Pros: First thing I noticed about the DEEPCOOL N1 laptop cooler was the sleek design. The top mesh feels sturdy, perfectly flat, edges are rounded. The USB cord for powering the device can be hid away underneath and out of sight.

Included with the cooler is a set of 4 rubber pads. These are for sticking to the top of the metal mesh to prevent laptops from falling off. I have not tried these yet, but thought it a nice touch to include them for laptops either missing their rubber pads or if they are worn out.

The speed control is very handy, barely can hear the fan when it is all the way down and isn't too bad when cranked all the way up.

Cons: Do realize that this fan consumes power from the USB port. This means it will drain the battery slightly faster. Not really a con, but something people should realize.

Also realize that this fan does not register itself with the operating system and report how much power it consumes. Generally when plugging flash drives and other USB devices into a USB port, windows will track the power consumption of a port and ensure it doesn't consume more than 500mA. This fan will pull nearly 250mA (242 at full speed plus 10% variation stated in the specs). If you use this fan at full speed and plug say an external hard drive into the USB port on the fan, you will be pulling more than the 500mA and windows may not alert you. Some USB ports actually have current monitors on the ports and can shut them down, but I don't recommend relying on this alone.

Other Thoughts: This can be a great product so long as caution with the power is taken as explained in the cons. The only other consideration I would have is if the fan has a current limiter in it. If the fan should stall, you don't want it to pull too much current. I was not able to tell if this fan had such protections, but I feel it may not.

Pros: The DeepCool N1 NoteBook Cooler is a fairly decent laptop cooler compared to most laptop cooler in its price range. The N1 have a few nice features that others cooler do not have, like for instance the USB pass-through connector and a massive 180mm fan that has a manual speed controller and the metal mesh front cover, it is also height adjustable.

Cons: I really could think of no cone, for the money the N1 is a very nice quality cooler.

Other Thoughts: I ran a few test with the Deep Cool N1 NoteBook Cooler on my Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 (i7 & GTX660) and it droped the cpu temperature by 6 degrees Celsius, and the gpu by 10 degrees Celsius. I also tested it on my SPARQ X53 (i7 & GTX 670mx) no on that it only dropped the cpu by 2 degrees Celsius, and the gpu by 2 degrees Celsius. My final conclusion is the Deep Cool N1 NoteBook Cooler will probably only benefit you if you laptop has inadequate cooling of if you do not like your lap getting warm, overall the N1 is probably the best cooler in its price range, as it has many more features than a lot of others. I will for sure be using it on my Lenovo IdeaPad Y580.

- Only a USB 2.0 pass-through
- Pass-through may block ports on some laptops
- Not as slim as something "slim" should be

Other Thoughts: As lackluster as this cooling pad is, it does have a couple decent features. To start with, the fan on this laptop cooling pad is good. The fan is quiet at maximum speed, and nearly silent at lower speeds, all while moving a decent amount of air for the noise level. Variable fan speed is a nice feature, and one that I would like to see on more laptop coolers. The underside of the cooler has small channels for routing the power cable to any of the four sides. While the channels are a nice feature, they would be better if they actually held the cable in.

And now for the bad. To start with, the overall build quality is a bit poor. It is light and hollow, rattles if shaken, and has somewhat sharp edges where the metal mesh meets with the bottom plastic along all the sides. At the price, I was not expecting much, but I was still a little disappointed by the quality. Next on the list is the USB power take-off. I would have liked to see it be a USB 3.0 port since that is what it will likely be plugged into, however, it is only a USB 2.0 port. The other problem with the USB is that the power cable comes off the side of the little extender piece. While this is common and isn't too big of a deal, it does have the potential to block ports on some laptops. My last and final complaint is that for a "slim design" laptop cooler, it is not very slim. It is almost twice as thick as my Sony Vaio Duo laptop, and given how much space there is on either side of the fan, it has no need for being as thick as it is.

Overall, it is an okay product, but I feel that there are better on the market.
