Thermal compound is necessary to create a reliable transfer of heat from your computer's processor to its heatsink to keep your CPU from overheating. Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound does this with three unique shapes and sizes of pure silver particles to maximize particle-to-particle contact area and thermal transfer. It's optimized for use between modern high-power CPUs and high-performance heatsinks or water-cooling solutions. This 3.5-gram tube contains enough compound to cover at least 15 to 25 small CPU cores, or 6 to 10 large CPU cores, or 2 to 5 heat plates.

Note: This is an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) version, which includes the product, but nothing else. They are packaged generically and are best suited for system builders who don't require documentation or bundled accessories.

  • newegg 99.9% Pure Silver The Arctic Silver 5 uses three unique shapes and sizes of pure silver particles to maximize particle-to-particle contact area and thermal transfer.
  • newegg High Density The Arctic Silver 5 contains over 88% thermally conductive filler by weight. The thermally-enhanced ceramic particles including micronized silver, sub-micron zinc oxide, aluminum oxide and boron nitride particles improve the compound's performance and long-term stability.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: High quality, low price.

Cons: Should you put too much and it spills over onto your motherboard, the potential of frying it is pretty high if you have below-average intelligence.

Other Thoughts: I bought this because this is the kind I've always used. I hadn't even realized a carbon-based thermal paste was available that comes with no risk. No regrets though, it's still an amazing product.

5 out of 5 eggsBest of best

Pros: It's very thin, therefore it spreads very well and does a fantastic job.

Every time I have used this vs other Thermal compounds, it has lowered the temp by 2-5c. The only brand I had close was OCZ.

Cons: Not really a con, but a caution, it is thin. Don't squeeze too hard or fast, you could end up with it on a circuit or motherboard.

Other Thoughts: I have used many brands and consistencies. Arctic Silver is one of the thinnest, which I believe makes it very effective and easy to spread. I do not like the thick paste ones that don't allow a heatsink to make complete contact. When I remove the heatsink, the thermal compound is well covered, never dried out or runny.

I use a plastic squeegee of any kind to spread it.

5 out of 5 eggsWouldn't buy anything else.

Pros: It's thermal paste. It works well. I've been using it for years.

Cons: Expensive. There are cheaper options; When you spend hundreds of dollars on a CPU, why skimp on the cheap stuff?

Other Thoughts: Newegg taped the thermal paste to my packing slip, so it was easy to find! Also, everything was packaged well, and it looked like UPS actually TRIED to break this one. Never fear, Newegg is here!

5 out of 5 eggsUsing for years

Pros: This is the stuff for no-brainer choice for enthusiast build. Not like crazy enthusiast, but just eager to get good performance. Well documented and wide spread usage all contribute to good deal.

Cons: conductive, tho no prob ever with that, and I ain't exactly pristine clean.

Other Thoughts: just get this.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Lowers temps better then stock thermal paste, easy to apply and lasts a long time. Definitely recommend this paste!

Cons: Can short your motherboard, so be careful

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent stuff

Pros: Excellent quality paste. Very easy to apply, excellent conduction and you get enough for multiple applications.

Replacing the stock paste on my EVGA GTX 660 with this gave me a decrease of ~10c under a sustained full load. I have also used arctic silver 5 with my processor for over a year and have seen excellent results.

Cons: None, really. The tiny tube of paste came in a massive bubble envelope, though, which was silly.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid product, as ever.

Pros: As always, better temps than the junk included with the AIO I bought. Not the most modern gunk in the world, but at this point, it's as classic as Coca Cola.

Cons: It's still electrically conductive.

Other Thoughts: I'm actually surprised that the formula is unchanged - electrical conductivity isn't an issue as long as you are careful, but PC building is so much more popular now than it was when Arctic Silver 5 came out, I'm amazed that more people don't have issues with it.

I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Cons: None, other than that it would be great if this stuff was packaged with cpus.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Lowered my temps on CPU (FX-6300) and GPU (XFX 6870 Black) by 10C immediately, at idle everything is frosty cool and at max load, everything is frosty cool. Will never buy another paste again.

Cons: Didn't come with any Arctic Silver stickers for my case.

Other Thoughts: Will never buy another thermal paste again.
