1 out of 5 eggsWe have over 100 of these

Pros: Nice design you can set your laptop directly on top to put your keyboard at a good typing angle. Easy to setup

Cons: out of 100+ of these we had to pull almost half from service due to unpredictable operation. Did some updates on firmware fixed some issues but also caused more problems. Gigabit Network port worked on some and didn't on others. Would stop working in the middle of the day would have to unplug power source for 30 secs to get it back working.

Other Thoughts: We have phased these out of service completely do to them being unreliable and causing problems.

1 out of 5 eggsFine if it works

Pros: When it works, they're fine.

Cons: I have a lot of these throughout my office that we purchased on our last upgrade for laptops. They all seemed to work well for about 6 months. Then they intermittently started not to push video (not related to the DisplayLink updates), some of the usb ports didn't work, there was a lag time on some peoples computer. Needless to say, I had to return these to Targus and have waited over a month and a half and still haven't received new ones.

Other Thoughts: The tech support is fine for simple things but if you have to return things, they're terrible. I do have a few that are still working. The bottom line is I will never order a Targus product again. There's number of other companies that are making USB docking stations and will go with that from here on out. I think Dell's docking station is the same one, just rebranded for Dell - as Dell used to sell Targus. But at least with a Dell product - once you get out of the Newegg return policy - I'll get a return in a few days - not a month and a half.

2 out of 5 eggsUnreliable, poor custome service

Pros: Good port selection. Solid USB power source. Wedge shape could be a useful laptop back-raiser except it's not textured enough to be stable. Restarts fairly quickly.

Cons: Unreliable - video corruption, loses USB devices, ethernet drops out, etc. According to Targus service it should be restarted every day, it "wasn't designed to be left turned on" - but, no power switch, you yank power cord. Targus CS also always has you reinstall intel drivers, DL drivers etc - oddly, it's never a Targus problem. (All that re-installing and rebooting is lost work-time, and has yet to fix any problem.). Slides around on the desk. Tried with Win 8 and Win 7 on HP Pavilion dv7t (i7, 16gb RAM, USB3 ports, etc)

Other Thoughts: I've already moved most USB use to a new'plugable' USB3 hub (flawless) and move enet cableback to lap (now enet is solid) but losed evices connected to the Targus USB

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable

Pros: Works as expected for a while.

Cons: We purchased 4 of these for our employees (myself included), and after right around 13 months, 3 of them have partially failed (the fourth is showing signs of dying now).

The units become very unreliable, requiring you power cycle them in order for them to function, and eventually the video / Ethernet functions stop working.

Other Thoughts: With plenty of other USB3 dock options out there, I suggest you try something other than this one.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking Great

Pros: I am connecting a Microsoft Surface Pro to 2 - 1920 x 1080 monitors, a network, printer, keyboard and mouse with this. It was a very quick setup and everything seems to be working great. I did go to the displaylink website and download the drivers directly from there. I'm not certain, but I believe displaylink just updated their drivers.

Cons: Can't think of any.

Other Thoughts: Be aware that when purchasing a device like this, depending on the working load of your computer and the power of your computer, you may see a very small lag time between when you move your mouse and when it moves on screen. There is a lot of information to pass via one USB port. This is normal, and something that becomes very tolerable after spending some time with it.

2 out of 5 eggsExpect to spend a lot of time updating and reinstalling...

Pros: Allows for triple-display setup with Windows 7 and 8.

Cons: The drivers are the worst. After 6 months of installing, removing, reinstalling and updating the DisplayLink and Intel USB 3.0 drivers (keep in mind, each operation requires a reboot), we're calling it quits.
We purchased 10 of these. Targus replaced one so far, and a power supply for another one. We get the same results with all of them: if the laptop is removed from the docking station or rebooted, you have to power cycle the docking station... or else the USB 3.0 and video ports don't work.

Other Thoughts: Not worth the 12+ hours I've spent trying to make it work, no matter how good Targus support is.

1 out of 5 eggsKill it with fire

Pros: None.

Cons: You would be better off flushing your money down the toilet than purchasing this dung. It simply does not work. The drivers are garbage. The dock does not properly establish a network connection and USB devices randomly lose connectivity. I had to buy a USB 3.0 network adapter to plug into this thing just to get a connection, and even then it still doesn't reliably work, since USB devices randomly drop. Avoid it like the plague.

Other Thoughts: Buy something else.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat to use with Surface Pro

Pros: I wanted to make my surface pro my desktop pc, so i bought this docking station, so far works great, has plenty of usb 2.0 and 3.0 slots for your needs, also has hdmi output, dvi and ethernet, works great on my surface pro, everything works as should

Cons: Sometimes there is a little ghosting and/or low framerate on the output via hdmi but is not big deal also requires to be plugged to a wall charger to be working so is not that portable, otherwise, works great

Other Thoughts: it includes dvi to hdmi adapter even if you want to make a dual screen setup

2 out of 5 eggsSpotty Performance

Pros: Plugs and plays nicely on Windows 8 Acer w700. Downloaded drivers from Targus and it was working in under 10 minutes.

Cons: Spotty performance. Cursor would freeze, network would hang. Programs would lock up.

Other Thoughts: Switched to a Kensington sd3500v and it uses the same displaylink drivers. No problems in over 24 hours. I would say spend a little more and get the one that won't hang up on you.
