Thermal compound is necessary to create a reliable transfer of heat from your computer's processor to its heatsink to keep your CPU from overheating. Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound does this with three unique shapes and sizes of pure silver particles to maximize particle-to-particle contact area and thermal transfer. It's optimized for use between modern high-power CPUs and high-performance heatsinks or water-cooling solutions. This 12-gram tube contains enough compound to cover at least 50 small CPU cores, or 20 large CPU cores, or 7 to 15 heat plates.

Note: This is an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) version, which includes the product, but nothing else. They are packaged generically and are best suited for system builders who don't require documentation or bundled accessories.

  • newegg 99.9% Pure Silver The Arctic Silver 5 uses three unique shapes and sizes of pure silver particles to maximize particle-to-particle contact area and thermal transfer.
  • newegg High Density The Arctic Silver 5 contains over 88% thermally conductive filler by weight. The thermally-enhanced ceramic particles including micronized silver, sub-micron zinc oxide, aluminum oxide and boron nitride particles improve the compound's performance and long-term stability.

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful Product

Pros: Can't say it is better than the rest as I've never used anything else. Just know it works very well. Replaced my stock goo on my Toshiba Satellite A505. Had overheating problems when I was gaming. Clean-up was easy with the Arctic Silver cleaner, compound spreads easily so the job went quick. The difference in performance and temperature is just amazing.

Cons: None so far. I'm not 100% happy with my application. In a month I'll reapply and update as to the condition of the compound. I expect it to hold up well under high loads.

Other Thoughts: My laptop did need a good cleaning. The cooling fan was caked in dust along with the heat-sink. Stock goo was everywhere on the CPU and GPU. Cleaning took longer than anything else. Lowered my core temp 20 C, and now my PC doesn't run at 100% load what it used to idle. Oh, did I mention I just did this yesterday and it still has to cure? My Gen 6 Intel beat a couple Gen 7 models on a benchmark. I just can't be happier with this product.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: Great thermal conductivity, price, and performace. Been a technician for years always trusted Artic Silver

Cons: none, its great thermal paste what more do you want

Other Thoughts: To all of the hilarious horror stories on this thermal paste are from people applying it incorrectly. Spreading it out over the die is absolutely stupid and will cause air bubbles under the heat sink. Place a pea-sized amount on the die and let heat sink and heat spread the paste around the die.

TLDR; Don't compain if you don't know how to install thermal paste in the first place.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: I guess it works as advertised as I have not had a chance to really push the CPU as of yet and still in the break-in/curing period for the TIM.

Cons: NONE

1 out of 5 eggsCakes and dries up

Pros: Silver content- Silver is a great catalyst for all forms of energy

Cons: It cakes and dries up under low non-volatile usage, e.g., email surfing grandmother

Other Thoughts: I've been a mobile PC repair technician since 2007, I have contracts with major corporations and warranty repair services.

I see the same people year after year and can revisit and see how this thermal grease reacts to various levels of usage; every single time this grease dries up and cakes out, even for a grandma that doesn't do anything other than surf the net.

The best thermal grease I ever used came with an
Asrock motherboard, I set it 4yrs ago and came back to see that it's still wet and evenly spread.

5 out of 5 eggs5 Years of testing

Pros: Supposedly has silver of some sort

Cons: It burns out and dries up under normal grandma email/internet surfing

Other Thoughts: I'm a mobile PC repair and contract with major companies such Sears, Office Max, HP, Dell and many others.

In my line of work I visit and revisit many people's PC's it's usually a mass produced box of some sort, but for the most part most of the users I assist are older people and warranties. I have used Arctic Silver 5 for more than 5yrs only to come back and have to change out a heatsink/fan for someone and see that the Arctic Silver 5 is completely dried out and caked up, keep in mind that these are low caliber pc users that mostly browse the net and watch youtube, log into email, etc.,

Do not fall for the hype this stuff dries out and cakes up, the best thermal grease I've ever used was prepackaged with an Asrock motherboard, I built the whitebox back in 2009, last week I pulled the heatsink and fan only to see it as wet and evenly spread as the day I set it. I'm going to look for that product after this review.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat thermal paste

Pros: Very good thermal paste for gpu or cpu. It exchanges the heat from the cpu or gpu to the heat sink very well. Its much better than any other thermal paste. I have been using it for years on my gpu and cpu water block installs (pea method).

Cons: A little pricey for the amount that comes in the syringe.

Other Thoughts: It seems to cool between 1-3c cooler than some other thermal pastes. I think its worth the money for that little gain!
