3 out of 5 eggsThe Goods and Bads

This review is from: BELKIN Laptop Cooling Stand with Wave Design, 11 1/2 x 12 1/2 x 1 3/8, White F5L001

Pros: I've actually owned one of these for about 3 years now, still in good working condition, still keeps my laptop cool. Most games will run my laptop hot about 70C, after about a half hour with the cooling pad on, it drops to around 64C. Keeps my lap cool and my laptop from overheating.

Cons: Well i bought one for myself, and one for my girlfriend. After about half a year my girlfriend's one started making noise, and eventually the fan died. She still uses it to keep her lap cool, but it doesn't help the laptop as much anymore.

Another gripe is the design, i'm a big guy and it's kinda small, like a 15' laptop will cover it and then some, so i have to stay in a position where it will fit comfortably on my lap. The arch on the back makes it a bit of a pain taking around in a backpack, or laptop case for that matter.

Other Thoughts: I'm sure there's a lot of better cooling pads out there, but i've had pretty good luck with mine so i'll be sticking with it.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrid

This review is from: BELKIN Laptop Cooling Stand with Wave Design, 11 1/2 x 12 1/2 x 1 3/8, White F5L001

Pros: Worked great out of the box.

Cons: Worked well for about a week, then every time I powered it on, it would make a horrible buzzing sound. I took it apart to see if there was anything was stuck in the fan, but there wasn't... the fan just went bad. I got it to work again, but the sound was recurring and annoying. Then, last week, while transporting it in my backpack, one of the fan blades broke off for no good reason.

Other Thoughts: Dont buy this, there are more efficient ones for cheaper.

3 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: BELKIN Laptop Cooling Stand with Wave Design, 11 1/2 x 12 1/2 x 1 3/8, White F5L001

Pros: Works, keeps laptops pretty cool, angle is nice, pad is sturdy.

Cons: Back hinge could stand to be a bit more sturdy. Fan is rather poor quality and can break :\

4 out of 5 eggsGreat

This review is from: BELKIN Laptop Cooling Stand with Wave Design, 11 1/2 x 12 1/2 x 1 3/8, White F5L001

Pros: Ergonomic design, not only does it cool the laptop significantly, but it also cools whatever is under it; which is nice if you have it in your lap.

Works perfectly and I've had the same one for over a year and a half.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: If you have problems with this product, you are most likely mistreating it. I move mine around quite a bit and I have yet to have a problem with it.

Also, if you get something stuck in it and you really can't get it out with just regular small utensils, there are just a few screws to loosen to clear the area.

4 out of 5 eggsWell, it cools.

This review is from: BELKIN Laptop Cooling Stand with Wave Design, 11 1/2 x 12 1/2 x 1 3/8, White F5L001

Pros: - Cools effectively (as measured by my CPU's temp. reader)
- Nice ergonomic design
- Great no-slip rubber
- Super convenient USB storage compartment
- Despite the wavy "convection" design, it still fits in my laptop bag (though I have to leave the very top open). After my tests, I really think there is something to the convection design!
- Just take care of the pad and it will serve you well. If you're famous for breaking computer parts or are rough with things, you might want to find a more solid one (not that this is poorly made or anything).

Cons: - Gets noisy after a while (However, I have found that if you store the unit vertically for a day or two, it quiets down tremendously. So, if you have a day you aren't using your laptop and can do that, it should make it quieter longer.)
- USB connection to the unit is likely to come loose, leaving you to unscrew all of it and re-position it. A Philips head screwdriver and some super glue fixes the problem (pretty much permanently).
- Back support stand falls down if you push the unit back.
- USB cable isn't very thick, and if your USB plugs are towards the front of the laptop, the cable may become exposed/short right where it meets the male end on the cable. Again, some super glue (to glue the outer cable, not the electrical parts!) fixed that for me.
- Fan is on the bottom, making it less efficient when placed on a bed, couch, etc.

