As CPU processing power increases, so does the need to remove the damaging heat that increased power generates. The last thing a computer enthusiast wants when designing their machine is to cap it off with an ugly cooler. The V8 RR-UV8-XBU1-GP, part of Cooler Master’s V series of CPU coolers, provides a high volume of cooling air and whisper quiet noise levels at a bargain price – and looks good doing it. A mirror-finished copper base provides optimal thermal transference from the CPU and the surplus heat flows along eight heat pipes to the aluminum cooling fins. A 120mm fan provides silent cooling while spinning on long-lasting rifle bearings.

This already low noise level can be lessened during periods of low thermal generation automatically by using the integrated PWM functionality which lets the BIOS monitor fan performance and thermal need and adjust the fan's speed accordingly. The mounting kit is designed to allow the V8 to easily attach to a wide variety of Intel LGA775/1366 processors as well as AMD CPUs using the AM2+, AM2 or 940 sockets.

  • newegg Eight Heatpipes Eight high performance heatpipes maximize heat transfer to push cooling performance to the next level.
  • newegg Mirror-finished Base A mirror-finished copper base maximizes heat absorption and transfer for excellent cooling.
  • newegg Four Sets of Aluminum Fins Four separate modular sets of aluminum fins create a large heat dissipation surface for unsurpassed cooling performance.
  • newegg Center Mounted 120mm Fan with Fan Speed Controller A 120mm 800 - 1800RPM cooling fan is mounted to the center of the Cooler Master V8 for optimum airflow. The PCI slot fan speed controller supports manual speed adjustments from 7V to 12V for the optimum balance between cooling performance and noise level.
  • newegg Core i7 Compatible Compatible with the socket LGA1366, the Cooler Master V8 supports Intel's latest-generation Core i7 processors. It also features broad compatibility with AMD socket 940, AM2, and AM2+ platforms, as well as the Intel LGA 775 platform.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU Cooler

Pros: Well priced, very quiet for an air cooler (even at maximum fan speed), easy installation

Cons: N/A

Other Thoughts: I bought this cooler to replace the stock cooler that came with my Phenom II x4 CPU. It took less than 20 minutes to install and has been serving me well for the past year or so.

3 out of 5 eggsKept temps cool but fan bearing failed

Pros: Excellent thermal properties - always keeps my overclocked i7 well below max temps. Also looks bada**.

Cons: The fan (although quiet) only has a sleeved bearing, meaning it will fail much sooner than a ball bearing fan will. Mine failed after a little over two years.

Other Thoughts: CoolerMaster refused to send me a replacement fan. I know I'm technically outside of the warranty period, but for such an expensive heatsink they could send me a $5 replacement fan.

1 out of 5 eggsFan broke after 8 months

Pros: Was working great, great temps under load.

Cons: Fan broke after 8 months. Started making chipping sound which grew louder and louder. My installation was perfect. This was clearly a manufacturing problem.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice cooler

Pros: It's absolutely huge, and worth it. Kept my CPU cool, even after overclocking it. Very quiet, even on the highest setting, and cheap vs. water cooling. That, and it looks awesome showing it off.

Cons: It's huge. I know I put it in the Pros, but it is large. Almost didn't fit in my case I got with it (which was my fault), so be careful when purchasing this fan. Other than that, nothing else wrong with it.

3 out of 5 eggsA little too big

Pros: The heat sink is very good at what it is supposed to do. Currently running this with an OC'd i5-2500k @ 3.8GHz without any issues.

Cons: I find that the sheer size of the heat sink is just a bit much. I'm using an NZXT Phantom case and I cannot put a fan on the door panel because the V8 (It freaking looks like a V8) is just so large. I feel that the mounting brackets for it feel a bit flimsy for the size and weight of the device. I would have prefered to have extra supports for it.

Other Thoughts: It comes with a dial system that you can replace a small panel in the back of your PC with that you can dial in the speed of the fans. Due to the size of the heat sink, I cannot turn it passed a certain point of out fear that it will move too much and eventually fall into the system. If you can get your hands on water cooling systems, and don't fear the chance of leakage, then by all means, upgrade to water cooling.

5 out of 5 eggsSecond Hand Performance

Pros: Good airflow and room to expand and install more than the one stock fan.

Cons: Bulky and more than a little bit of a pain to install.

Other Thoughts: I've just inherited one of these from a friend who swore it was the biggest piece of dung he'd ever owned. The fan had died on him and he was going to throw the whole thing out.
I installed a new fan and then an expansion fan and put this monster in a spare computer for testing. It runs well and performs just as well as any Noctua you could over-pay for. For air-cooling, it's pretty good stuff.

1 out of 5 eggsMissing Parts!

Pros: Looks Great

Cons: Can't install it fresh from the box.

Other Thoughts: Doesn't matter how good something looks or how great the reviews are, when the product is missing key parts to install said product to the motherboard it's rendered useless.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the trouble that you are experiencing with the V8. Please contact us via Live Chat so that we can get you a replacement accessory kit.

Respectfully,
CMUSA Support

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome!

Pros: Great temps coming from an i7 3770k at stock speeds.

Cons: This thing is huge, but fits inside my Antec 1100 with enough clearance. Also, the inner fan has red leds and it clashes with my blue setup, but that's purely aesthetic.

Other Thoughts: Looks awesome and cools my cpu enough for me!

4 out of 5 eggsLooks great, but..

Pros: Looks great
Performs well
Quiet*

Cons: *you WILL have to replace the fan
*when the fan malfunctions, it will sounds like a psu going bad.

Other Thoughts: I own 4 of these and I've had to replace all 4 fans.. not sure if it's a design flaw or just low quality fans originally installed. If I had it to do again I would have bought just one of these for my show room case.

Overall 4 stars would have been 5 if not for the fan malfunction in multiple units.
