When it absolutely needs to stay on forever, Arctic Silver's Arctic Alumina premium ceramic alumina adhesive is the way to go. This high temp adhesive will ensure that the heatsink will stick to whatever you attach it to.
The ceramic composition means that there is no danger of a short circuit, unlike the silver based compounds. Arctic Alumina conducts heat away from sensitive components and improves the efficiency of your cooling system. Keep things cool and functioning under the hottest action!

Great When Needed
- Pros: Very similar (close enough) performance to more expensive AS, Silver Epoxy and far better than frag tape. Permanent Bond. Fast Setting (but a little TOO fast). Tiny bit goes a LONG way if you prep the mating surfaces (lap them flat if needed then clean with alcohol & let dry), and the resulting paper-thin layer of epoxy is lower thermal impedance.
- Cons: Short shelf life (once opened?)about 1 year, longer if kept in freezer in air-tight bag. Sets almost too quick, you need to mix several tiny batches to do a whole video card or other large items so it's still fluid & workable when (last) part per batch is mounted. That is, unless you work very fast but I advise against that since it is permanent (I do not recommend diluting it so you can get the part off later, unless you can mechanically mount the part in addition to the epoxy bond).
- Other Thoughts: Been using this for years, make my own custom sinks on everything from solid-state relays to linear regulators to motherboards, video cards, peltiers, anywhere you don't have an easy means of mechanical mounting a 'sink and can accept (Or need) permanent bond. Permanent really is permanent, I've ripped 'sinks off old mobos I threw away to keep the sink and it torn the top half off the chip or pulled whole chip off the board instead of the epoxy bond breaking. BTW, that's a good thing. Do not use for very high heat density parts like flipchip mobo chipsets/video GPUs/CPUs. However I've had great results on older GPUs or those with heat spreaders integral (but part warranty is void of course).
Super Glue Times 100
- Pros: Along with some very good heat conduction, this stuff keeps heatsinks on NB/SB chipsets forever; the bond is simply that strong. I used this on my friend's motherboard (ECS NF650iSLIT-A) to put on a Cooler Master SLC-S41-U1 Fan & Heatsink.
- Cons: Sticky...and I mean STICKY. Be careful when applying this stuff. You don't want to drop it onto, say, a stick of ram. Also, the stuff smells a bit while mixing, but that's nothing one can't deal with.
- Other Thoughts: Ceramic epoxy, like it's counterpart in the thermal compound world, is better than the silver-based ones, in my opinion. Mainly because it doesn't have the chance to conduct any electricity and it offers near equal performance. Also, DON'T USE THIS STUFF ON CPUS TO APPLY A FAN & HEATSINK!!

Fanatastic
- Pros: This Thermal Paste is awsome. Much beteer than Generic paste. My Temps on CPU have gone from 43 to 33 idle. My game play has not increased the temps with this paste
- Cons: None
- Other Thoughts: I have since gone to Gelid Extreme. There is no comparison with the Gelid, which is much better paste
Works as advertised
- Pros: Used to attach heatsink to cpu after mobo hinge broke. The heatsink doesn't move an inch now and everything works fine.
- Cons: None.
- Other Thoughts: I bought this one because it's base is ceramic and does not contain silver. The other Artic Silver adhesive does. While the possibility of it being conductive is small, it still exists. Better to be safe than sorry!
Works Great
- Pros: Works just like it is supposed to. All you need to do is read the directions. A little bit goes along way!
- Cons: Works just like it is supposed to. Once it's on it won't come off.
- Other Thoughts: Read all you can before you use this product.

Arctic Alumina Adhesive uses a layered composite of aluminum oxide and boron nitride.
Arctic Alumina Adhesive is a pure electrical insulator, neither electrically conductive nor capacitive.
A set of Arctic Alumina Thermal Adhesive consists of two tubes containing a total of 5 grams of adhesive (2.5 grams each of parts A and B) and a plastic reusable mixing wand. (Approximately 3cc total adhesive.)
Although lighter per set than Arctic Silver Adhesive due to its use of ceramics rather than silver, each set of Arctic Alumina Adhesive contains the same amount of adhesive by volume as a set of Arctic Silver adhesive and will cover the same area.
CAUTION! Arctic Alumina Thermal Adhesive is a permanent adhesive. Any components you attach together with Arctic Alumina Thermal Adhesive will stay attached forever.
Arctic Alumina Thermal Adhesive should be kept cold and away from UV light (sunlight and florescent lighting). We recommend refrigerating the unused material and allowing it to come to room temperature prior to use. |
