4 out of 5 eggsNot a bad lock

Pros: Coiled, decent length, combo, etc.

Cons: The black rubber ring on the end likes to fall off. Not too bad of a problem, but enough to take an egg for. Quality should be better on this part, especially from Kensington. If you lose the ring it sits loosely in your lock slot but still works.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat little item.

Pros: I bought my first kensigton lock over a year ago. Great item, it's prevented my MacBook Pro from walking off my desk a few times now. These are great for space conservation, compact and fit pretty much anywhere when I'm travelling. I bought this ComboSaver to test out added space saving.

Cons: The biggest pro & con is the pigtail curl. It's a great idea but gets makes for an interesting time getting the lock through the loop. It's not rocket science, but does add a level of complexity when trying to figure out the best way to secure it.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Secure

Pros: None

Cons: Do not buy this lock. We had three installed, and all three laptops were stolen. No one knew the combination, it was never written down or vocalized. When we found the laptops stolen, the locks were still there, and they were disconnected without even putting in the right combination.

Other Thoughts: I have never regretted a purchase more in my life. Don't put any faith in these locks. If you think that the keyed version of this is better, think again. They can be cracked using a small piece of cardboard.

1 out of 5 eggsThis is weaker than bailing twine!

Pros: Heavy and decent build quality. Cheap.

Cons: I wish I could give this 0 stars, for it fails totally at it's advertised job of "security".

Firstly, the combination lock assembly it flawed in some way. I personally have no idea how, but two separate people whom I showed this to were able to correctly guess three out of the four numbers to my password within 20 seconds. I stopped them at that point, out of disappointment I guess, but there is no way they could have known the four numbers, so the fault lies in the combination lock.

Secondly, the cable. It. Is. Horrible! To test it's durability, I took a pair of conventional wire cutters to it. These cutters could easily fit in a pocket, and even inconspicuously in the palm of your hand. After figuring out the best way to do it, I have my time down to 10 seconds. From walking up to the cable, to grabbing the laptop and walking away, 10 seconds. That is absolutely UNBELIEVABLY unacceptable.

Other Thoughts: This lock will only stop "spur of the moment" thieves. People who walk up, see an unguarded laptop, and decide to take it. Anyone else, and this will not meet expectation. I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: Works, coil makes it more portable.

Cons: I'm sure one could cut through it with little difficulty.

It snaps open as soon as the correct combination is in, making brute forcing the combo quite doable.

Other Thoughts: Good enough to stop a quick theft in my dorm room.

5 out of 5 eggsQuality, and Security

Pros: Self coiling cable is such a plus. Steel covered with plastic so it doesn't damage the laptop. Provides real protection.

Cons: None.

1 out of 5 eggsBuggy Cumbersome Lock

Pros: Can't think of anything to recommend this lock.

Cons: I've used a few different laptop locks over the years and never had as much trouble as I've had with this one. The locking mechanism works only intermittently for my Dell Inspiron. Sometimes it'll catch and sometimes it won't. It's not just me--it does the same thing to my husband. With the buggy latching mechanism, the coiled cord complicates things because it tangles and wants to spring back just as you're struggling to get the lock to latch while pushing the button.

Other Thoughts: The combination reset feature worked fine. But I lack confidence that I can get the lock to latch within a reasonable time and with reasonable effort when I need it to. Therefore, I'll be shopping for another model or brand.
