Arctic Silver Ceramique Thermal Compound - OEM

  • Ceramique
ICON Loading...

Thermal compound is necessary to create a reliable transfer of heat from your computer's processor to its heatsink to keep your CPU from overheating. Arctic Silver Ceramique Thermal Compound uses a high-density layered composite of five unique shapes of thermally conductive aluminum oxide, boron nitride and zinc oxide sub-micron particles to maximize particle-to-particle contact area and thermal transfer. Arctic Silver claims that this unique blend provides heat-transfer performance exceeding most metal-based compounds. This 2.5-gram tube will cover approximately 20 square inches, at a layer of 0.003-inches thick.

Note: This is an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) version, which includes the product, but nothing else. They are packaged generically and are best suited for system builders who don't require documentation or bundled accessories.

5 out of 5 eggsStill good after 4 years.

Pros: There are real temperature differences after it's applied.

Cons: Too much and you'll never get it all off, and it comes in a pretty tiny quantity.

Other Thoughts: I bought this years and years ago for a rig I was building. Didn't think much of it then, but the other rig I've built recently and the few times I've gone in and put on a new layer it has shown real degree losses. Even after all these years, it's still good!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: For a small tube of thermal paste, it lasted quite a long while. Very high quality stuff, I never trust the stuff that comes on a stock cooler.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: It keeps my CPU cool, not much more to say.

Cons: None.

Well, I mean, it's called "Arctic Silver" and this stuff is certainly a different color, but if the white color gets you that much then buy another paste.

Other Thoughts: Generally thermal paste will either work, or fail horrifically. Bad temps can be anything from people overclocking too much, installing coolers improperly, applying thermal paste the wrong way, applying too much, applying too little, etc. etc.

Generally if it works for most people, it works, and that's all you really need with thermal paste. If you're not really sure and you've got the extra cash, go ahead and buy the more expensive stuff. But this stuff will certainly do just fine.

If you're a big overclocker looking for the best temps though, save yourself the time and get the more expensive stuff. This is fine paste, but it's not the best stuff Arctic Silver sells.

4 out of 5 eggsIt's white

Pros: It works.

Cons: It's not silver, too expensive given that it's not silver.

Other Thoughts: It seems to work well on my Quad Core AMD 3.5 GHz Black Edition, but IT'S NOT SILVER!!!

2 out of 5 eggsworse temps now

Pros: It is white and temps are not horrible

Cons: However, my stock stuff that came with a Rocketfish cooler (yeah BB brand) actually kept my cpu cooler about 5-7c cooler.

Other Thoughts: Dont buy get something else

4 out of 5 eggsPerfect for what I needed

Pros: The consistency is perfect for application to my GTX 260 core 216 chip. I had been using Arctic Silver 5 before, but it was so runny it would move away from the center. (for some reason the PNY card I have has a lot of separation between the heatsink and heat spreader...) This stuff filled the gap and is staying where it's supposed to.

Cons: Used it on my processor (I have a Cooler Master Hyper 212 and a Phenom II X3 720 BE) and saw my temps go up about 8C.

Other Thoughts: I bought this because it was cheap and people said it was thick. Not disappointing about he performance on the GPU (dropped my temps from 105C to about 80-85C under load, not bad!). The CPU performance was a little lacking, though. My load temps with Arctic Silver 5 about about 40C, which was about my idle temp with Ceramique. If you're cooling a processor, a careful application of Arctic Silver 5 is definitely the way to go., but if you need a thicker thermal grease this stuff is wonderful!

4 out of 5 eggsWorks OK - How you apply more important than what you apply.

Pros: Works as advertised.

Thickness makes it relatively easy to meter out onto heatsink.

Cleans off fairly easily with alcohol + cotton balls.

Cons: Thicker than your average TIM. This makes me question whether or not the center-grain smoosh method would work on any heatsink surface larger than a quarter.

No improvement over generic zinc oxide (white) TIM.

Other Thoughts: I applied this stuff using a thick gauged 3" german steel razor blade (very nice edge, no blade flex like a box cutter). With proper thickness and consistent application, Ceramique made little to no difference in terms of actual CPU temperature vs the zinc oxide stuff I was using before.

4 out of 5 eggsSeems to work well.

Pros: Along with my cooler, my i5 2500k at 4ghz idles under 30c and runs under 50c when loaded. I don't actually have prior experience with building to compare it to, but my last prebuilt idled at 50c... So it seems promising.

Cons: None to speak of

Other Thoughts: I'm not a computer expert, and this part was used during my first build. Enthusiasts, ignore what I have to say.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Maintains cool temperatures with stock fan around 35c

Cons: Seems really thick and I was intimidated using it for my first build
