1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Clean simple design. Like the cord storage. Very quiet.

Cons: On my gaming 17" laptop it had ZERO effect on the internal temperature as reported by "Piriform Speccy" program. 72C before and after!

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Choice

Pros: The fan is quieter than I expected. Even after running it for hundreds of hours, its still quiet. Not silent, but barely audible (~50dB at 10mm full speed).

It does a GREAT job keeping my lap cool when using my laptop on my lap. Very comfortable underside for lap use.

The pass-thru USB port is a fairly standard feature for cooling pads, but nonetheless helpful.

There are rubber feet on the bottom side which secure the cooling pad nicely to tabletops/desks.

The workmanship and finish is very good.

Cons: When I tilt the cooling pad, my laptop slips fairly easily. Its because the rubber feet of my laptop are smaller than the cooling pad air holes. I'm considering to add a few pieces of adhesive rubber strips to the top surface.

Other Thoughts: The USB cable supplied to connect the laptop to the cooling pad is a bit too long. It would be nice to use a 4 inch USB cable, or a retractable USB cable.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's functional, I guess.

Pros: - It's sturdy and well-designed. Likely to last quite awhile.
- Adjustable fan speed.
- Adorable storage space.
- Good tilt angle.

Cons: - LED is pointless.
- Even on maximum speed, the fan provides very little airflow. This alone makes everything else irrelevant since all I NEED is to keep my laptop cool.
- The USB cord that supplies power to the device is fairly short.

Other Thoughts: If I was buying a laptop stand/mount, I would be quite content.
However, I wasn't, and therefore am not content.

Recommendation: If you're only worried about your machine getting warm, this isn't a terrible choice. If you're worried about your laptop overheating, as I am, don't buy this product.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great for my laptop

Pros: I've been using this on and off for about 6 weeks and have definitely put it through its paces. It seems a little flimsy right out of the box but oddly enough, it's holding up really well. I tend to be pretty hard on things that I get to review.

I've thrown it around haphazardly and generally been pretty hard on it without any damage. It cools my Dell laptop without issue utilizing the large 200mm blue LED lit fan. I saw a 2 degree drop according to SpeedFan.

As others have indicated, the fan contains two USB ports to compensate for the one that you lose. I also like the fact that the device tilts the laptop at a slight incline, similar to a keyboard. The fan is large enough to accommodate the vent position on most of the laptops I've seen and the LED is the correct brightness for me. It gives my desk a nice subtle glow when I turn on the LED and I'm not in a bright room. The device does include an ON/OFF switch so you can turn off the LED if you don't want it on.

The fan seems to flow a good bit of air, as indicated by my high tech "stick your hand in front of the fan" sensor. I didn't notice a battery drain associated with its use, but my usage is pretty sporadic and I try and charge on a regular basis when I'm in the office.

Cons: The packaging indicates it will fit a 17" laptop, but I'm not 100% sold on that point. Unfortunately, I only have a 13" and a 15.6" for testing. It just seems like 17" might be a tad too big, but don't hesistate to buy it based on is comment.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for some additional cooling, from a durable, nice looking device that won't kill your battery look no further. At a reasonable price point, this is the device you want. I would definitely recommend this to my clients.

4 out of 5 eggsGood, but expected more

Pros: Quiet, adjustable fan (very big plus)
USB powered, has a USB port to make up for the one you lose
Led can be turned off - not that you really see it with a laptop on it

Cons: I honestly expected more cooling for my gaming laptop (Clevo W370SS), but another reviewer accurately pointed out that newer laptops have venting much closer to the hinges. Newer laptops also are better designed for airflow and cooling (it's cheaper to make a cooler laptop than to replace defects due to heat). This isn't worth deducting an egg for, just be aware where the intake venting is on your laptop and if the venting isn't in the center this may not perform well for you.

I only saw a 2c temp reduction with my laptop.

This cooler is also quite bulky, I can't imagine taking this thing with you wherever you go.

Also seemed to be a bit small for my 17" laptop, almost as if it would work best for 15.6" models.

Other Thoughts: It's kind of hard to judge the performance of this kind of product. Your notebook has temperature thresholds set for the fan speed which increases the fan speed based on how hot the cpu temp is. So you will only really be able to see the difference a cooler like this makes based on your max temps with a moderate to heavy cpu/gpu load. Having said that, at higher temps while gaming and other cpu intensive tasks over a prolonged period of time I saw only a 2c temp reduction with the fan on max (which occurs at 80c).

I did notice, however, that my laptop fan didn't seem to need to work as hard for lighter workloads (keeping in mind that even if the cooling pad fan is working effectively then the laptop fan will just stay at a slower rpm until a temperature threshold is reached - or will slow down if the temperature is lowered past a set temp). Cool down times from load to idle were also decreased.

Check the underside of your notebook and find your intake venting. If there are any vents located close to the center, your results will likely be better than mine.

4 out of 5 eggsNot for some newer styled laptops

Pros: Lightweight
Large Quiet Fan
Aluminum Top/Bottom
Supports up to 17" Laptops
Props the laptop up to a nice viewing angle
Keeps your legs cool as well

I couldn't really provide much more indepth pro's on the performance because my model laptop has a hinge intake/exhaust system and not a bottom or side system that would better utilize this mat. It seems like it would do a great job for laptops with other cooling options though due to the angle/size of the fan in relation to the laptop support.

