5 out of 5 eggsGreat for a 17 inch wide screen laptop

Pros: 1. Quiet(ish),
2. Fits a large laptop, like my Dell E1705, 17 inch widescreen.
3. Has two USB ports. One acts as a power line-in, and the other (I suspect) replaces the port you lost from your device to power it. This is just a theory as my laptop has like 62(ish) USB ports.
4. Intakes air from it's Two fans in the top, and vents it out the sides. Genius!

Cons: 1. Lost one footpad (still has 8 left).

Other Thoughts: Very glad I made the purchase. I really cannot imagine buying this type of item anywhere other than Newegg.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks just fine

Pros: Helps to cool laptop. I have a HP DV9715.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Cooling pads are designed to help cool a laptop, not actually cool it. That job is left up to the "usually" under powered fans in the laptop its self. All a cooler is supposed to do is keep fresh air near the fans so the cooling fans don't have to keep using the same hot air to try to cool with.

1 out of 5 eggsDo Not Buy Will Not Keep Laptop Cool

Pros: Quite and works from USB

Cons: Fan speed is very slow and can barely feel the air coming out of the sides of the unit.

Other Thoughts: I have a 17" HP Laptop and while playing video games with intense graphics my laptop gets very hot and the internal fan bogs down my system tyring to keep it cool. I bought this to try and cool it down but instead this cooler overheated my system and actually got so hot it melted the rubber feet on the cooler. I positioned the laptop in different positions on the cooler to try and make it work but no success. I would not recommend buying this.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent design, cheap build

Pros: Reasonably effective cooling
Big enough for 17" widescreen
Flat bottom, vents to the side - comfortable for lap use

Cons: Not very well constructed
kind of ugly

Other Thoughts: Lasted getting on for 2 years, but it's finally more or less dead - fans are vibrating like crazy and the plugs are not making a good connection

2 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Sort of works.

Cons: For the price, I expected a bit better quality. Ended up buying a cheaper one that fit my 17" laptop better.

4 out of 5 eggsDoes the job

Pros: One of the few coolers that actually fit my laptop and allowed me to have it on my lap.

Cons: Not the greatest but it gets the job done.

Other Thoughts: If you have a '17 laptop and like to actually be able to put the laptop on your lap, then buy it.

1 out of 5 eggsfans get stuck

Pros: cheap

Cons: both fans have tilted off balance and jammed against the crossbars above them. first the left one did it and cracked a blade, when i removed the damaged blade it worked fine until it happened again. then after a while the other side did the same thing

Other Thoughts: it says it's for 17" notebooks but because of how the sides curve downward the rubber feet on my hp dv9500 could not sit on it, causing it to slide a lot

3 out of 5 eggsBetter than a book!

Pros: Works without any flaws so far...

Cons: On/off switch is in back - makes it hard to reach, bottom edge is a little sharp, fans are fairly noisy (not sure this can be improved a whole lot?)

4 out of 5 eggsNot Perfect, but it meets my needs

Pros: This is the only cooler I've been able to find that meets all of my needs:
1. Adequate width for 17" laptop
2. Smooth bottom surface for comfort
3. Air flow to the sides and rear, rather than to the bottom.

I've had the unit for about a year, and it has held up pretty well, although most of the stickon bottom pads have come off.

Cons: Power to the fans and LED from the USB connection is erratic, subject to slight flexing of the cable connection. I have tweaked the contacts on the USB connector with marginal success, but I finally figured out that the underlying problem was a cold solder joint in the connection from the passthrough connection for the metal shell that encapsulates the USB plug (which is in the voltage path for the fans) to the circuit board. The large mass of the shell makes it difficult to get the tab hot enough to make a good solder bond without overheating the circuitry, but I finally managed to hold a small iron directly on the tab, and accomplish a solid joint. It seems very stable now.
