2 out of 5 eggsOverpriced / lowquality

Pros: DVI, LAN jack, 4 USB

Cons: After less than two years of use the USB (UP) port to connect the laptop begins to hiss (yes litterally it makes noise when it is connected) and no longer works. Easily confirmed by plugging in/out. When not coonected the noice stops. Still it stopped working because the connector is bad.

A lot of money for something that didn't hold up to the test of time.

Other Thoughts: Not buying it again

2 out of 5 eggsNot worth the price

Pros: Does what it says it will do.

Cons: Not worth the cost.
Does what it says it'll do....SLOWLY....with possible BSOD

Other Thoughts: I’m not impressed. Overall the device works...it’s just sooo flippen slow! I have a wireless mouse, a keyboard and a monitor plugged in it and there is a definite lag on the screen for mouse movement, keyboard typing and application refreshing. Honestly though, I think the problems I’m having are all related to the refresh rate from the emulated video driver. Targus almost has an awesome piece of equipment....ALMOST. But almost doesn’t cut it and shouldn’t be allowed to be sold. Again, NOT WORTH 160.00 DOLLARS. NOT IMPRESSED.

3 out of 5 eggsNot bad, but a step backward from what I was used to

Pros: I went from an adjustable HP docking station/stand with VGA out, digital audio, ethernet, 6 USB ports, and built-in speakers that only required a single connection (including power) to the laptop to this.

The DVI output is nice - I no longer have the noise flicker I was getting from the analog VGA output, but... see below.

Cons: As mentioned by others, I have discovered that hardware acceleration is not possible. I was forewarned that gaming would not be pretty (impossible, as it turns out), however I did not expect that neither Hulu nor YouTube would run in full screen on the second monitor. Photoshop editing also is untrustworthy on the second monitor, as images are not properly refreshed. Therefore, I will be getting a HDMI to DVI connector to plug directly into my laptop instead of using the docking station's DVI output.

Support for this product on Targus' website is difficult to find and I do not have faith that the Targus USB update tool actually works - as it told me that I have the most current driver, yet I found newer ones on Targus' website.

I have fewer USB connections now, and because it does not provide power to the laptop, I will now (once the HDMI to DVI cable arrives) be plugging three cables (power, video, & docking station USB) into my laptop twice daily instead of one.

3 out of 5 eggsYou'll love it or hate it

Pros: I said 3 eggs because really it would be either 5 eggs or 1 egg depending on your situation.

First the pros:
I was initially quite impressed with product. I installed the software first and when I connected my Dell XPS laptop it 'just worked'. Printer, scanner, keyboard, mouse, web cam... everything was recognized and drivers loaded. I was even directed to the a link to get an updated scanner driver.

Cons: The problem is that my XPS laptop was ordered with the GeForce 1GB video card. As it turns out the video signal that goes to the docking station via the single USB connection is not capable of leveraging the hardware acceleration graphics capabilities. Therefore applications that require hardware acceleration - even games like Solitaire and ironically the Dell Support application - simply do not render on the secondary monitor. For example, I could place the card game window half on the laptop and half on the secondary monitor. The game would function but only the half on the laptop showed any cards. Note that other applications like web browser, MS Word, Office, etc worked great. Note also that connecting the laptop to the secondary monitor via HDMI cable worked fine.

For the record, Dell technical support is who ultimately confirmed for me that a solution was not technically possible.

Other Thoughts: So I guess the bottom line is if your laptop doesn't support accelerated graphics this could be a GREAT product but if it does the video will just not work for you.
