ASUS Silent Square EVO 92mm Vapo Bearing CPU Cooler

  • 2300 ±10% RPM
  • 36.5 CFM
  • Cu. Base + Al. fins + 5 Heat Pipes
ICON Loading...

Even the latest quad-core CPU heats up while grinding through the current crop of 3D pixel-shaded environments and action-filled sequences. Able to fit onto most of the current crop of AMD and Intel processors, the Asus Silent Square Evo features five nickel-plated copper heat pipes to efficiently draw heat away from processor and up to the nickel-plated aluminum cooling fins. Mounted in two columns, the fins' waveform configuration provides optimal heat dissipation to maintain stable operation of the CPU.

Buried within the cooling fins is a 92mm 2300RPM Sunon fan riding on ultra-silent, proprietary Vapo-Bearings. At its normal speed, the Silent Square Evo only produces 22dBA of noise. And, because it's PWM compliant, the motherboard BIOS will adjust the fans' speed to match current thermal loads meaning that it will be even quieter at when the CPU isn't generating as much heat. The cooler will reduce CPU temperatures between 20-30% and the internally mounted blue LED's will give the impression of an alien power source energizing your computer.

  • newegg Effective Heat Dissipation The copper base and 5 copper heatpipes conduct heat fast and the wave-shaped high-density aluminum fins maximize heat dissipation.
  • newegg Inner Fan Technology A large 92mm cooling fan positioned inside the frame optimizes airflow for superior cooling performance. Plus the VRM shield guides cool air to critical components around the CPU for stable operation.
  • newegg Universal Socket Compatibility The ASUS Silent Square EVO features broad compatibility with AMD socket 754, 939, 940 and AM2 platforms, as well as the Intel LGA 775 platform.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very easy to install, came with everything you need to install out of the box, it looks very high quality with a nice glossy finish, runs almost silent (definitely quieter than the stock CPU fan which has a faint buzz sound), keeps my Core2Duo CPU very cool, the blue LED fan light is a nice touch. The bracket for LGA775 type is designed in such a way that it should work with any Intel CPU-based motherboard in terms of clearance for footing, using taller RAM sticks also won't be an issue.

Cons: This is more of a caution than a con, please make sure that your case has enough room to fit this in, if you have a side panel fan bigger than 80mm or a side panel tunnel vent, it may not fit. My case is a ATX mid-tower with a 80mm side panel fan which is located right at the top of this unit, and fortunately I have just about 8mm of clearance between them.

Other Thoughts: Considering the specs for my rig, I probably don't need a CPU cooler like this, but I wanted a bracket system with screws instead of the push-pin type which is a hassle to install and that's something I don't care for. I don't even understand why manufacturers even bother with the push-pin types, I guess they cost less to make? I have been using stock CPU fans which will get quite noisy over time, so one of the things I wanted in a CPU cooler was that it needs to be quiet, and this cooler is very quiet. Also, the 4-pin CPU fan connector was the clincher over a Zalman cooler which only comes in a 3-pin. I like how this cooler looks as well, it looks like a chromed hot-rod engine or something, very cool looking.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Fan Ever!!! Go ASUS!!!!!

Pros: Keeps my Core 2 Quad Q6700 very cool overclocked to 3.2GHz and temp sits at 32 deg. C idle~ 44 deg. C on full load. Nice Fan Design and Blue LEDs inside.

Cons: Good Luck fitting this thing into anything smaller than a Full Case Tower. I went with the Apevia Jupiter G Full Case Tower and barely had room to spare closing up the side panel. At least 6.5in from cpu .

Other Thoughts: Was looking for a beast and bought a monster!!!! Couldnt be any happier!! What are you waiting for......Click Add To Cart!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsLooks "Cool"

Pros: Looks awesome in the side window of my Antec 900. Keeps my cpu below 40 degrees C, which is good. I did not have to remove the side fan of my case like I read some people had to do with other coolers in the same case.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: My new build chews up everything I can throw at it. Got most of it from Newegg.

4 out of 5 eggsASUS EVO

Pros: Keeps my AMD PhenomX4(AM2+) 25 degress cooler than before. before i installed, the cpu was sitting just shy of shutdown (60C) and now idles at a nice and toasty 37C. Has plenty of clearance for ram and chipsets

Cons: Like OHMYD@MN...THIS THING IS HUGE. This is my second build and my first time replacing a heatsink. the box says it comes with install guide but non was to be found. had to take the motherboard completely out of the case to figure out how to install.

Other Thoughts: only looses a star for lack of documentation. some of us like to have the instruction manual handy just in case. other than that it work great so far...would recommend if you case will hold it. BE SURE AND MEASURE FIRST

5 out of 5 eggsnot too shabby

Pros: Mounting bar and retention clip are good. I was unhappy at first not to get the standard spring-screw-backplate combo, but this works surprisingly well, and once you install the mounting frame, it's easy to install and remove.

Cons: None so far, as I think it just needs more time to break in with the system. A little heavy, but nothing too extreme.

Other Thoughts: The cooling power on this is nice. Not the best I've ever seen, but definitely worth the $$$. I get about 29-30c idle, and about 33-35c under load at stock. I can O/C up to just about 4.2Ghz stable, idling about 35c and loading about 55-58c. So, needless to say that properly configured this cooler will work well. If you're getting high temps, either you did something wrong or the fan is dead. Speaking of which, the fan is near silent. I've had it at max rpm all day, and I haven't heard a thing. I'm a professional musician as well as a computer tech, so I'm sensitive to noises, esp. high-pitches. This is about as quiet as it gets. I'd also recommend OCZ Freeze with this, as I'm getting much better temps right off the bat, as compared to AS-5.

e7300 @ 4.2Ghz (sometimes, but usually @ 3.33ghz)
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R
OCZ Reapers DDR2 1136 @ 5-5-5-14
OCZ 700W 85% PSU

5 out of 5 eggsCool and Quiet!!

Pros: Looks Awesome! Whisper Quiet! No Exposed Spinny-parts!

Cons: Hmm.. only con i see: word "ASUS" is sideways when the cooler is mounted on mobo!

Other Thoughts: I LOVE this cooler! It's like a jewel in the box! It's huge and looks very industrial, yet very slick and clean! Super quiet, my favorite cooler!
