5 out of 5 eggsPleasantly surprised

This review is from: DEEPCOOL M3 Laptop Cooling Pad 15.6" with 2.1 Speaker System 140mm Fan

Pros: - Speakers are loud and don't distort at higher volumes
- The small woofer actually produces some "thump" which is a nice added touch
- The fan cools quite well, and the fact that it's adjustable is even better (nice for when I play games)
- Looks are good to boot

Cons: - A bit bulky, but not overly so
- Sound from behind the laptop screen can very slightly alter the noise

Other Thoughts: Despite those two small cons, this a quality product at a great price. Brought new life to my aging laptop with speakers that had to be on full volume to hear anything adequately. Setup is simple and the product feels solid - not cheap at all. Would highly recommend anyone not satisfied with their laptop speakers to give this a try.

5 out of 5 eggsPretty good for the price

This review is from: DEEPCOOL M3 Laptop Cooling Pad 15.6" with 2.1 Speaker System 140mm Fan

Pros: The speakers are loud and can fill a decent size room. Even at high levels I didn't experience clipping. Sound was clear and not muddy at low levels.

Big improvement over laptop speakers. Even nice ones (mine are JBLs but I also tested with a Beats enabled laptop as well).

Fan was quiet and moved a decent amount of air. During gaming or even normal use my hands didn't get hot.

Price is really nice for what you get.

Not too heavy either given it's size.

Cons: I really wish I didn't have to run a separate (included) 3.5mm audio cable for the sound. Since you're already powering via usb, it would be nice to just have the audio come out via USB. That said, I'm sure that would cost more, but just a thought.

A little big, but not uncomfortable on my lap.

Other Thoughts: While not the most comfortable for laps, I still think this cooler has it's place. It cools well and the sound is really quite good. Having the speakers on the back side of the monitor can be a little annoying as it does slightly alter the sound a little, but not so much that it really matters.

My temps from cooling went down about an average of 8-10 degrees Celsius with the fan pushing cooler air directly into the intake fans of my laptop.

Overall a solid value and should be at the top of anyone's list.

4 out of 5 eggsBIG laptop cooler

This review is from: DEEPCOOL M3 Laptop Cooling Pad 15.6" with 2.1 Speaker System 140mm Fan

Pros: It does it's job, and it does it well. I use this with a laptop that runs particularly warm, and found that it ran much cooler when I had it on this. I used this while typing in bed on a blanket, and the laptop still ran much cooler.

I liked the control knob on the side, but I always ran it on the highest setting since it's quiet.

The speakers are a nice addition, even though it makes it a bit larger.

The addition of the USB ports is very handy, especially for laptops with limited USB ports on them.

Overall, it's pleasant to use, my laptop sits solidly on it while at the same time running much cooler.

Cons: My biggest con is sadly the result of how feature rich this cooler is. With the USB Ports, fan control, and speakers, this is a very large and THICK laptop cooler. I use a messenger bag laptop bag, and unfortunately this cooler and the 15.6" laptop wouldn't fit in together together.

It's a shame too, as this would be pretty great to bring around. You get two extra USBs, some pretty solid speakers, but all those nice features come at the trade off of size.

Other Thoughts: Unless you have a laptop bag that can comfortably accommodate this and the laptop, this is really better suited to strictly home/office use.

4 out of 5 eggsPrice is right for a solid laptop cooler with good speakers and extra connectivity

This review is from: DEEPCOOL M3 Laptop Cooling Pad 15.6" with 2.1 Speaker System 140mm Fan

Pros: Big fan that is fully adjustable via twist dial.
Speakers are certainly descent for the size.
Extra USB ports are great. Though really only adds 1, and 1 mini one.
It includes ALL the cables (USB and mini stereo to mini stereo) needed to make it work.
I like that it doesn’t need a power brick, yet another cable in the mix. So it’s clean and elegant there. But I am sure it you are only running off battery (and why would you be for this setup) It would certainly
Incline is nice for external keyboard or laptop’s keyboard use.
In testing, I put a laptop under 100% load and sitting flat on a desk, the fans turned on after 35 seconds. On the deck they turned on in 40 seconds, and with the laptop’s fan on high, they never turned on, or at least I stopped waiting for them to turn on, so it does indeed keep it cooler.

