled to get my fave cheap tablet up and running again. 45 minutes later? No internet again.

i have done several hours of research to find a solution and discovered that this is just a thing they do after a while. Especially the refurbished ones from newegg.

5 out of 5 eggsHisense Sero 7 pro

Pros: This is my first buy from newegg and was very pleased when I received the product. So far nothing to complain with this. The HDMI is what I like most because I can connect it to my big screen tv. The sound is good and the display.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I do not know why some people has so my complaints about this produnct when I do not have any. I ordered as refurbished but what I got was good as new. No scratch at all.

5 out of 5 eggsBest tablet in the sub-$100 range by far

Pros: +Price
+Accurate touch screen
+High quality screen w/ good viewing angles
+Auto adjust brightness with a sensor
+Two cameras
+Stereo speakers
+HDMI out
+Up to 32 GB SD card
+Can be easily rooted
+Tegra 3 CPU and GPU quite powerful even for 2014
+Insanely good battery life thanks to a 5th core
+Flash which can be used as flashlight
+7" screen size is perfect for portability

Cons: -This version of Android does not support BT controllers

(That is literally the only thing that I don't like)

Other Thoughts: My first tablet was the Ipad 2 which is the standard that I compare all other tablets to. Before the Sero 7 pro, I bought the Sero 7 LT. It looks a lot like the pro but it is nothing like it at all in terms of functionality. The LT has a much slower dual core CPU although the GPU in it rivals that of the Tegra 3 when gaming. Other than the GPU, the LT is inferior in every way. It has a battery that drains in about 3 hours when used even lightly and if left off the charger when idle, it drains completely in less than a day. It has an intermittent touch screen with poor viewing angles and a lower resolution. It lacks several features such as bluetooth, GPS, a rear camera, NFC and stereo speakers.

Compared to the ipad2, the Pro is faster and has almost all the same features save for screen size and internal storage. It also has several features that the ipad 2 does not such as HDMI out, SD card and flash. The Pro only has 8 GB of storage but only about 5 GB is usable since the OS and pre-loaded apps are on it. If you root this tablet, you can use a little $5 or so app called "Folder Mount" which allows you to transfer any app in its entirety to the SD card. I am currently using a $12 Samsung Evo 32GB micro SD card which completely saturates USB 2.0 speeds and the apps on it run very quick and smooth off it. Also thanks to rooting, I installed an app called "System App Remover" which allowed me to remove all the Hisense and Google bloatware on the tablet which freed up space for me to install apps that I actually use. I also didn't like the fact that the soft keys took up space on the bottom, but again thanks to rooting and the app "Auto Hide Soft Keys", the soft key bar disappears making the screen fuller. To enable the bar, one simply has to swipe up near the bottom. And, finally, I did not like the standard Sero 7 launcher which is cluttered and littered with advertisements. You can easily install a different launcher (no rooting needed) and since I am used to the ipad 2, I chose "One Launcher +" which looks exactly like iOS 8 and functions exactly like it complete with the lock screen and sub folders. Stock and unmodified, this tablet is a decent one for the price and functions quite well. Rooted and modified with everything I did to it, this is easily the best sub-$100 tablet out there and rivals tablets 2x to 3x its price. If the Sero 8 Pro is as good as this, I will definitely be upgrading to that when it comes out on newegg before I consider a new ipad.
