As CPU processing power increases, so does the need to remove the damaging heat that increased power generates. The last thing a computer enthusiast wants when designing their machine is to cap it off with an ugly cooler. The V8 RR-UV8-XBU1-GP, part of Cooler Master’s V series of CPU coolers, provides a high volume of cooling air and whisper quiet noise levels at a bargain price – and looks good doing it. A mirror-finished copper base provides optimal thermal transference from the CPU and the surplus heat flows along eight heat pipes to the aluminum cooling fins. A 120mm fan provides silent cooling while spinning on long-lasting rifle bearings.

This already low noise level can be lessened during periods of low thermal generation automatically by using the integrated PWM functionality which lets the BIOS monitor fan performance and thermal need and adjust the fan's speed accordingly. The mounting kit is designed to allow the V8 to easily attach to a wide variety of Intel LGA775/1366 processors as well as AMD CPUs using the AM2+, AM2 or 940 sockets.

  • newegg Eight Heatpipes Eight high performance heatpipes maximize heat transfer to push cooling performance to the next level.
  • newegg Mirror-finished Base A mirror-finished copper base maximizes heat absorption and transfer for excellent cooling.
  • newegg Four Sets of Aluminum Fins Four separate modular sets of aluminum fins create a large heat dissipation surface for unsurpassed cooling performance.
  • newegg Center Mounted 120mm Fan with Fan Speed Controller A 120mm 800 - 1800RPM cooling fan is mounted to the center of the Cooler Master V8 for optimum airflow. The PCI slot fan speed controller supports manual speed adjustments from 7V to 12V for the optimum balance between cooling performance and noise level.
  • newegg Core i7 Compatible Compatible with the socket LGA1366, the Cooler Master V8 supports Intel's latest-generation Core i7 processors. It also features broad compatibility with AMD socket 940, AM2, and AM2+ platforms, as well as the Intel LGA 775 platform.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat cooler

Pros: Fantastic performance, keeps my overclocked FX4300 running cool. Installation fairly simple, although it helps to have someone to hold it in place while starting nuts on the retainer. Looks cool with the red LED.

Cons: It is LARGE, be sure to check that you have the necessary clearance in your case before you order.

Other Thoughts: Keeps my AMD FX4300 (OC'ed from 3800 to 4200) running at 24c idle and 49c full load (2 hours of prime95). Instructions aren't the greatest, but is an easy installation. Used arctic silver 5 instead of the included thermal paste. My setup: cooler master HAF 922 case, raidmax 730 watt P/S, asrock 990FX extreme3 MB, AMD FX4300 CPU, 2 x Asus GTX550 ti video in SLI, mushkin 60 Gb ssd system drive, WD 500 Gb data drive, dual layer DVD rw drive.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Cooling, Long-Term Requires Maintenance

Pros: - Appearance
- Thermal Regulation

Cons: - Long-term maintenance:
I've had this since 2009 and after two years the fan stopped spinning. At the time I didn't have the hex screwdriver to open the heatsink nor a dust blower to clear out any clogging dust. After a few months I used a dust blower and cleared out more dust by opening the heatsink. Back to normal now.
- Large size:
I paired this up with an older (2008) Thermaltake Armor and the fan would push out at my 200mm side fan. I was not comfortable with the centimeters of tension and flex so I mounted my 200mm fan outside the side pane. All is well.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Cooler

Pros: This is an awesome cooler that I highly recommend if your case has the space. It keeps my Phenom II X4 965 @ 4.2 GHZ 31 degrees idle,42 degrees full load

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: My Gigabyte Sumo case had just enough clearance to put the side panel back on,so yes it does take up space, but is an awesome cooler

1 out of 5 eggsCooler Master Fail

Pros: Looks Cool

Cons: Fan broke after a few months. I have attempted to contact Cooler Master several time by email. I received automated confirmations but no human responses after 3 attempts and several weeks of waiting. Don't believe these manufacturer responses promising help - they will not help you!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We are sorry to hear about the trouble you are having with the V8 Cooler. If you wish to contact us, please do so through live chat below. If you're having trouble with the fan please request replacement for it via the parts request link below.

5 out of 5 eggsMassive

Pros: - Perfect Cooling
- Does not interfere with large RAM sticks
- Beautiful appearance and internal lighting (Red LED)

Cons: - Very large (tall). Will not fit in smaller cases.
- Terrible Instructions.

Other Thoughts: This heatsink is BEAST. Pictures do not do it justice. The internally mounted fan is ingenious and keeps the overall V-shape of the entire cooler. I was worried about tall RAM sticks but not an issue at all. Instuctions are lacking but I installed a similar Cooler Master on a friend's computer so it wasn't too bad. There is a single Red LED on the internal fan so a nice red glow emanates from under the V8 logo.

I was shocked how good the quality of this cooler is for the price. Must buy for any air cooled system.

CPU @ Idle: 28C
CPU @ Load: 32C
(lol)

This cooler is overkill for stock clock/voltages of an i7-3770, but I definitely have head room to overclock all day!

5 out of 5 eggsHuge Beast of a Cooler!

Pros: Works Well! Temps haven't gone above 38C at full load.

Cons: None, if you have a full tower or a large Mid tower.

Other Thoughts: Easy to install, but you'll probably need an extra helper to tighten screws onto the back plate while you hold the cooler in place. My wife helped so no big deal.

2 out of 5 eggsBe Careful!!

Pros: When it works, it cools the CPU.

Cons: The fans used in these units WILL fail - count on it. I've gotten from 1 to 1 1/2 years before they s-l-o-w down and eventually stop. The first fan was covered under warranty. After that, you're on your own.

If you read specs that indicate their fans are rated at 40,000 hours, know that this number is DRAMATICALLY overrated. In actual use, easily expect less than 1/4 that.

If you question the manufacturer on this, they will blame "dust". Thing is, every other fan in my case is original and running just fine under the very same conditions (and I do keep my PC clean anyway). Only THEIR fans have such a short life.

Keep these points in mind if/before you purchase...and be ready to tear part your PC to change out the dead fan in a bit over a year. "Fun" project, by the way.

You may want to buy a 120mm replacement fan now so you have it when you need it. Look for a good quality ball bearing fan made by someone other than Cooler Master...

5 out of 5 eggsLove this thing

Pros: I love having a Huge heat sink + fan on my computer. I don't have central air, and live in the midwest where 90-100 degrees with 100% humidity can happen. This thing keeps up with it, and the large fan keeps the noise tolerable.

Cons: It's really big, and figuring out how to mount it was a bit.

Other Thoughts: Make sure your case has room to accommodate it. I'm inclined to use another on my next build

3 out of 5 eggsEh..

Pros: Keeps the CPU Cool, and is very innovative. It also looks great on any motherboard.

Cons: The Fan is way too big for my tower; The side panel barely closes. Its a little tricky to install, and if you want to plug something in around it, you better do it before you put it on your CPU. Couldn't they make it a LITTLE bit smaller?

Other Thoughts: Because Its so Bulky, I wouldn't reccomend this.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We are sorry to hear about the trouble you had installing the V8 Cooler. We recommend that customers check the maximum heatsink dimensions with the computer case manufacture before purchasing. For your reference the height of the V8 is 158mm. Please contact us if you need any further assistance in selecting a correct cooler for your application.
