3 out of 5 eggsGet the latest drivers

Pros: It works as expected for a USB docking station.

After a day of use,

Cons: Video refresh is slow, but that's to be expected over a USB connection.

Shipped with very old drivers on the CD and would crash to BSOD during the install on Toshiba Portege R865 until I downloaded the latest drivers. With those it installed fine.

Only the front two USB ports are powered, so they must be used for a USB mouse or keyboard. This is the only real design complaint that I have.

Other Thoughts: There's really no other solution for a laptop without a docking station port, so it hard to fault the video performance. You just have to know that it will be slow.

2 out of 5 eggsworked great until it died in 2 weeks

Pros: Simple to use and install.

Cons: The unit started crashing on me after 2 weeks of use. Monitor would go dark and require a reboot of the Dynadock.

At least Newegg was good with RMAs.

Other Thoughts: color is off, and I saw no way to adjust the color. There is also no user interface for the unit.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good universal docking station.

Cons: Second monitor kind of slow when hooked up through the docking station. I figured it would be like this when I bought it though.

Other Thoughts: Good purchase. It was for the wife's laptop to help with mobility and school.

5 out of 5 eggsPainless

Pros: Easy install on Dell Latitude Z with Windows 7. Downloaded install file from web site and was up and running.
Multiple display options available.
Small footprint.

Cons: Not noticed any yet.

Other Thoughts: The only configuration problem I had was with the mouse settings on my laptop. I had set up the laptop do do nothing when lid was closed and connected to power. I closed the lid and the mouse would act erratically. Turns out the touch pad and external mouse were both active. The lid was pressing on the laptop pad and registering strokes. I had to go in and change the laptop settings to disable the touch pad when an external mouse is attached. Now everything works without problem.

2 out of 5 eggsNot Impressed

Pros: Rather simple setup, might consider again in the future when USB 3.0 becomes the norm or if they used Firewire or eSATA

Cons: Significant delay while typing and it was set up with the DVI connection and USB 2.0 and even with that, the delay was not tolerable. The laptop being used is a Dell 1525 with Dual Core Processor T4400 and a 512mb Nvideo graphics card build in. Newegg had a great price but it was either defective or no reviews mentioned the significant delay when typing.

3 out of 5 eggsA Docking Station, With Some Issues

Pros: A single USB can transfer a basic home laptop, into a business docking station.

Cons: Noticed so issues when waking my computer from sleep, the screen would not come back on, Had to force restart the system. Also if it comes back from sleep, sometimes the graphics are jumpy, have to undock, and redock to fix this issue.

Other Thoughts: Toshiba has a great idea, but have so issues to revolve in it. Graphics and freezing. (some of the freezing issues were fixed from a new drive update, which was automatically downloaded)

4 out of 5 eggsDynadock dual use

Pros: I bought Dynadock to move from my desktop to my Toshiba laptop. I followed the instructions and loaded the software on my Toshiba laptop. I set it up to use my multi-function monitor, natural keyboard and trackball mouse. It took a little while to get everything working properly. However, I still had stuff on my desktop, so I put the software on the desktop and set it up for the Dynadock. Now from my Dynadock I simply plug the USB plug into the computer I want to use (laptop or desktop) and start the computer. It comes up on my monitor and I can still use my keyboard and mouse. It works great!

Cons: I had a little trouble with the display settings. I couldn't turn the laptop display off, so it's always on. I also had to play with the display resolution, because I'm using DVI on the laptop and component HD on the desktop. The Dynadock offered the higher resolutions, but my monitor posed limitations on DVI (1280x1024). It's good enough for what I do. If I want HD video, I can go to the desktop.

Other Thoughts: I really like using the same user environment for two different computers.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great for me

Pros: I'm a programmer with a need to drive multiple external monitors at 1920x1200. For this, the Toshiba is a godsend. Admittedly, my displays are pretty static, but I was able to drive full screen video with the Toshiba.

I also use the audio out and extra USB ports with no problem.

I've tried Expresscard docking solutions and they are a real pain. This one actually works.

Cons: The heart of the Toshiba video is the Displaylink technology. It is rather consumptive of CPU resources if there is much motion video.

Other Thoughts: This docking solution works well and seemlessly within the constraints mentioned above. USB 3.0 is due out soon, so you might want to hold out for a faster solution. In the meantime, this is a great way to add those external monitors without a hassle.