Cons: When the fan is going, it’s a small grinding noise. Not like a normal computer fan, or any fan that I’ve ever heard. If you are listening to something through the speakers, you will not hear the fan. Considering some case fans cost as much as this, I can forgive that.

Other Thoughts: If you are noise sensitive, the fan is a deal killer. That little buzzing noise would bother anyone eventually in a very quiet environment. I would give this 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 because it’s not expensive enough to demand perfection. If you are sick of your tinny laptop speakers, then you will certainly like this. The speakers are the best part of this laptop cooler and you won’t be disappointed. Much louder and better quality than even the “premium” laptop sound speakers.

4 out of 5 eggsMulti Function Cooler

This review is from: DEEPCOOL M3 Laptop Cooling Pad 15.6" with 2.1 Speaker System 140mm Fan

Pros: As far as laptop coolers go, this one is pretty nice. It's got a 140 mm fan with adjustable speed control. Regardless of the setting, the fan is quiet. barely audible.
What's really nice about this particular cooler is that it elevates your laptop and puts it on an incline. The benefit of that is it gives your laptop room to breathe and depending on how you're sitting, can make typing more comfortable. For anyone who sets their laptop on any kind of surface with fabric or pretty much any surface that's not flat and solid, it can severely restrict airflow to your laptops internal cooling fan. When that happens, it can really puts your laptop at risk of overheating. So using this cooler is a good precautionary measure for anyone using a laptop.
Another great feature about this cooler is it draws power via a USB port from your laptop. You also have an auxiliary power input in case you don't have any spare USB ports or you can use a powered USB charge station to supply power. It also has a secondary USB port to replace the port you sacrifice to power the cooler. It works just like any normal USB port. You can use it to power your mouse or even an external hard drive. It works well. I didn't notice any mouse lag or drop in bandwidth when transferring files.
What's unique about this cooler is it also has a very nice set of speakers onboard. 3 small speakers, stereo sound only of course. You can supply sound to the cooler using a 1/8 in. jack via your laptops headphone jack or if it has any other 1/8 in. outputs for front channel speakers. This coolers sound system is louder and sounds much better than the speakers on my laptop. I was pleasantly surprised when I cranked it up all the way the first time and there was no distortion or deviation in volume when there was loud bass.

Cons: The fan doesn't move much air. It does move some air, but for anyone with a laptop with overheating issues, this cooler wouldn't be a viable option. It would definitely help, but if your laptop gets really hot, you may want to consider a cooler that can move more air.
That's it, aside from that, I really like this piece of equipment. I'm glad I got one.

Other Thoughts: This cooler fits my laptop perfectly. My laptop is actually a little over 16 inches wide and it lines up perfectly with the cooler. Even if you have a 17 inch it will fit just fine. It may be little bigger than the coolers surface, but it really won't affect the performance at all.
This cooler is very reasonably priced, looks nice and is well designed. The speakers and fan are all protected.
I've never owned a laptop cooler before this one. I've always wanted to try one, but thought it wasn't really necessary since I rarely use it for gaming. But, even if your laptop doesn't tend to get hot there are good reasons to grab one of these. It's cheap, it will keep your internal fan from getting restricted on fabric and it has an onboard sound system. Good reasons to get one for anybody who owns a laptop.
I'm giving this cooler 4 eggs. If the fan moved more air it would be a much better cooler for gaming laptops and I would give it 5 eggs. They could have given it a better fan, it has speed control, it would only be loud if it was cranked up. So why not add a better fan and let the user decide how to set it? As it is, it's more of a cooling/sound system for the average user. For all of the practical features, I intend to keep this with my laptop at all times.
It wouldn't be difficult to add a different fan. If you're a tech savvy user, you could swap the fan out for a better one.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat cooling & quality for the price range

This review is from: DEEPCOOL M3 Laptop Cooling Pad 15.6" with 2.1 Speaker System 140mm Fan

Pros: Just as advertised the Deepcool pad is designed for 15 inch laptops and smaller. The setup is extremely easy; you just place the laptop on top of it and plug both the USB wire and the sound wire. Once that is done it draws its power from the laptop.