Other Thoughts: I was looking to replace this cooling pad with a couple of other choices. According to my CPU's temperature readings, however, the Belkin did a much better job at cooling my laptop (Toshiba Satellite A215-S4747, 15.4 inch).
Average temp with no pad - 104ºF.
With other choices - ~99ºF (or worse).
Belkin - ~97ºF.
Also, I left my laptop just sitting there for a while doing nothing to see how low it could cool it. The Belkin has gotten it down to 90ºF when idle. The others only got down to 93ºF.
Note: For lap use! If you just make sure that there's some way for air intake underneath, it still cools well. It's kind of common sense - you can't expect to block the fan/air intake and complain about it not cooling. It is a slight inconvenience. If you're strictly a couch/bed user, might try something else.

All in all, despite the noise (which can be corrected), it's been the best and most comfortable cooler. Probably not recommended for a 17". A 4 out of 5 only for the noise.

1 out of 5 eggsVery Poor Fan

This review is from: BELKIN Laptop Cooling Stand with Wave Design, 11 1/2 x 12 1/2 x 1 3/8, White F5L001

Pros: When it works, it is pretty quiet and does it job at cooling

Cons: Does not work for over a few months... I bought two of these, thinking the first one was a fluke when it died a few months after buying, but the result was the same with the second. The fan starts to make very annoying grinding noises and begins to lose cooling power as well.

Other Thoughts: Also, the stand is very fragile, and was just not designed well in general - if you tilt the laptop backwards at all the stand will fold... I fixed this by reinforcing the stand with duct tape :).

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Waste Your Money

This review is from: BELKIN Laptop Cooling Stand with Wave Design, 11 1/2 x 12 1/2 x 1 3/8, White F5L001

Pros: Well, it does blow a little air....but doesn't cool the laptop well.

Cons: If you decide to buy this, you may as well invest in a screwdriver and super glue too. The connector where the USB cord plugs in to the cooling pad falls in to the cooler and has to be totally taken apart and glued in place. I've had to do this multiple times though I've been careful with it. I've also had three of four of the fan blades break off by just catching, which would cause the product not to work until the blade was totally off. And on top of this, it's not a quiet fan. My advice would be to keep looking; this isn't worth the time or the money.

Other Thoughts: This is clearly not meant for a 17" laptop, and it also doesn't sit flat on a desk. It's quite bulky, really.

1 out of 5 eggsFan Blades Exposed will Break

This review is from: BELKIN Laptop Cooling Stand with Wave Design, 11 1/2 x 12 1/2 x 1 3/8, White F5L001

Pros: While it lasts, the design is ergonomic and cools well either your lap or on a table with the stand open

Cons: The plastic fan is not well protected, and it is only a matter of time before the fan blades catch on somethingand break. When picking it up while it's running, it's easy to inadvertently hit the fan blades with your finger causing the blades to break.

3 out of 5 eggsCould be better for the price

This review is from: BELKIN Laptop Cooling Stand with Wave Design, 11 1/2 x 12 1/2 x 1 3/8, White F5L001

Pros: When it works, it's quiet and does a great job of cooling my laptop, i see a 10-15 degree drop.

Cons: Both my roommate and I have laptops that get too hot, so we both got one. By 2 months, 3 blades on the fan broke on his pad and at 4 months, the stand is broken on mine, and I'm very gentle with it.

For both of us, the fan can go from being very quiet to being VERY loud. I figured out that it happens when you plug it in and it'll take like 10 mins for it to become quiet, but this happened VERY often. Kinda annoying really.

Other Thoughts: Great potential, like I said, when it works it works excellent.

OH and also I noticed, i ordered two of these, i.e. two identical models, however, mine came with the usb-cable that's permanently attached to the cooler, which is great cause there's no way you're going to lose the cable. The second one however came with a removable usb-cable, i.e. one side actually needs to be plugged into the cooling pad, my roommate lost the cable a bunch of times, kinda annoying.
