Thermal compound is necessary to create a reliable transfer of heat from your computer's processor to its heatsink to keep your CPU from overheating. Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound does this with three unique shapes and sizes of pure silver particles to maximize particle-to-particle contact area and thermal transfer. It's optimized for use between modern high-power CPUs and high-performance heatsinks or water-cooling solutions. This 3.5-gram tube contains enough compound to cover at least 15 to 25 small CPU cores, or 6 to 10 large CPU cores, or 2 to 5 heat plates.

Note: This is an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) version, which includes the product, but nothing else. They are packaged generically and are best suited for system builders who don't require documentation or bundled accessories.

  • newegg 99.9% Pure Silver The Arctic Silver 5 uses three unique shapes and sizes of pure silver particles to maximize particle-to-particle contact area and thermal transfer.
  • newegg High Density The Arctic Silver 5 contains over 88% thermally conductive filler by weight. The thermally-enhanced ceramic particles including micronized silver, sub-micron zinc oxide, aluminum oxide and boron nitride particles improve the compound's performance and long-term stability.

5 out of 5 eggsGood stuff

Pros: It's better than the junk manufacturers slap on their fans.

Easy to use, spreads out nicely.

Cons: Ummm....I don't know. I guess it's not edible?

Other Thoughts: Just as a lark, I tried the stock fan that came with my cpu (4790k) with the default thermal paste.

I then tried that same stock fan with this stuff. We're talking a world of difference (5-10 degrees difference).

I then tossed that junk fan into the garbage, berated it with a vengeance, and wounded its inner child, and put a much better cooler on the cpu.

Hey, you get enough thermal paste for 15-20 applications, so waste it like there's no tomorrow!

Seriously, don't eat it though.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's a great thermal paste.

Pros: It's a thermal paste.

Keeps my cpu cool even before the cure time. i5 4690k (4.2 GHz), 30-35 degrees idle, and never above 75 under load.

Cons: Cure time is quite long. Up to 200 hours.

Other Thoughts: It's thermal paste. And I like this thermal paste.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes it's Jo

Pros: Came with plenty for the job and was viscous enough to evenly coat the CPU. Seems to have done its job well because I haven't had any issues with the CPU overheating. It's a bit tough to judge if this was enhanced by the thermal compound or not because it was a new fan I installed.

Cons: None so far.