The sound quality from the speakers is great (look at con section for more details) and the cooling fan does the job it is meant to do. The bottom of the pad is smooth enough to even use the device while lying in bed and the fan is protected enough where nothing should get caught from underneath.

The fan RPMs are controlled by a knob on the left side of the unit where the USB ports are. Although the fan can be hear slightly it is not annoying loud. Your laptops fan is more than likely lewder than this units fan. This is part of the benefits of using a 140mm fan; it lets you get good air flow and low sound disruption.

The quality of the unit seems really good and does not feel cheap at all. This is surprising to me considering the price tag on the unit. Overall very light weight but feels real sturdy and of good quality.

Cons: If the laptop is open and you are playing music you can tell the sound is traveling around the laptop to get to your ears. If you close your laptop and let the music keep playing you can tell the difference immediately in the quality. This is a design problem with most laptop coolers and not just specific to this one. Hopefully one day they will figure out how to get the sound to travel around the laptop so you can’t tell the difference between the screen being up or down.

Other Thoughts: Very good for the price range!

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome!

This review is from: DEEPCOOL M3 Laptop Cooling Pad 15.6" with 2.1 Speaker System 140mm Fan

Pros: sound
cooling
output usb plug

Cons: No significant cons during my use.

Other Thoughts: The best part of the cooling pad/speaker combo is definitely the improved sound quality. Laptop speakers aren't the best, generally speaking and just plugging in the M3 more than quadruples the sound output!! Speaker plug-in uses laptop headphone plug-in (not taking up the coveted usb ports). However, there are two separate plug-ins for each feature and the fan plug needs a usb slot, but the M3 addresses this by providing a functioning output usb port (plugged my wireless mouse receiver into the "out" port and it's functioning properly). With the volume turned to max on the computer and the chosen media player, the sound did become distorted, however, when turned up to the maximum before distortion occurred, I was able to clearly hear the music and lyrics from approx 35 feet away (through walls and closed doors).

I Used for 2+ hours without being plugged in before battery was getting low - after this time, I noticed a significant temperature difference from my normal use without the M3...The control dial allows you to lower or turn off the fans, which even on the highest control setting are still relatively silent.

Obviously it's not weightless, but the added weight is not excessively noticeable; however a little "top heavy" on the speaker side. Makes my otherwise slim laptop a little bulkier to carry from one work spot in the house to another - not a serious issue.

The average user will be pleased with huge sound increase and cooling effects.

4 out of 5 eggsNice cooling pad

This review is from: DEEPCOOL M3 Laptop Cooling Pad 15.6" with 2.1 Speaker System 140mm Fan

Pros: This is a nice laptop cooling pad, has 2 usb ports and a micro usb port, nice 140mm size cooling fan.
Built in speakers that sound good for what they are, comes with speaker cable to connect to laptop and comes with usb cable.
built sturdy enough and looks nice too boot, cools laptops enough to keep that heat source down to a more minimal temperature.
Packaged well for shipping should mean you wont receive a damaged product when you receive it.

Cons: While I like this as designed for a 15.6 inch laptop I think it should be setup for a 17.3 inch laptop and usable for a 15.6 inch so you can have one cooling pad for either size laptop depending on what you have.

Other Thoughts: Overall I thought it to be a nice product that does the job it is designed for, and the built in speakers are a welcome bonus as most laptop cooling pads do not offer them.
It looks nice, sounds good, and cools well enough for it to be a laptop cooling pad that I would recommend to family, friends, or anyone looking for a nice laptop cooling pad.
So pick this up if you are in need of a decent colling pad for your high heat laptop.