Cons: Fan system does not cool every type of laptop
The plastic parts in between the metal top/bottom are very cheap feeling and if dropped seems like it would break.
This cooling pad is very thick and cumbersome

I have a laptop model in which the intake and output are located in the hinge of the laptop but still has some vent holes in the bottom of the laptop. This hinge style vent system on the laptop is incompatible with the cooling fan style. Newer, thinner, & more powerful laptops are adopting this new design so consider that before buying this mat. Evga X & Fallout New Vegas were played on the laptop on and off the mat for an hour each and it did not make any cooling difference the entire time. Just about the same temperatures on/off (45 degrees low and 66 degrees high). The only thing it did for me was keep my legs cool when it was on my lap.

Other Thoughts: Please make sure that your laptops cooling system is compatible with this model cooling pad before purchase.

4 out of 5 eggsLaptop cooler for desktop replacements

Pros: Nice economical decent looking kit for keeping your desktop replacement laptop cool. Powered by USB (comes with a male-male cord), it has adjustable fan speed via a on/off/speed wheel on the left side (think retro AM radio volume control). There is a separate push on/ push off little button to turn on and off the blue lights.

By powering it via USB, you have the option of plugging into your laptop directly so the fan (and blue light) will turn off when your laptop powers down. If you prefer, you can plug it directly into any usb charging brick (not included, but if you're like me, lots of em around.) Downside would be you need to remember to turn it off.

There are two USB ports, one labelled "in" the other "out" so you could charge your phone with it.

The large surface is well ventilated, and seems to have reasonable air flow. If your 17" i7 Quad core runs hot, this will help. Its not designed to put on your lap, though. I suppose you could use it that way, but seems awkward. It seems its best use would be on your desk.

My laptop doesn't have very soft rubber feet on it, so it slides around on the metal screen a bit, but not too badly.

Deepcool also makes/sells pc case fans, so you might expect the fan component to be of good quality. Its not loud at all, and I suspect if your laptop runs warm, you're more likely to hear your laptop's fan that this one.

Cons: The adjustable speed works. But I also suspect that if you need this, you'll be running it on highest setting -- still pretty quiet though.

The obligatory blue light is bright enough to provide some mood lighting to your dorm.

Other Thoughts: The cooler has a tilt to it, which may make typing on your laptop easier. If you don't already have a dock of some sort, this is also a nice way to reserve space on your desk - a nice permanent spot on your desk for your computer.

The fan itself is large (200mm) and is centered in the cooler, so it likely will feed your laptop's air intake if its roughly in the center. Even if it isn't, the surface of the cooler is mesh, and will likely provide better ventilation than just putting your laptop on the desk.

To sum it up: Got a big lappy? Run Hot? This is a nice economical, good looking solution for your desk.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks but not impressed

Pros: -simple design
-very little noise
-variable speed fan
-Has 2 usb ports. This allows you to power it and have a pass through so that you don't lose a port on your laptop.
-cheap
-LED can be turned off
-there is a slot to store the usb power cord on the back

Cons: -The fan provides little airflow. I would think since the fan is variable speed one would design it to go very fast and let the end user decide at what point it is too much noise.
-LED's are pointless
-the fan is small for the size of the unit
-not at all mobile

Other Thoughts: It is inexpensive but I can't help noticing DEEPCOOL's other products that appear to be better buys.
-1st there is the N180 for $10 less. You give up the variable fan speed and storge for the usb cord and the fan is a little smaller but it has a much higher rpm giving it greater airflow. The N180 also has 2 tilt positions.
-In the other direction for $5 more you can get a N25 or N9. Both offer all the features of N6000 and more along with greater airflow.

5 out of 5 eggsIt works

Pros: 1. Fits up to a 17" laptop
2. Large fan - quieter fan noise
3. Moves air well
4. Does make some difference in gaming laptop heat production
5. The LED can be turned off
6. Fan is variable speed
7. Uses a USB port, but gives two back
8. I like the angle that the device gives to the laptop keyboard

Cons: 1. The back is a straight tube and larger than the front.
2. Does little for normal laptops
3. Not great on your lap, there

Other Thoughts: I ran some stress test with the a gaming laptop. The stress test results were very similar (same), but with this device there was a 1 degree C or 2 degree F difference. This is not much, but as you approach the bleeding edge of your hardware, it can make real difference.

The fan is quiet. I could not hear the fan over the fans of the laptops themselves. In either of the two 15.6 in laptops or the 17 inch gaming laptop. The performance was rock solid all the way through.

The LED is just too much for me, but others might like it. I prefer a minimal look, and being able to turn it off is a plus.

The angle of the keyboard was nice, but not overly huge. This is a taste factor, but it is the way that I learned to type - yes a manual typewriter. For those of you who have never tried it, the angle of the keys was important (especially on manuals) because of how hard you had to hit. Hence the reason that I like the angle. It is old home week for me.

Final thoughts, this is not for the everyday computer uses. Most people doing word documents and surfing the net just will not find any advantage to this device. If you laptop burns your legs when you use it, or your demand more power, this device is for you.

I was surprised by one thing. My wife has taken over this device. She loves using it, even on her lap. She does not turn on the LED either, but I suspect that she also finds the angle appealing. Even thought she learned to type on a Apple IIC.
