5 out of 5 eggsGood cooling performance for cheap

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper TX3 - CPU Cooler with 3 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: Good performance for the price.

My i5 3470 passed from 70C-80C while gaming with recent demanding games on the stock cooler to the 50's range with this cooler. The highest temp I managed to catch with HWmonitor and the MSI Afterburner timeline chart was a sole peak of 62C on Star Citizen that rised from 57C and then stabilized to 58C.

You can use whatever 92mm fan you want and it also gives the possibility of push/pull configuration.

Cons: For the price this may not be a con but I'm gonna put it here as a warning anyways, it can only take slight OC, like taking my non K i5 to it's max turbo boost speed, so 3.2GHZ to 3.6Ghz. Didn't test for long but temps seemed to stay on high 50's to lower 60's while gaming.

Optional Push/Pull configuration doesn't really seem to help CPU temps maybe 1C or 2C at most.

Other Thoughts: Push/Pull configuration seems to help general airflow a little bit. RAM and some MOBO sensors seemed to be around 5C cooler than usual.

You may want to apply a little more thermal paste than usual since this is the classic direct contact heat pipe design that has creases that somewhat prevent the thermal paste from spreading normally.

5 out of 5 eggsHyper TX3

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper TX3 - CPU Cooler with 3 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: The TX3 is an outstanding heatsink/fan air-cooling option for those who want better cooling than stock units but cannot fit a larger unit such as Hyper 212 series.

Cons: None come to mind.

Other Thoughts: The TX3 uses the same connector retention mechanism as stock Intel coolers do, so you need ot be careful not to bend the plastic pods. I has used two of these TX3's on Intel systems in the last few years as the mini-ITX cases did not have clearance for the taller Hyper 212's.

3 out of 5 eggsDifficult installation

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper TX3 - CPU Cooler with 3 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: I got this to replace a fan on an old AM2 board I'm still using for one of my kids' computers (yes, it's about time for an upgrade). The fan assembly itself feels solid, although a bit large, but the installation kit is very flimsy and doesn't seem to fit properly over the CPU, leaving about 1/4" of the CPU surface exposed to the air. I'm hopeful this won't be a problem.

Cons: The "one size fits most" installation kit - for the AM2 board - consists of a sort of rocker bar that feeds through the base of the cooler, and a latch that just sits loosely over the end of the bar until it is secured onto the motherboard. The problem is that with the motherboard already mounted into the case you can't see what you're doing because of the size of the fan itself, so you have to work by feel. I kept knocking the latch off of the end of the bar and having to start over. By the time I was finished I had so much thermal paste on me I looked like the Tin Woodsman from "Wizard of Oz".

Other Thoughts: This would, of course, have been easier to do if the motherboard was outside of the case. I really didn't want to disassemble the entire computer just to replace a fan, and I don't feel I should have had to.

-2 eggs for the badly designed installation kit.

2 out of 5 eggsSpend more, get a better CPU cooler

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper TX3 - CPU Cooler with 3 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: Cools well enough
Incredibly cheap

Cons: Quite a hassle to install

Other Thoughts: I will have to see how it does after OC but as of now it cools well enough. Incredibly painful installation process. Make sure you test that it is fully secured. Gave two eggs mostly for the price.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper TX3 - CPU Cooler with 3 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: This cooler is quite the machine. Easy installation, fits perfectly in an Asus Micro ATX build in quite a small case.
Performance is better than expected and dropped temperatures to below 20°C idling, around 35°C to 45°C when heavily processing.
PWM is very responsive and completely silences the fan when not needed. Very neat feature.
Fan is extremely quiet. I can hear the hard drive over the cooler.
Construction is very sturdy, no complaints here.
Thermal paste provided is more than efficient for AMD Phenom Quad 9550.

Cons: Honestly, none. This is the product I was hoping for, and more.

Other Thoughts: Do the obvious thing and pay attention to the cooler size. Grab a measuring tape and check the dimensions to make sure it's going to fit. Use common sense. It's literally plug and play.

Asus Micro ATX motherboard with AMD Phenom 9550 Quad Core built for HTPC.

5 out of 5 eggsCool Master never disappoints.

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper TX3 - CPU Cooler with 3 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: What's not to love about the TX3? Simple instructions, Easy Installation, and loves the heat from Overclocking:)

I have this on my Old Asus board from about five years ago. I OC'ed the board to the max setting and it still blows out cold air from the ventilation holes!

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: Certain other Manufacturers who make CPU fans and heatsinks need to look at the clamps on these and take note....

4 out of 5 eggsGreat design, perfect size for my case, but the fan died....

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper TX3 - CPU Cooler with 3 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: First off, 4 eggs alone just for Newegg getting my CPU cooler to me the day after I ordered! Awesome!
Very excited to complete my build last night since this was the final component. Powered up my box for the first time and the CPU fan stopped spinning seconds later. I assumed the CPU Fan slot on the motherboard was DOA but luckily I had an extra 92mm fan to test it. The mobo CPU fan slot was fine and it turns out the original fan on the TX3 went bad. So now Im running an old cpu fan with an entirely new system. Cooler Master makes great products and I've been a fan of them since I started building my own PC. It's just luck of the draw.
Decided not to RMA the heatsink and fan since its already installed and it would be more trouble than its worth. Still giving high ratings since its very rare something from Newegg or Cooler Master is defective.

Cons: Fan only worked for a few seconds.

Other Thoughts: Great design and look! Fits perfectly on an FX AM3+ processor in a NZXT CA-PH240-W1 case.

5 out of 5 eggsBest CPU cooler for the price

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper TX3 - CPU Cooler with 3 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: low profile, much better than the AMD heat sink that comes the CPU.

Cons: fan can only face up or down on AM3.

Other Thoughts: This CPU cooler was used in an old Alienware case which was overheating the CPU to the point of shutting down. Installed the TX3 and have not had any overheating issues since. Motherboard runs 20+ degrees cooler.

5 out of 5 eggsAn absolute must.

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper TX3 - CPU Cooler with 3 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: Replacing the stock cooler with one of these is absolutely required if you've spent a considerable amount of money on a CPU, even if running at stock speeds. Your idle temperatures drop by 10-20%, and suddenly a Prime95 heat test doesn't cause your CPU to throttle down. It's incredibly cheap, can easily fit a second fan for push/pull, and will fit in most cases (including my Thermaltake Core V1 mini-ITX case. Also, the absence of a backplate is a huge plus, as you don't need to remove your motherboard to install it.

Cons: Might not cooperate with high-profile RAM if your DIMM slots are too close to the CPU, but that's true for the majority of air coolers.

Other Thoughts: This is not meant to be a high-end cooling solution for extreme overclocking. It's meant to be a low-cost upgrade to a box cooler that should allow for some minor overclocking, or always-on turbo for H-series motherboards.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking nice and cool

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper TX3 - CPU Cooler with 3 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: Quiet, great job cooling. My Hydro cooler's pump went out and i was idling at 70 degrees on my AMD 965 Phenom black. Now that i have installed this cooler i am idling around 30-36 degrees. Much better.

Cons: Install instructions stink! Use good lighting.