5 out of 5 eggsDeepcool

This review is from: DEEPCOOL M3 Laptop Cooling Pad 15.6" with 2.1 Speaker System 140mm Fan

Pros: Lightweight, quite, good sound quality, keeps every notebook/laptop I have placed on this device cool. Plugs right in to any USB port and provides the needed cooling for the computer. This item especially great for older and newer model notebook or laptop computers with the cooling fan vent at the bottom of the device. This item can extend the life of AMD equipped notebooks/laptops. With the additional heat that comes from older AMD CPU this unit can easily dissipate the heat. I tried it on an AMD Mobile Turion 64 x2 RM-70 2.0GHz 1M s1 LP TMRM70DAM22GK CPU that normally heated up during regular use and the notebook bottom and keyboard stayed cool throughout the process. While the newer model AMD CPUs do run cooler, I recommend that the M3 be used with older AMD models. All Intel models were cooled very well. The price is also a plus for the M3.

Cons: No Cons at this time. This device does what it is intended to do.

Other Thoughts: Consider this as a must have item if you own an older single core notebook/laptop computer. No fancy bells or whistles, just a cooling pad that works.

3 out of 5 eggsNice Speakers... but...

This review is from: DEEPCOOL M3 Laptop Cooling Pad 15.6" with 2.1 Speaker System 140mm Fan

Pros: Gives a fair old bit of oomph to your laptop speakers. Cools the laptop… marginally (see other thoughts) although that will ultimately depend on the vents on the underside of your laptop. Extremely quiet, I had to lift my laptop to convince myself the fan was actually running. Nice design, the black goes well with my newly acquired laptop, HP Envy 15t-J100 Quad Core Edition, Intel HD 4000 graphics.

Cons: Apart from the ineffective cooling with my particular machine the only other con that springs to mind is the speaker thump you get when you open your laptop or switch it on, not nice, anti-thump circuits have been around for a long time.

Other Thoughts: With my laptop the cooling experienced was just about noticeable, 2 degrees Celsius at best. I monitored this with a thermocouple temporarily mounted in the laptop. I ran the laptop through a couple of Heavyload stress tests and kept an eye on the temperature. Heavyload doesn't particularly stress the graphics card but this laptop is a bit of a lightweight in that respect anyway. I think the lack of cooling I experienced is a lot to do with the position and size of the vents on the underside of the laptop with respect to the fans position on the cooler. On my Envy the vents coincide roughly with the position of the fan but are much smaller (about 50%) and wider (again about 50%), the fan is certainly moving air through the laptop as one thing I did notice is that my keyboard feels much warmer when the fan is on than when it isn't, which I don’t find pleasing. Still, with winter coming (if the Starks are to be believed) it may be a bonus! The cooling I am a little disappointed with but I’m going to have a go at reversing the fan direction to see if that will improve the situation. Out of curiosity I tried it on a 13” MacBook Air as well, no discernible effect on temperature, the Mac rarely gets warm anyway, but again the audio was good. Whatever is going on with the air movement it’s not enough with my particular laptop.

The M3 has no volume control and I noticed distortion kicking in at about the 40% level but that was way louder than I would normally use anyway. My laptop has beats audio (apparently that’s cool) but to be honest I usually have mine muted as this laptop is used in an environment with others close to hand. The improvement was particularly noticeable on bass heavy tracks, Cherry Oh Baby by UB40 is a good one to try, try it on your laptop speakers and then try it on your AV system.

A final thought, it would be nice to have the ports replicated on both sides with much shorter cables included, just for the sake of tidiness.

Overall I’m going to give this piece of kit 3 stars; as a cooler with my laptop it isn't great, but the speakers are a huge improvement over my laptop’s, in terms of volume and perceived frequency response.
