5 out of 5 eggsEasy to set up and use

Pros: Quick and easy to set up. We use the docking station with several Dell Ultrabooks running Windows 7. We do some tweaking of the native power options but, otherwise, we can just install the drivers and we're up and running. We've had no issues when connecting dual monitors or additional devices to the docking station.

Cons: We've had a few of these in service for about six months with no real issues. We found that one particular model of a Dell keyboard simply wouldn't work with the docking station. I'd provide the part number but it was an older USB kb and we have since disposed of them. The first couple of docking stations we deployed stopped working after a Windows update, but was easily resolved by installing a more current USB3 driver to the Ultrabook.

Other Thoughts: Definitely recommend, this item does exactly what we want it to do and the price is very reasonable.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great with MS Surface Pro/Pro2

Pros: Easy to setup
Requires little technical know-how driver installation from Kensington

Cons: Periodic resolution "mismatch" when frequent dock/undock occurs. I've had to reboot my Surface Pro 2 in order to get external monitor resolution corrected. Maybe a driver issue

1 out of 5 eggsIf you have a MAC, don't buy this product.

Pros: Convenient, that's about the only pro so far.

Cons: Performance on OSX is horrible. Almost completely unusable. Per some reviews on another site, Kensington has been contacted but doesn't seem to care. Basically, it's incredibly laggy doing anything on the video output connected to it. Screen doesn't draw fast enough at all. Everything works, it just is way to slow to use.

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my new Mid 2013 Macbook Air, if it worked the way it's advertised it would be awesome, however, the video performance is horrible. The screen draws visibly and the mouse is very laggy, I bought this specifically because it supports 1080p on dual monitors.

2 out of 5 eggsNot recommended for Mac

Pros: Small footprint. Seems sturdy. 4 USB 2.0 + 2 USB 3.0. 2 Display outputs.

Cons: Bought this for my new Macbook Pro (late 2012 15" non-retina), primarily for the DisplayLink video, but also to use as a "docking station". My two primary problems with this device are that it did not properly pass through the USB output from my KVM switch to my Mac, and that the DisplayLink video works very poorly on certain applications (which happened to be ones I care about a lot.)

There's nothing special about my KVM switch. Like most current KVM switches, it takes USB input from a keyboard and a mouse and passes them along via 1 USB output. I was not trying to use video through the KVM switch, I only wanted the USB output from the KVM to pass through the docking station and into the Mac, but it did not work. When I plugged the KVM USB output directly into the Mac it worked fine, when I plugged from the KVM into the docking station (which should pass through to the Mac), only the keyboard worked, no mouse at all. I called Kensington about this, and their response was that they don't support KVM switches. That is not acceptable in my opinion -- it's supposed to act as a USB hub and the KVM output is USB. It should work.

The larger problem is with the DisplayLink video. I really wanted this b/c my Macbook has only 1 mini-displayport output, and since I don't have a thunderbolt compatible display to daisychain, that means I can only have 1 external display. I thought this docking station would address that issue, but it's not usable for me. When I first installed the drivers that came with the device, many applications rendered poorly, but things improved substantially when I installed the latest DisplayLink drivers (rather than the latest Kensington drivers.) Support recommended that as well, and it was improved. Mac apps that I have seen still rendering poorly with the latest drivers include iPhoto and the thumbnails on a new tab in Safari (showing your most recently visited sites). Lots of flashing and artifacting on the rendering of those things. But the reason I RMA'd was the incompatibility with VMWare Fusion, especially when running in Unity mode. I have a number of Windows apps that I still need to run on a daily basis. Almost all of these applications render poorly - lots of clipping, moving a window on the screen crops with a gray rectangle, scrolling is almost impossible in any modal dialog (think File -> Open and try to navigate to a file.) All of these actions work seamlessly on the Mac's built-in display, and also on an external display connected via mini-displayport. But with this DisplayLink adapter, it was nearly impossible to work with these applications.

I tried several workarounds on the VMWare forums that were not DisplayLink specific, but I was never able to get things working in any acceptable form, so I just ate the $22 restocking fee and $13 return shipping. Very disappointed. Do not recommend for any Mac user who does serious video work or uses Fusion or Parallels.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great with my Surface Pro

Pros: Installing the latest drivers from Kensington's website on my Surface Pro, this thing worked great. No issues whatsoever.

Cons: The front shiny part was scratched up. Looked like the factory didn't care about what it looked like. A real shame. Might sent it back and get another one...

Other Thoughts: Very nice, I just guess it didn't have scratches on the front. Just make sure that you use the latest drivers with it.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Connected easily. Quick download of Win 8 drivers

Cons: Keeps dropping connection on Win 8 Pro ultrabook. Monitor, keyboard and printer all lost. It's like the main USB gets pulled out then back in real quick. NOT acceptable

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great!

Pros: Multiple monitors, sound, LAN, USB Hub. Everything works great. Go to their site and download the latest version of the software for Windows 8. Just one plug and it detects nicely and everything works through the device. Very nice and I am extremely pleased

Cons: Occasionally the bandwidth may suffer and the video gets a bit jerky. This happens on the Windows 7 machine mostly but did notice it once on the Win 8 machine. Doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to it. I notice is more often than not on the bubble screensaver. Not enough to consider taking it back but a potential consideration none the less. It may have more to do with my video card on the laptop perhaps on such a widescreen monitor but I can neither confirm nor deny that.

Other Thoughts: Excellent product. Does a great job and handles my needs.
