Kanex iAdapt 51 Mini DisplayPort to HDMI w/ 5.1 Channel Digital Audio Model MDPHDMITOS

Pros: This is a solidly good adapter. It works pretty flawlessly for video, and gives the TV control over the audio coming from the computer. Picture quality and audio quality is good.

Cons: Occasionally, adapter gets low voltage feedback on audio line causing loud noise. Unplug and replug makes it go away.
BIG CAVEAT!! This is NOT FOR 2011 MACS W/ THUNDERBOLT. As of 6/2011, firmware is not compatible with newer USB on 2011 Macs. Will not respond at all. Kanex is aware but still has not released update.

Other Thoughts: All around, a good adapter for HDMI if you want great audio also using the toslink connector. If the audio quality is not as important, go for the Kanex iAdapt HDMI V2. Cheaper and direct mdp to HDMI.

Pros: None.

Cons: - Notoriously unreliable. It was dead right out of the package the first time. Second device worked just barely after multiple attempts then finally failed after a couple of days.
- Return policy is limited to replacement. Take a wild guess why.
- Manufacturer is as unreliable as the device itself. No troubleshooting tips, no acknowledgement of known issues, no helpful responses.

Other Thoughts: This manufacturer has a similar track record with other devices. Unbelievable that companies like this are allowed to turn a profit.

Pros: None.

Cons: Was dead straight out of the box. LED was down and the computer didn't detect the device with any amount of tweaking.

Other Thoughts: Going to check out retail outlets instead in case this happens with other manufacturers as well.

Pros: Used w/ my MBP for just over one year. For the most part, it's a straightforward initial setup, with the use of some online instructions, and very easy to use after that. Very good picture, and great for watching HD stuff from the laptop. Can be slightly finicky if switching between tv's with different resolutions (i.e. - 1080p <-> 720p), but nothing major.

It did break just after one year. But Kanex CS is GREAT. Great. The little door on the optical adapter broke, but Kanex still accepted the exchange out of warranty. Through their website and email, communication was very easy and helpful. Really great and extremely pleased.

Cons: Slightly pricey, (although cheaper here than what I payed).

I wish it had never broken :[

Other Thoughts: Great company, definitely will look to them in the future.

Pros: Works perfectly. Passes Dolby 5.1 using passthrough technique (Perian) and has gorgeous video. Used on new MacBookPros and Minis without any issue. Macs recognize the adapter, adjust for 1080i/p resolution and handle color nicely.

Cons: Still a little too pricey... any what's up with the 1 per customer?

Pros: Great idea for Mac home theater adapter! Digital sound!

Cons: Poor display. Cannot adjust to fit to tv screen. Using overscan menus are not visible. Turn off overscan and get several inches of black blank screen on my 46" tv. Very cheap DVI to HDMI does better video, but this item is expensive and NewEgg will not refund.

Other Thoughts: Wish working HDMI with audio was available, but after trying Kanex 5.1 and 2 channel neither had reasonable display.

At least I ordered 2 channel from another vendor that offers partial refund.
